Pei Xi didn't know that internet cafes offered minimum top-up periods of a certain number of hours, so she tentatively asked, "Is an hour okay?"
"Yes, of course you can."
The skinny young man swallowed the instant noodles in his mouth and nodded quickly.
After he finished speaking, he buried his head in the computer and clicked a few times. Then the ticket printer on the table buzzed twice.
He tore off the printed ticket and handed it to Pei Xi, "Okay, the login password is on here. Go in and find your spot."
After saying that, seeing Pei Xi looking at the ticket from left to right as if it were his first time there, he thoughtfully added, "Any machine will do. Just turn it on and enter the password to use it."
Upon hearing this, Pei Xi suddenly realized what he meant and smiled at him, "Thank you."
The skinny guy was almost blinded by the laughter. "You're welcome, you're welcome."
Pei Xi glanced at him, returned a polite smile, and then went inside to find the machine.
Perhaps because it was the weekend, the internet cafe was crowded, and everyone was wearing headphones and intently staring at their computer screens.
The room was filled with the clattering sound of people typing on keyboards.
Many people were smoking while playing games, and the air was filled with a pungent smell of smoke, mixed with the smell of instant noodles of different flavors, which was filthy and unpleasant.
Pei Xi couldn't stand the smell of smoke. She endured the odor and looked around until she finally found a quiet spot where no one was around.
She walked over quickly, thinking she wanted to finish quickly, register, and leave immediately.
Pei Xi found a place to sit down and went to turn on the computer, but for some reason, after pressing the power button several times, the computer screen did not respond and remained completely black.
She frowned and looked her over for a long time.
She had never been to an internet cafe before and didn't know how the computers here differed from those at home, suspecting that she had forgotten to press some button.
So she stood up, tapped the shoulder of the person behind her who was playing a game, and said, "Hi, I wanted to ask about this computer..."
Before he could finish speaking, the person turned around, and Pei Xi's words came to an abrupt halt.
"...It's you?!"
Her eyes widened.
Jiang Cheng's face also showed a rare expression of surprise.
He frowned at Pei Xi, then reached out and took off his headphones, asking her, "What's wrong?"
Pei Xi hadn't seen him for several days since leaving his house that day, and was momentarily stunned and dazed when she suddenly saw him.
She paused for a few seconds, then pursed her lips and pointed somewhat shyly to the computer: "...This computer won't turn on, could you teach me how?"
Jiang Cheng glanced back at her and said, "Those computers are broken."
Pei Xi was taken aback.
She subconsciously looked around; everywhere else was packed with people.
...No wonder only this row of seats is empty.
Meeting Jiang Cheng's gaze, she awkwardly fidgeted with the hem of her coat, "...Oh."
Jiang Cheng looked at her, his eyes flashing, and pointed to the empty seat next to him.
"The one next to me is fine."
After saying that, he turned his head and pressed the power button on the computer next to him.
The computer screen immediately lit up and turned blue.
Pei Xi leaned back in the chair, looked at his profile, and whispered, "Thank you."
Jiang Cheng put on his headphones, saying as he did so, "You're welcome."
Seeing this, Zhu Yuan forgot to smoke the cigarette he was holding and stared at Jiang Cheng in disbelief.
When did Brother Cheng become so enthusiastic?
Jiang Cheng ignored his gaze and focused on returning to the game.
Zhu Yuan craned his neck to look over Jiang Cheng at Pei Xi.
This girl is so beautiful, both pretty and clean, that Zhu Yuan couldn't help but click his tongue in admiration.
After glancing at it twice, Jiang Cheng suddenly sat up straight, his view completely blocked.
"...Brother Cheng?"
Zhu Yuan called him, but Jiang Cheng seemed not to hear, as if he had just changed his posture unintentionally.
Seeing him focused on clearing levels, Zhu Yuan had a lot of questions he wanted to ask, but he didn't dare to disturb him.
Feeling suffocated, I took a few more deep drags on my cigarette.
Before he could even exhale, he heard Jiang Cheng turn to look at him and say, "Put out your cigarette."
Zhu Yuan was taken aback. "Huh?"
Before he could react, Jiang Cheng snatched the cigarette from his mouth and stubbed it out in the ashtray.
"Holy crap, Cheng-ge, you...!"
Zhu Yuan stared at the half-eaten cigarette in the ashtray, his eyes wide with anguish.
Jiang Cheng withdrew his gaze, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he coldly remarked, "It has a certain charm."
Zhu Yuan: "?"
Why didn't he complain about the smell all afternoon?
Zhu Yuan glanced at the back of Jiang Cheng's head, which was partially obscured, and suddenly had a flash of inspiration, as if he had discovered some earth-shattering secret. However, he couldn't ask now and could only keep it to himself.
Beside him, Pei Xi had been logging onto the registration website as soon as he turned on his computer, spending half a day filling in the information.
They were completely unaware of what was happening around them.
After working on it for ages, Pei Xi finally finished and saw the words "Registration Successful" on the screen. His heart finally settled down.
She closed the webpage, but her gaze involuntarily drifted to Jiang Cheng's computer screen, where she noticed he was playing a game.
He held the mouse in one hand and operated the keyboard with the other, his fingers moving quickly and nimbly up and down, constantly displaying successful kills on the screen.
Seeing him so focused on playing, Pei Xi shut down the computer, got up to leave, but suddenly recalled the scene when she left his house that day.
At the alley entrance, he caught up with her and said he would take her to the amusement park. When she refused him, he seemed to be taken aback and disappointed for a moment.
