Chapter 85 Pei Xi, there's a thief!!

As they were talking, the fried noodles were ready, and the owner brought them over to Pei Zhi and placed them on the table.

Pei Zhi looked around and saw that this table was the only relatively empty place; there wasn't a good other spot.

So he sat down directly.

He sat diagonally opposite Jiang Cheng, wishing he could sit outside the table, eight hundred meters away from Jiang Cheng.

To show her rejection of him.

Jiang Cheng ignored him and suddenly said, "If you really can't stand it, you can drink some wine, it can relieve your fatigue."

Pei Zhi paused in his eating of fried noodles, then heard Jiang Cheng ask hesitantly, "But are you an adult?"

For some reason, Pei Zhi heard this as a provocation, and he frowned and said irritably, "Of course."

My birthday was just two months ago.

Suddenly overcome by an inexplicable competitive spirit, Pei Zhi got up, went to the refrigerator, grabbed a bottle of beer (whose brand he didn't know), picked up the bottle opener hanging on the table, and opened the bottle cap directly.

Then I took a glass and poured a small amount into it.

He drank it all in one gulp.

Jiang Cheng frowned as he looked at him.

He felt that Pei Zhi didn't seem to have been drinking.

So, still a little worried, he asked, "How much can you drink?"

Pei Zhi squinted and didn't reply.

Jiang Cheng's heart skipped a beat, and he knew something was wrong.

Then he watched as Pei Zhi's face grew redder and redder at an astonishing speed.

Jiang Cheng: "..."

"Pei Zhi?" he called out, frowning.

Pei Zhi frowned as well, and replied irritably, "What?"

Jiang Cheng keenly noticed that his speech had begun to slow down.

He took a deep breath, realizing he was just making trouble for himself.

He almost forgot that every word he uttered sounded like a provocation to Pei Zhi.

Pei Zhi is the most susceptible to being provoked in the world.

Jiang Cheng rubbed his forehead, feeling a bit of a headache.

Pei Zhi's head bobbed up and down, his eyes gradually becoming glazed over, and he was getting drunk faster than he had imagined.

Jiang Cheng took a deep breath, took out his phone, and sent a message to Pei Xi.

Then she got up and put Pei Zhi's arm on her shoulder.

-

Jiang Cheng brought Pei Zhi back to the Pei family home half an hour later.

From afar, he saw Pei Xi standing at the door waiting.

Upon seeing the two, she approached them. Looking at Pei Zhi, who was completely drunk, she frowned and asked, "How much did he drink?"

Jiang Cheng paused for a moment, then said, "One cup."

Pei Xi: "..."

Pei Zhi had never drunk alcohol before, so she really didn't know he was a lightweight.

She supported Pei Zhi on the other side, draped his arm over her shoulder, and helped Jiang Cheng share some of the weight.

The two of them helped Pei Zhi to his doorstep.

Then Pei Xi released Pei Zhi and entered the password into the combination lock.

Jiang Cheng held Pei Zhi's arm from behind, listening to him mutter incoherently, his words slurred, making it impossible to understand what he was saying.

He moved closer.

Then I heard Pei Zhi say, "Stay...away...from...my...baby..."

Jiang Cheng's eyes darkened, and he spoke in a low voice to the drunkard, as if he were talking to himself: "You're not the only one who treasures her."

Pei Xi had already opened the door. Hearing their voices, she turned around and looked at them, somewhat puzzled. "What are you two talking about?"

Jiang Cheng curled his lips slightly and shook his head. "It's nothing, he was just talking nonsense."

Pei Xi responded with an "oh," without suspecting anything, and took Pei Zhi from Jiang Cheng's hands.

Jiang Cheng let go of his hand, then suddenly remembered something and said to Pei Xi, "By the way, if he asks tomorrow where the money in his pocket went, remember to tell him that he paid for his own meal, he also wanted to pay for mine, and he insisted on paying for the taxi fare. Most importantly, before getting in the car, he saw a pitiful beggar kneeling on the roadside, so he gave him a full hundred yuan."

Pei Xi: "..."

"Tell him tomorrow, so he doesn't think I stole it." Jiang Cheng smiled helplessly.

Pei Xi nodded, feeling both amused and exasperated.

She looked at Jiang Cheng and asked him, "Would you like to come in and sit for a while?"

Jiang Cheng shook his head. "No need. You take care of Pei Zhi."

Pei Xi thought for a moment, then nodded.

There's a drunkard in the house, so we really don't have the energy to entertain guests.

She smiled at Jiang Cheng and said, "Thank you for bringing Pei Zhiyun back today. You've worked hard."

Jiang Cheng suddenly felt a little ashamed.

Without him, Pei Zhi would never drink alcohol.

He looked at Pei Xi and said, "No need to thank me."

Then he waved goodbye to her and disappeared by the courtyard wall outside the gate.

Pei Xi watched his retreating figure leave, then went inside and escorted Pei Zhi back to his room.

Pei Zhi's drinking manners were surprisingly good; he didn't cause any trouble even when drunk, and fell fast asleep shortly after getting home, saving Pei Xi a lot of trouble.

The next morning, as soon as Pei Xi opened his eyes, he heard a pig-like wail coming from next door.

She quickly got up, put on her slippers, and ran to Pei Zhi's room. There she saw Pei Zhi standing blankly by the bed, his head a mess, holding a green fifty-yuan bill in his hand.

Upon seeing Pei Xi, he looked on incredulously and cried out in tears, "There's a thief! Pei Xi! There's a thief!!!"

"My money is gone!! My hard-earned money!!"

Pei Xi looked at the green RMB note in Pei Zhi's hand, chuckled, and said lightly, "What kind of thief steals money and gives you change?"

Then, leaning against the door frame, she recounted to him, as if telling a story, what Jiang Cheng had told her the night before.

Upon hearing this, Pei Zhi's expression was as if he had been struck by lightning, and he sat down on the bed with a thud.

He looked at the banknotes in his hand, his heart sinking so much he couldn't speak.

He worked himself to the bone to earn this little bit of money, and he gave it to a beggar?!

He's so generous!

Pei Zhi scratched his head in frustration, and when he raised his arm, his trapezius and biceps muscles ached so much that he gasped.

He angrily pounded the bed again.

Although the two hundred or so yuan he earned wouldn't have been enough to buy a pair of sneakers, it could at least have bought him a decent gift.

Now, all that's left is fifty.

Seeing his remorseful expression, Pei Xi spoke up at the right moment: "By the way, Brother Shi Chen asked us to go to his house this afternoon. Let's go out and buy him a gift later."

Pei Zhi glanced down at the banknotes in his hand: "..."

Fifty yuan? What kind of yarn could he possibly buy?
