Pei Xi lay there lost in thought, his temples damp with tears.
In the quiet, dimly lit room, only the choked sobs escaping her throat could be heard.
The suffocating feeling in her chest was still extremely strong, tightly enveloping every nerve in her body.
It felt like a huge rock was pressing on my chest, making it difficult to breathe, and every time I swallowed, it brought a sharp pain.
Pei Xi practically woke up by crying.
The suffocating pain in my dream felt so real.
She raised her hand to wipe away the tears on her face, sat up in bed, and held her forehead, feeling as if needles were pricking her brain.
Pei Xi held his head and rested for a while before slowly leaning against the soft headboard.
She looked out the window; dawn had not yet broken, the sky was a pale gray, and everything was eerily quiet.
She glanced at the wall clock; the hands pointed exactly to four in the morning.
Most of the people in this city are still asleep.
Pei Xi was wide awake. Her eyes were burning from the tears. She picked up a small mirror from the bedside table and saw that her skin was flushed and her eyelids were swollen.
Pei Xi frowned, thinking that the frown would probably disappear by breakfast time and Pei Zhi wouldn't notice.
She put down the mirror, pulled the blanket up, and wrapped herself in the soft fabric to feel a sense of security.
The scenes from my dream kept replaying uncontrollably in my mind: the bedside in the villa, downstairs in the apartment, on the bridge engulfed in flames...
Just thinking about it makes my heart throb with pain.
Pei Xi instinctively covered his chest.
Those scenes were so vivid, as if they had actually happened. She even remembers to this day the scent of Jiang Cheng's sleeve in her dream was the cool, crisp smell of cedar.
Her chest heaved as she took a very deep and long breath.
Reason told her once again that this was just a dream.
But something in her mind had overridden her reason; a strange impulse told her that the things in her dream were real.
Choosing to escape is tantamount to deceiving oneself.
There are no coincidences in the world that happen repeatedly.
Last time it was the scar on Jiang Cheng's hand and his mother's face, so what is it this time?
A sentence suddenly popped into Pei Xi's mind.
[Xixi...I'm sorry, I can't hear with this ear.]
Pei Xi's heart suddenly clenched.
In the dream, Jiang Cheng said that he couldn't hear with his left ear.
Pei Xi felt as if an invisible hand had suddenly gripped his heart, and goosebumps instantly rose on his arms.
If this is true...
So what should she do?
-
At 1:10 PM, at the entrance of the movie theater.
Pei Xi got out of the taxi more than twenty minutes earlier than the agreed time.
She hadn't slept since being startled awake by a dream at four in the morning. Her mind was in turmoil all morning. After lunch, she changed her clothes and planned to come to the movie theater early to wait for Jiang Cheng.
It also gives me more time to prepare myself mentally.
She was unwilling to deceive herself and simply let those dreams pass by.
She wants to verify it.
Pei Xi took a deep breath, and as soon as he took a step, he looked up and was surprised to see a familiar figure.
Jiang Cheng stood by the wall outside the door, his posture somewhat casual and relaxed, looking down at his phone. From the side, the curves of his jaw and nose were unbelievably perfect.
Pei Xi paused in his steps.
He had actually arrived long ago.
Then, as if he had a premonition, Jiang Cheng suddenly raised his head and looked in her direction.
Pei Xi unconsciously clenched his hands at his sides, a strange emotion rising in his heart.
That question resurfaced in her mind.
What should she do if the things in her dream really happen...?
While she was still in a daze, Jiang Cheng strode over and stood in front of her.
"Why are you here so early?" He looked down at Pei Xi, a hint of surprise in his eyes.
Pei Xi collected her chaotic thoughts, paused for a moment, and then asked him with a slight smile, "And you, why did you come so early?"
Jiang Cheng was taken aback, then said in a low voice, "I was afraid you would arrive early and I didn't want to keep you waiting."
After saying that, he let out a barely perceptible sigh of relief.
Fortunately, he arrived early.
Otherwise, Pei Xi would have to wait for him.
Upon hearing this, Pei Xi's eyes flickered, and a surge of heat rose in his chest.
"There are still twenty minutes before we can check in. Let's go inside and wait," she said.
Jiang Cheng gave a soft "hmm" and walked into the cinema side by side with her.
The cinema was large, and since it was the weekend, there were quite a few people in the lobby. The two found a quiet spot to sit down, and a young couple sat down right next to them.
He looks very young; he's probably still a student.
The young couple whispered a few words to each other, then the boy got up and walked towards the counter. A short while later, he came back carrying a bucket of popcorn and two cups of cola.
Jiang Cheng glanced at it, paused for a moment, and then asked Pei Xi, "Do you want popcorn and cola?"
Pei Xi didn't really want to eat it, but when she heard him ask, she nodded absentmindedly.
By the time he realized what was happening, Jiang Cheng had already left his seat and walked towards the counter where the goods were being sold.
Watching Jiang Cheng's retreating figure, she gripped her phone tightly in her hand, leaving dents in her palm.
Soon, Jiang Cheng returned with popcorn and cola.
He placed both items in front of Pei Xi and said softly, "You eat."
Pei Xi smiled slightly, then reached out and took a kernel of popcorn, putting it in his mouth.
