Chapter 71 A Toad Wants to Eat Swan Meat

The next morning.

Before Pei Xi even entered the classroom, he heard a commotion coming from inside.

It seemed even more lively than usual.

She walked into the house as usual with her schoolbag on her back, but the noise suddenly stopped the moment she stepped through the door.

The boys who were making the most noise suddenly stopped talking.

It was a group of people led by Chen Minliang.

Pei Xi walked to her seat, and several people couldn't help but glance at her, their eyes both evasive and excited.

She frowned, feeling inexplicably uneasy.

She sat in her seat as usual, tidied her schoolbag, took out the books she would need later, and placed them on the table.

A rustling sound rang out in the classroom again, not as loud as before, as if everyone was whispering to each other.

Pei Xi, caught off guard, overheard words like "joke," "overestimating oneself," and "clown."

She shook her head listlessly, knowing immediately who they were talking about behind her back.

She wasn't interested in this kind of gossip at all.

The morning reading session was an English class. Pei Xi turned to the vocabulary list in her English book and looked at the words for a while. She had only read half of them when the noise in the classroom suddenly stopped.

The stop was sudden, and it was utterly silent.

Pei Xi subconsciously looked up, and a person walked in through the door—it was Li Yiming.

The boys who had been making the most noise earlier were all looking up at him from their seats, their eyes filled with obvious mockery and ridicule.

In short, it was very ill-intentioned.

Pei Xi frowned. She was 80% sure that the person they had just framed was Li Yiming.

However, Li Yiming is a gentle person who usually grants these people's requests and lends them his homework to copy every day. What do they have to make up about?

Just then, Li Yiming walked over and sat down next to her.

Pei Xi shook her head, ignoring them and focusing her attention on the words in front of her.

The sound of Li Yiming packing his schoolbag reached Pei Xi's ears. Pei Xi glanced at him, but he seemed unaware that anything was amiss and remained composed.

A buzzing sound like flies arose around her again. Pei Xi frowned, sensing that many eyes were being cast in her direction.

It inexplicably made her feel a little annoyed.

After a while, a pen tip gently poked her arm.

Pei Xi turned his head and saw Li Yiming with his head down, his eyes hidden behind his glasses. His voice was very low, almost as soft as a mosquito's buzz: "Pei Xi, did you...did you see...what I gave you?"

"Huh?" Pei Xi was taken aback.

Li Yiming visibly froze for a moment, then lowered his voice even further: "You...you didn't see it?"

Pei Xi frowned, then shook his head, looking completely bewildered. "What is that?"

Li Yiming frowned, a strange emotion flashing in his eyes, as if he had frozen.

After a few seconds, he shook his head, his expression bitter and evasive, and said in a low voice, "No...it's nothing."

After saying that, he immediately turned around, took out his English book, and began to memorize vocabulary.

Pei Xi glanced at him, her expression momentarily stunned.

What is it?

She really didn't see anything.

However, seeing that Li Yiming didn't want to talk about it anymore, Pei Xi didn't press the matter further.

It's probably not that important.

...

The last class in the afternoon is physical education.

Their physical education classes have always been perfunctory.

Generally, the first half of the class is a warm-up session where the teacher teaches casually, and then everyone is dismissed. The second half of the class is free for everyone to do as they please.

After the group disbanded, Pei Xi and Shen Miaoyi went to a small supermarket together.

At this time, most of the people who come to the small supermarket are students who are having physical education class, and more than half of them are classmates from Class 1.

Pei Xi bent over to select milk from the lower shelf, and vaguely heard several familiar voices.

It seems to be Chen Minliang and his friends who were making a ruckus in the classroom this morning.

"This is hilarious! If you ask me, we should just bring Pei Xi in and show her. I bet she'd be horrified, like she'd swallowed a fly..."

"Was that really written by him? Or is it just a prank?"

"That's easy, we'll just trick him a bit later."

“That makes sense. I’ve made my choice, Brother Chen. Let’s go pay the bill, it’s on you.”

"You should treat me, kid. Without me, you wouldn't have gotten such a big piece of gossip."

"Absolutely..."

The voices of the group gradually faded into the distance. Pei Xi stood behind the shelf, watching their backs, his brow furrowing slightly.

She was several shelves away and couldn't hear very clearly, but she felt as if she vaguely heard her own name.

Pei Xi suddenly felt a bad feeling.

She always felt it wasn't a good thing.

For some reason, I felt a little uneasy.

...

Outside, in a corner of the playground.

Li Yiming was sitting in the stands next to the track, engrossed in reading the English vocabulary book he carried with him.

He adjusted his glasses and silently recited a few long and difficult words when he suddenly heard footsteps in front of him.

Then a shadow fell on the vocabulary book.

Li Yiming looked up at the people who had come in. "Chen Minliang, what's the matter?"

"Nothing special," Chen Minliang smiled. "I just have a question I'd like to ask the class representative."

Li Yiming paused for a moment, then nodded. "Go ahead."

Chen Minliang took out his phone from his pocket with a half-smile.

Although the school doesn't allow cell phones, it's not uncommon for some people to dare to disregard the rules.

So Li Yiming wasn't surprised.
