Chapter 96 I lied to you

In fact, Pei Zhi was not exaggerating.

As Pei Zhi said, these gossip groups at No. 1 Middle School have exploded like boiling water poured into a pot of oil.

[Holy crap, breaking news! Jiang Cheng is deaf in one ear, did you guys know?!]

【What?! Is this information even true?!】

[Zhao Xiangming from Class 5 said it himself. He said he swore on it with his own integrity. He heard it with his own ears in the internet cafe, and Jiang Cheng was sitting right across from him!]

Come on, that kid has no integrity whatsoever. He's always talking nonsense, and eleven out of ten sentences he says are just bragging. You actually believe what he says?

[Really, you won't believe me, he even took pictures. Jiang Chengzhen was sitting across from him. Look, the photos are right here.]

[Holy crap, this is thrilling! Could it really be real?!]

I'm starting to believe it now.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure it's true. Zhao Xiangming usually loves to brag, but he has no reason to lie about something like this. What good would lying do him?

The person upstairs is right, I feel it's true.

[Zhao Xiangming is amazing! He managed to overhear something like this; it's fucking incredible.]

[I knew it! No wonder he never talks to people; he can't hear us!]

[Hahahaha, what kind of hellish joke is this?!]

You're hilarious! But what you said is actually quite possible, hahaha...

[...]

Jiang Cheng wasn't in any of the gossip groups, so these people started to act recklessly, and the group chat kept buzzing with messages.

Actually, there are students with disabilities in such a big school, but everyone just talks about it casually and moves on.

But now this person is Jiang Cheng.

Because it involves Jiang Cheng, this matter is like a bombshell, making people's blood boil more than any previous gossip.

A cold, unapproachable, and almost perfect person, who is the subject of much discussion, actually harbors a secret illness that is not for others to know. From any perspective, this makes one's gossip instincts scream wildly.

The messages in these groups kept popping up late into the night, like bubbles in boiling water, rising and falling one after another.

Some were surprised, some gloated, some felt pity, and most were just watching for fun.

Pei Zhi couldn't stand it anymore, so he set all the notifications to "Do Not Disturb".

As he was about to leave the group chat, Pei Zhi's hand paused subconsciously.

His gaze fell on the sentence, "No wonder he usually ignores people; he can't hear us," and a hint of bewilderment flashed in his eyes.

What if...what they're saying is true?

Pei Zhi sighed and then shook his head vigorously.

Impossible. Jiang Cheng's arrogant personality doesn't seem like he has a disability at all.

That's definitely impossible.

He turned off his phone and tossed it aside.

Sleep is the most important thing.

The next day, as expected, everyone was talking about it when school started.

Pei Xi heard people talking when she went to the toilet, when she got water, and when she returned to the classroom.

Even Shen Miaoyi overheard this and privately asked Pei Xi in a low voice, "Pei Xi, is what they're saying true?"

Pei Xi remained silent and did not answer.

Shen Miaoyi opened her eyes in surprise. She wasn't that stupid; she knew that silence already represented an answer.

Pei Xi didn't go to find Jiang Cheng. Except for going to the toilet and getting water, she sat in the classroom all morning, sitting more heavily than ever before.

Because she wasn't sure whether she should go to him at this time.

We should pretend we know nothing and tacitly cover it up.

Pei Xi spent the morning feeling somewhat uneasy. At noon, after school, she and Shen Miaoyi went to the cafeteria for lunch.

The cafeteria was packed with people at mealtimes. Pei Xi and Shen Miaoyi lined up separately; she lined up for stir-fried dishes, while Shen Miaoyi lined up for noodles.

Standing in the queue, Pei Xi glanced at the endless stream of people at the entrance and caught a glimpse of a familiar tall figure.

Jiang Cheng remained expressionless, his entire demeanor cold and aloof. He walked calmly and serenely through the crowd, then parted ways with it.

Many people's eyes fell on him, scanning him up and down, before turning to whisper to their companions.

Jiang Cheng ignored him, as if he hadn't seen anything.

It was as if he wasn't the one receiving all those gazes.

He didn't see Pei Xi and walked straight to another line. Pei Xi gently withdrew his gaze and heard a conversation coming from the side.

It was a man and a woman, and they seemed to be behaving intimately.

"Hey, Jiang Cheng, can't you hear me?" the girl asked.

The boy chuckled, "Of course it is, how could it be fake? Zhao Xiangming even posted the photos."

The girl exclaimed "Ah!" with some curiosity, "Which ear can't he hear?"

The boy raised an eyebrow and let out a flippant chuckle. "Why don't you try it and see? I'm telling you, just stand next to him and speak to him in a low voice. If he can't hear you..."

Before he could finish speaking, Pei Xi could no longer bear it, so she stepped forward and bumped his arm.

"Excuse me, you're blocking my way." Although she was apologizing, her voice was cold.

The boy was taken aback, glanced at Pei Xi, a hint of amazement flashing in his eyes, his lips moved, but he swallowed back the words he was about to say.

Seeing this, the girl next to him suddenly got angry and shoved Pei Xi's shoulder, "Hey, what do you mean?"

She was much shorter than Pei Xi and not very strong, so Pei Xi only took a small half-step back.
