Chapter 76 I'm different from you, you good-for-nothing

Pei Xi blinked, forcing back the heat in his eyes.

She shook her head at Pei Ruoyun's concerned gaze, "I don't feel wronged at all now, really."

Pei Ruoyun looked into her amber eyes, a look of realization flashing across her face.

Pei Xi really does look a lot like her father.

Especially those eyes.

Clear, bright, and free from impurities.

He makes people unconsciously want to protect him, but it is precisely everyone who is being protected and healed by him.

She may appear frail, but she is actually stronger and kinder than anyone else.

Pei Xi was very familiar with Pei Ruoyun's gaze.

With a hint of longing, it was as if she were gazing at something through him.

Pei Xi didn't move, but tightened his grip on Pei Ruoyun's arm.

Pei Ruoyun subtly snapped out of her reverie, raised her hand to touch Pei Xi's hair, her body still warm. "No matter what happens, you don't have to be strong. Mom will always be your strong support, okay?"

"Mm!" Pei Xi nodded with a smile, his eyebrows curving slightly.

The two had only taken two steps down the corridor when they were met by Pei Zhi, who was hurrying towards them.

Pei Zhi also saw them. He was stunned for a moment, seemingly not expecting to actually see Pei Ruoyun.

Then he slowly walked over, his jaw clenched and hard, and reluctantly called out, "Mom."

Pei Ruoyun glanced at him and softly hummed in agreement.

The previously warm atmosphere suddenly became awkward.

Pei Xi was used to it.

Pei Zhi's attitude towards Pei Ruoyun has always been the same.

Calling out "Mom" twice is already the limit of communication.

If you say more than ten sentences in a day, then you've definitely had an argument.

Or the sun must have risen in the west.

Pei Ruoyun was already used to Pei Zhi's attitude, and she spoke first: "I heard you won the championship in the inter-school basketball tournament? Congratulations."

Pei Zhi turned his face away, seemingly disdainful, "That happened so long ago."

Upon hearing this, Pei Ruoyun paused for a moment and softly apologized, "I'm sorry, I should have sent you a congratulatory message back then."

Pei Zhi snorted, "Who wants your apology?"

Pei Ruoyun looked at him, lowered her gaze, and remained silent for a moment.

Seeing the atmosphere become tense, Pei Xi immediately spoke up: "Mom, are you going to stay at home for a few days this time?"

Pei Ruoyun shook her head and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. She raised her hand and glanced at the watch on her wrist. "Sorry, sweetie, I have to catch this afternoon's flight."

Sure enough, Pei Zhi scoffed dismissively when he heard the "sorry".

A meaningless apology.

Sorry, it's of no use.

"Take good care of your sister." Pei Ruoyun turned to look at Pei Zhi and earnestly instructed, "Be a good older brother and don't let your sister worry about you."

“I don’t need you to remind me,” Pei Zhi replied quickly.

His jaw was clenched tightly, as if he was suppressing some emotion.

-

Pei Ruoyun left the school directly to catch her flight, and the three of them didn't even have lunch together.

The school was quite efficient; when I went for lunch break, they immediately reposted Pei Xi's award list and a clarification notice.

But Pei Xi always had someone on his mind.

But I didn't see him all morning.

So she silently went upstairs to look for Pei Zhi in his class.

I peered out the window in the hallway for a while, but I didn't see the person I was looking for inside.

Pei Xi turned her head and found someone standing next to her, bending over like her, looking through the glass like she was.

Her eyes lit up, and she burst out laughing.

Then she looked around and grabbed his school uniform sleeve, sneakily pulling him to a deserted corner of the stairs.

Jiang Cheng followed her step by step, letting her lead him.

When they reached the corner of the stairs, Pei Xi stopped and asked him in a low voice, "Why didn't you tell me you went to see Li Yiming yesterday?"

Jiang Cheng was taken aback; he didn't want Pei Xi to get involved.

He can do this himself.

Pei Xi could tell what he was thinking just by looking at his expression.

She said softly, "Next time something like this happens, you must tell me first."

After saying that, she immediately spat three times, "No, no, that's bad luck, there won't be a next time."

Jiang Cheng looked down at her and was amused by her.

Pei Xi seemed to remember something, so she tiptoed closer to him and lowered her voice even further: "Did you hit him yesterday?"

The smile in Jiang Cheng's eyes faltered for a moment.

Feeling that admitting it directly wasn't a good idea, he gave a vague answer: "He's quite frail."

He knocked me down with a single punch.

Pei Xi frowned. "You really hit him?"

Jiang Cheng, unusually, retorted, "Shouldn't he have been beaten up?"

“Of course he should,” Pei Xi nodded. “I’m just afraid he’ll turn around and bite you back.”

“Just yell at him a few times,” she said again, then asked with a look of curiosity and anticipation, “Did you yell at him?”

Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said, "Yes."

A sly glint flashed in Pei Xi's eyes. "What did you say to him?"

Jiang Cheng pursed his lips.

Actually, there were a few more sentences after that abruptly ended recording.

His thoughts were drawn back to last night.

Under the streetlights.

Li Yiming collapsed to the ground, a trace of blood at the corner of his mouth, but his eyes were filled with contempt as he looked at him. "I am not good enough for Pei Xi, but do you think you are?"

"You're just like me, indulging in wishful thinking."

"We are exactly the same."

Jiang Cheng looked at him calmly.

He showed no sign of being provoked.

After a few seconds, he chuckled and looked at the person on the ground with disdain.

He couldn't reach her, so he just kept trying to climb up.

Instead of dragging her down into the quagmire they were in.

So he coldly cursed, "I'm nothing like you, you piece of trash."
