Jiang Cheng went home first.
He first walked briskly, then jogged, and arrived home in just a few minutes. It was late December, and his back was covered in a thin layer of sweat.
He went home to change his clothes.
After spending an hour in the internet cafe, I already smelled of smoke, which wasn't very pleasant.
He changed all his clothes, putting on a warm, windproof black windbreaker instead of his jacket, and even looked in the mirror before leaving.
The expression on his face was as if he were going to keep a very important appointment.
Because it was Christmas, there were more people on the streets than usual, even though it was already dark. Many shops along the street were decorated with red and green ornaments, which, combined with the unmelted snow, created a festive atmosphere.
Jiang Cheng went to the same movie theater as last time.
When he arrived at the door, Pei Xi hadn't sent him a message yet, which meant she hadn't arrived.
He didn't go inside; he just stood at the door and waited.
The temperature was very low, and people's breath turned into white mist, but Jiang Cheng didn't feel that cold.
After waiting a few minutes, his phone rang. He took it out and saw a message from Pei Xi.
"I'm getting off the bus."
Jiang Cheng looked up and saw Pei Xi standing by the roadside. She was wearing a thick khaki fleece coat, looking like a little bear, and she looked incredibly warm.
Upon seeing Jiang Cheng, her eyes lit up. She waved to him and quickly walked over.
Seeing his slightly red nose, she frowned. "Why don't you go inside and wait?"
Before Jiang Cheng could answer, he saw her quickly open the door and wave to him, "Come in quickly, it's so cold outside."
She didn't go in herself, but stood by the half-open door, waiting for him.
"I'm here," Jiang Cheng replied hastily, striding over to take the door from Pei Xi who was holding it.
The two entered the house, where it was warm and cozy, instantly dispelling all the chill from their bodies.
As expected, the movie theater was packed with people, men and women, hand in hand, one couple after another, with no one alone.
If you count carefully, you'd probably find pairs even of the French fries sold in the glass display case; there aren't any single men among them.
Pei Xi bought the ticket on a whim, so naturally there weren't many good seats left, only some corner seats.
So she bought a corner unit in the last row.
The two quickly entered the theater after having their tickets checked. Pei Xi rubbed the ticket stub in her hand as she walked into the screening room, looking up at Jiang Cheng and saying, "This is a romance film. I don't know if you'll like watching it."
When she bought it, only the screening times for this movie were suitable.
She swears to God that she never intentionally bought any romantic movies.
Jiang Cheng paused for a moment upon hearing this, then replied, "I like it."
Pei Xi noticed his pause and said half-jokingly, "I won't force you, will I?"
Jiang Cheng answered quickly this time: "Of course not."
"Oh, that's good." Pei Xi smiled, a sly glint in his eyes.
The two entered the screening room, found their seats, the lights quickly dimmed, the sound system roared, and the movie began.
When the cast list came on, Pei Xi suddenly remembered something, moved closer to Jiang Cheng, and said in a low voice, "Oh right, I forgot to tell you, I've already eaten the apple, it was delicious."
The distance was so close that the warm breath she exhaled when she spoke startled Jiang Cheng, and his ears went numb.
He didn't reply immediately.
Pei Xi thought he hadn't heard her, so she moved closer, her loose hair falling onto his arm, and whispered in his ear, "I said, I ate the apple you gave me."
Jiang Cheng thought he smelled a floral fragrance.
I don't know where it came from; maybe it was from her clothes, maybe it was from her hair, or maybe it was from her breath.
His chest heaved as he took a deep breath.
Then exhale slowly and evenly.
After doing all this discreetly, he turned to look at Pei Xi and replied in a low voice, "I understand."
Pei Xi said "Oh" and then sat back down.
Jiang Chengping's tense nerves finally relaxed.
But they couldn't relax for long.
Every time Pei Xi saw a scene, she would exchange a few words with him. In order not to disturb others, she would lower her voice and stand very close to him.
The warm breath repeatedly touched his ears.
Jiang Cheng's hand clenched tighter and tighter.
After a few times, he had no idea what the movie was about, and he couldn't concentrate on it at all, watching it in bits and pieces.
Fortunately, Pei Xi didn't expect any feedback from him; it seemed like he was just venting one-sidedly, only hoping to get a simple "hmm" from him.
So Jiang Cheng just glossed over most of the movie like that.
Until she saw the ending, when the loving couple were separated for various reasons, Pei Xi was dissatisfied with the plot and came over to talk to him for a while.
Jiang Cheng was even more tormented, his back tense, and he had no mind to listen to what she was saying or whether the script was logical.
He could only keep humming in response.
Pei Xi finally noticed his perfunctory attitude, poked his arm, and said with some dissatisfaction, "Why don't you say anything? You just keep saying 'uh-huh'."
Jiang Cheng suddenly felt like rubbing his temples.
He remained silent for a while, then Pei Xi nudged his arm again.
Jiang Chengwei sighed almost imperceptibly, then suddenly lowered his head and whispered in her ear, "...I think what you said is all right."
Pei Xi was stunned.
She had no time to notice that Jiang Cheng's eyelashes were only a few centimeters away from her; all she knew was that her ears suddenly felt numb and hot.
If there were bright lights, you should be able to see a slight reddish tinge.
