Chapter 59 I'll Beat You to Death

Pei Xi jogged back to the classroom.

She sat down in her seat, and Shen Miaoyi turned to look at her, scrutinizing her for a few seconds before asking, "What's making you so happy?"

Pei Xi was taken aback, only then realizing that he had been unconsciously smiling the whole time.

She blushed slightly, cupped her face in her hands, and whispered, "No, it's just... I'm inexplicably in a good mood."

The moment she saw Jiang Cheng, her subconscious reaction was one of surprise and delight, more so than shock.

She didn't expect him to be able to go back to school so soon.

Pei Xi leaned close to Shen Miaoyi's ear, lowered his voice, and said mysteriously, "Miaomiao, I have a question for you."

Shen Miaoyi was taken aback by her mysterious appearance, and then she shrank her neck in a very cooperative manner, like a little hamster with a strong sense of stealth, and said in a voice that was almost a whisper: "Pei Xi, you say it."

Pei Xi hesitated for a moment, then carefully chose his words: "I mean... is there someone you always want to see, and when you see him, you feel happy and at ease?"

Shen Miaoyi nodded without hesitation, "Yes."

Pei Xi opened his eyes in surprise and asked her, "Who is it?"

“You,” Shen Miaoyi said, looking at her.

Pei Xi was taken aback, but seeing Shen Miaoyi's serious expression, he burst out laughing.

Miaomiao is so innocent, what was she thinking just now?

Seeing that Pei Xi remained silent, Shen Miaoyi hesitated before asking, "Why are you asking this?"

Looking into her innocent eyes, Pei Xi suddenly felt like she was corrupting a child. She replied vaguely, "Nothing... I was just asking."

Shen Miaoyi simply said "Oh," without suspecting anything. Pei Xi suddenly remembered something and asked, "By the way, won't the final selection for the school anniversary programs be held in a few days?"

Shen Miaoyi nodded, "There are four people in our singing group: one boy, one girl, me, and Sun Yufei."

After saying that, she lowered her eyes, seemingly somewhat disappointed, "But the three of us are probably just going through the motions, we definitely can't compare to Sun Yufei."

“That’s not necessarily true,” Pei Xi immediately retorted. “Sun Yufei sang quite well, but I think you’re no worse than her.”

“If it were a selection based on ability, she might not be able to eliminate you.” Pei Xi patted Shen Miaoyi on the shoulder and smiled. “You need to have confidence in yourself.”

Shen Miaoyi looked at Pei Xi and then nodded.

Strangely enough, Pei Xi's encouragement seemed to have a magical power; every time she finished speaking to her, she would immediately become full of confidence.

She felt that Pei Xi must have some kind of superpower.

Shen Miaoyi pursed her lips and asked Pei Xi softly, "After school, could you help me choose a song?"

“Of course you can.” Pei Xi nodded, touching her chin as if she was thinking about something, looking very serious. “Choosing a song is the most important thing. In a competition, having a good song choice is already half the battle won.”

"Okay." Shen Miaoyi squeezed Pei Xi's hand. "When we get back, take a good look at it for me. I trust your judgment."

Pei Xi smiled and said, "No problem, I will definitely give you my advice."

-

After school ended in the afternoon and everyone else had left, Pei Xi remained alone in the classroom.

The classroom is usually bustling with people, making it inconvenient to draw on the bulletin board, so Pei Xi always stays after school to draw it.

Pei Zhi waited for her to go home together. She was bored in the classroom, so she went to the basketball court with Shi Chen to play basketball.

She'll go to the basketball court to find them when she's almost finished drawing.

This school anniversary celebration was extraordinary after all. Pei Xi had been thinking about it for a long time before slowly picking up the white chalk and starting to draw an outline.

Having learned from her previous experience, she shook the stool beforehand to make sure it was secure before stepping on it.

Pei Xi focused on drawing for a while. In the classroom, the light of the setting sun gradually shifted, and she didn't know how much time had passed.

As autumn deepens, the days seem to grow shorter, and the classroom is bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun.

The air was filled with a tranquil atmosphere, with only the scratching sound of chalk on the blackboard.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed down the corridor.

Pei Xi paused, glancing subconsciously out the window. He only caught a glimpse of a figure from behind, tall and slender with jet-black hair at the back of his head.

Pei Zhi probably finished playing ball early.

Pei Xi withdrew her gaze and continued to focus on the drawing on the blackboard. She heard the footsteps in the corridor stop, stopping at the doorway behind her.

While drawing, Pei Xi spoke without turning her head: "Is today over so quickly? Could you bring me the rag from the lectern table?"

Upon hearing this, the person behind seemed to move slightly.

Then his footsteps echoed in the quiet room.

When he heard him walk up behind him, Pei Xi looked up from the painting and saw a neatly folded rag being held up.

She smiled, reached down to take it, and said softly, "Thank you, brother..."

The moment his fingers touched the rag, Pei Xi froze.

Yu Guangli's eyes did not see Pei Zhi's face.

It was another face she recognized.

Jiang Cheng looked up at her, a faint smile in his dark eyes.

"You're welcome," he said softly, lowering his hand.

Pei Xi squeezed the rag in his hand, feeling a warmth on his ear.

"...It's you?" She was a little flustered and gave an awkward laugh. "I thought it was Pei Zhi."

Jiang Cheng stood casually with one hand on the table, looking up at the drawing on the blackboard, and suddenly said, "It's very well drawn."
