Side Story 1: Cat

Not long after their marriage, the couple moved into their new home.

One afternoon, Pei Xi was sitting on a swing reading a book when he suddenly heard a faint meow coming from the corner of the yard.

She paused, walked over, and slowly, quietly, saw a fluffy ball huddled in a corner by the flower bed.

The kitten was about four or five months old, very thin, with a dark face and dry, thin fur.

It's a small calico cat.

The irregular black patches on his back looked like spilled ink, while a patch of orange on his head was clearly visible and soft in the sunlight.

Pei Xi looked into its glass-bead-like eyes, and her heart melted with tenderness.

She cautiously reached out her hand. The kitten showed no wariness; it even stood up and came closer, rubbing its fluffy head against her hand.

Her personality is unbelievably good.

Pei Xi immediately decided to adopt it.

A pet that comes to your door must be a matter of fate.

She took the kitten to the vet. After the checkup, it was found that the kitten was only slightly anemic and had some ringworm on its nose, but otherwise it was fine.

After getting the medicine, Pei Xi carried it home.

And so, a new member joined the family and moved into the cat house that Pei Xi had reserved for them.

Pei Xi entrusted the task of naming it to Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng frowned slightly as he watched the kitten intently eating its meal.

Naming things is not his forte.

But since Pei Xi entrusted him with this task, he was determined to complete it diligently.

After pondering for a long time, he tentatively suggested, "How about calling it... Mango?"

Pei Xi was taken aback, then smiled and asked him, "Why?"

Jiang Cheng squatted down with her, pointed to the orange color on the kitten's head, and said softly, "The yellow fur on its head looks just like a mango pit that someone has sucked on."

Pei Xi couldn't help but burst out laughing.

This is...so cute!

Whether it's a mango.

Or... Jiang Cheng, explaining the origin of her name to her in a very serious manner.

He must have brainstormed for a while before coming up with such a name.

Thinking about it this way, Pei Xi wanted to laugh again.

With a smile and full of approval, she said, "Okay, let's call him that."

After saying that, she stroked the soft fuzz on Mango's body and asked softly to Mango, who was focused on eating, "Little Mango, do you like the name your father gave you?"

Jiang Cheng was taken aback when he heard the way she addressed him, and stared at her intently.

Pei Xi, however, was completely unaware, his gaze fixed on the kitten, gently stroking its back.

"From now on, you'll have a home, little cat."

After finishing his meal, Mango sat quietly on the ground, his glassy eyes fixed on her, as if pondering the meaning behind her words.

Pei Xi picked it up, took its little paw, and waved it at Jiang Cheng like a human greeting, asking with a smile, "How is it? Isn't Daddy handsome?"

Meow~

A clear, sweet voice rang out in the quiet room.

Pei Xi and Jiang Cheng laughed together.

Then, Jiang Cheng reached out and very gently patted Mango's head.

Mango closed her eyes and, as if relying on him, rubbed her forehead against his palm.

“It likes you very much too,” Pei Xi said with a smile.

Jiang Cheng hummed in agreement and touched it a couple more times.

Pei Xi put the mango back on the ground, got up to get her phone, and sent a message to Pei Zhi with a sly smile, "Brother, you're an uncle now."

The phone chimed, and Pei Zhi replied instantly to the message, "???!!!"

"Are you kidding me?!"

"??????!!!!!!!!! When did this happen?!"

Pei Xi suppressed a laugh and typed back, "Really, just now."

Before Pei Zhi could reply, she took a picture and sent it over.

"So, isn't your niece pretty?"

Pei Zhi: "……………………"

“…………………”

“…………………”

Pei Xi burst out laughing at his phone.

However, although Pei Zhi was amused, his uncle was very responsible and delivered a large amount of cat food and canned cat food the next day.

And so began Little Mango's life of being endlessly pampered.

They were so pampered that President Jiang personally fed them and changed their water every morning.

Every morning when Pei Xi gets up, he passes by the cat house and finds that Mango's food and water have been completely changed, and everything is arranged cleanly and properly.

One morning, she got up early before Jiang Cheng went to work. As she passed the cat house, she heard rustling sounds coming from inside. It was Jiang Cheng feeding the cats.

Pei Xi tiptoed and quietly walked to the door.

A low sound came from inside.

"Sweetie, don't bother your mom, she's sleeping in."

"Eat slowly, or you'll throw up. If you throw up, your mom will scold your dad."

"Remember to drink plenty of water after you finish your food, or you'll get sick. If you get sick, your mom will be worried about you, you know?"

She leaned closer to the door and peered through the crack at the person inside. The tall figure was kneeling on the ground, his fingers clumsily stroking the cat's head, talking to himself as he looked at the kitten in front of him.

Sunlight streamed in through the wide glass window, casting a warm golden glow on the person and the cat, creating a scene of unbelievable beauty.

Pei Xi suddenly smiled.

She actually saw a fatherly gentleness and kindness in Jiang Cheng.

She couldn't help but wonder what he would do if they actually had a child.

He is probably the most responsible and patient father in the world.

However, this will not happen for many years.

After all, she hadn't had enough of their time together yet.
