Pei Xi was a little embarrassed, "The draft isn't even half finished, how can you tell if it looks good or not?"
Jiang Cheng raised an eyebrow slightly, seemingly disagreeing with her words.
But he still didn't say anything.
Pei Xi stood on the chair, looking down at him. The setting sun shone on him, casting a halo around him and softening his features.
His posture was somewhat languid, unlike his usual cold and sharp demeanor, and surprisingly, it was inexplicably handsome.
Pei Xi's heart skipped a beat, and he jumped off the chair.
She stood in front of Jiang Cheng, then suddenly moved closer to him, looking up at his eyelashes that cast shadows in the sunlight.
Jiang Cheng was taken aback by her sudden approach and subconsciously held his breath.
"Don't move," Pei Xi said softly, as if trying to bewitch people. "I'm conducting a test."
Her warm breath brushed against his neck.
Jiang Cheng's eyelashes trembled uncontrollably.
The two were so close that their breaths mingled.
Pei Xi's amber eyes appeared even clearer in the light, reflecting Jiang Cheng's beautiful image.
thump.
thump.
thump.
A heartbeat is an instinctive reaction; it never lies.
Pei Xi felt his heart pounding.
She was certain that she might actually have a little bit of a crush on Jiang Cheng.
No, not that little bit.
There seem to be quite a lot.
Just when Jiang Cheng was about to give up, Pei Xi suddenly took a step back, putting distance between them.
Jiang Cheng's Adam's apple bobbed twice, and his clenched fist loosened.
"Okay, I'm done testing."
Pei Xi said softly.
Jiang Cheng desperately tried to control his voice, making sure it didn't sound trembling, "What test?"
"I won't tell you yet." Pei Xi looked at him, her eyes flashing.
She said, "Anyway, from now on at school, don't pretend you don't know me, and don't fail to greet me, okay?"
Jiang Cheng looked at her, remained silent for two seconds, and then said "Mmm" in a deep voice.
He looked at Pei Xi's hair; it was very black and soft, and there was a faint fragrance about it when she came close earlier.
He desperately tried to restrain himself from reaching out to touch it.
Jiang Cheng looked away, concealing the panic in his eyes, and whispered to Pei Xi, "I'm leaving now."
Upon hearing Pei Xi's response, he immediately lifted his foot and fled the classroom as if escaping.
Reaching the top of the stairs in the corridor, Jiang Cheng's stiff muscles finally relaxed, and he took a deep breath.
He rubbed his fingertips together vigorously, took a step, but suddenly someone came out from around the corner and blocked Jiang Cheng's path.
The newcomer's peach blossom eyes were filled with a smile, "You're out so soon? I didn't dare go in and disturb you just now."
Jiang Cheng was taken aback, his eyes darkened, and a coldness gathered in them.
Shi Chen keenly noticed the change in his gaze, raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Don't worry, I'm not one to meddle in other people's business. I won't say a word about things that aren't my concern."
He came back to get his schoolbag and asked Pei Xi when he would finish, but he happened to witness something he shouldn't have seen.
Perhaps this is a kind of luck.
Shi Chen sighed inwardly, took a step forward, then hesitated, a mixture of schadenfreude and earnestness in his voice, "Um, don't think I'm being nosy..."
He lowered his voice and said in a volume that only the two of them could hear, "If Pei Zhi knew you were getting so close to her, he would beat you to death."
Jiang Cheng paused.
A moment later, however, he curled the corners of his lips into a smile.
"Even if you kill me," he said calmly, "it's worth it."
