Pei Zhi's expression was truly terrifying, as if he could grab someone by the collar and throw them out at any moment.
The boy shrank back in fright at the sudden turn of events, his previous arrogance vanished, and he opened his mouth but couldn't utter a single syllable.
The commotion drew everyone's attention, and all eyes turned to look.
Even the people in the corridor stopped and stood outside, craning their necks to look into the classroom through the windows.
Seeing that he didn't speak, Pei Zhi chuckled and said, "I'm asking you, what did you just say? Say it again."
The boy swallowed hard, stammering, "N-nothing."
He was much shorter than Pei Zhi, and was being carried in his hand like a little chick, with a layer of sweat already on his forehead.
Pei Zhi looked at his spineless appearance, glanced down at him with a mocking look in his eyes, "What are you afraid of? Weren't you just speaking so confidently? Say it to me."
The boy struggled to speak: "I...I really didn't say anything..."
Upon hearing this, Pei Zhi raised an eyebrow dismissively. "Oh, you chickened out."
After saying that, he suddenly released the boy's collar, causing him to stumble and almost fall to the ground.
The boy finally managed to steady himself when he heard Pei Zhi say in a cold voice, "If I ever hear you gossiping behind my back again, I promise I'll beat you to death, you understand?"
After he finished speaking, he looked around.
The group of people who had been chatting so enthusiastically with the boy all fell silent, and not one of them spoke again.
Everyone stared at Pei Zhi in shock.
Pei Zhi had always given people a sunny and kind impression, and they had never seen him so cold and ruthless before.
Anyone could tell that what he just said was not a joke.
If they dare to say another bad word about Pei Xi, he really will beat them to death.
"Oh, right." Pei Zhi looked at the boy from before, as if suddenly remembering something, raised an eyebrow and said in a low voice, "Apologize."
The boy was taken aback. Pei Zhi raised his chin and pointed to Shen Miaoyi standing to the side.
He scoffed, his disdain undisguised. "You dare to lay a hand on a girl? Are you even human?"
The boy pursed his lips, looked at Shen Miaoyi, and stammered, "I...I'm sorry."
Pei Zhi frowned and clicked his tongue. "Didn't you eat?"
The boy closed his eyes tightly and said in a loud voice, "I'm sorry!"
Pei Zhi nodded in satisfaction and gave a cool smile. "Yes, we won't forgive you."
-
The corridor, outside the hot water room.
After Pei Xi finished filling the hot water cup and tightened the lid, he stepped outside and ran into someone.
She opened her eyes in surprise and saw Jiang Cheng frowning, his chest rising and falling slightly, as if he had walked in a hurry.
The moment he saw her, he seemed to relax his shoulders and strode over to her.
Are you alright?
The first sentence I uttered just came out of nowhere.
He had a furrowed brow and his voice was somewhat deep.
Pei Xi smiled, seemingly puzzled, "What could be wrong with me?"
After saying that, she smiled nonchalantly, her tone as relaxed as if she were talking about someone else, and half-jokingly asked, "Has this news even reached you guys?"
Jiang Cheng remained silent, only staring intently at her.
After a few seconds of silent eye contact, Pei Xi lowered his eyes slightly and smiled in a conciliatory manner, saying, "I'm really fine."
She blinked her long eyelashes slightly, "Really."
Let others say what they want; she can't stop them from talking.
She doesn't care what others say.
To be honest, she should have been angry, but she didn't actually feel very angry.
For her, it's less about anger or sadness, and more about surprise and regret.
For the first time, she felt so directly how complex and unpredictable the human heart truly is.
The victim who evokes sympathy may suddenly become the perpetrator in the next second.
Pei Xi found it ridiculous.
Jiang Cheng looked into her eyes, which were deep and unfathomable, as if he was desperately searching for any trace of her feigned strength.
Her eyes are so clear; if there were, she would surely find them.
After a long while, he let out a barely perceptible sigh of relief.
He asked in a low voice, "Do you know who it is?"
Pei Xi paused for a moment.
After a couple of seconds, she shrugged and nodded, saying, "I guess so."
When Li Yiming helped her polish the draft, he took away her handwritten first draft. He was very enthusiastic, so she did not refuse.
Later, he converted the revised manuscript into an electronic version and sent it to her via his mobile phone.
Pei Xi remembers being flattered at the time and thanking him several times.
Thinking of this, she suppressed her smile and took a deep breath.
"Who is it?" Jiang Cheng asked coldly.
Pei Xi paused for a moment, then softly uttered a name.
“I’m just guessing, after all, only he has this ‘evidence’ to report me.” She frowned.
Jiang Cheng remained silent for a few seconds, his eyes filled with a chilling coldness.
Then he nodded, his deep voice suppressing the storm: "Okay, I understand."
