Pei Xi immediately interrupted him: "Brother, you really don't need to. My friend will take me home, don't worry."
As she finished speaking, she noticed out of the corner of her eye that Jiang Cheng paused in his eating of cake.
Then Pei Zhi's voice came from beside her: "Well, your friend is quite considerate. Okay, I'm relieved that someone brought you back."
Pei Xi hummed in agreement, and Pei Zhi reminded him to be careful before hanging up.
Pei Xi awkwardly put her phone back in her bag, then said to Jiang Cheng, "Um...did you hear me? I have to go back now."
"Okay." Jiang Cheng immediately stood up. "Let's go."
Pei Xi was taken aback for a moment, then looked up and saw the smile in Jiang Cheng's eyes.
Recalling her words to Pei Zhi earlier, she felt a flush rise to her ears.
"I'll see you off," Jiang Cheng said softly. "I won't see you to the door. Don't worry, you won't run into Pei Zhi."
Pei Xi was taken aback, and suddenly felt inexplicably sad.
He knew that Pei Zhi didn't like him getting close to her.
He didn't want to put her in a difficult position.
Pei Xi took a breath, looked at him and nodded, then said softly, "Okay."
Upon hearing this, a faint smile immediately appeared in Jiang Cheng's eyes.
The two walked out of the alley, hailed a taxi, and when they were still a little distance from the entrance of the residential area, Jiang Cheng stopped the car, and the two got out.
He stood under a street lamp by the roadside and said gently to Pei Xi, "You go over there yourself, I'll watch you from here."
Pei Xi nodded and waved to him, "Then I'll go back first."
After taking two steps, she suddenly turned her head and looked at Jiang Cheng.
He stood bathed in light, his features clear and handsome, his figure tall and straight like a bamboo shoot.
Pei Xi blinked and said, "Oh right, I think I forgot something today."
Jiang Cheng was taken aback. "What?"
I forgot to send you my birthday wishes.
Pei Xi suddenly took two steps closer to him, looked up at him, and said with a smile, "Happy birthday, Jiang Cheng."
