Chapter 44 Tiramisu

Chapter 44 Tiramisu

In the parking lot, Yan Shuang's black Audi was parked quietly.

She opened the car door, got in, rested her forehead on the steering wheel for three seconds, and then started the engine.

The car had barely driven two hundred meters from the Yan family's gate when a blinding beam of high beams shone directly from behind.

Yan Shuang squinted at the rearview mirror. A black Bentley had followed her and was flashing its lights to signal her to stop.

"What's going on..." she muttered, but still turned on her turn signal and pulled over.

The Bentley came to a smooth stop behind her, and a middle-aged man in a black uniform walked quickly over and tapped lightly on her car window.

Yan Shuang lowered the window and recognized that this was Lao Chen, Shang Qiuzhu's private driver.

“Secretary Yan,” Old Chen bowed respectfully, “President Shang asked you to switch to his car. I will drive this car back for you.”

Yan Shuang's fingers tightened on the steering wheel. Was he waiting for her? What did he want to do with her? Settle scores later?

A deep sense of exhaustion washed over me.

"Okay." She replied briefly, turned off the engine, got out of the car, opened the passenger door, and got in.

Yan Shuang fastened her seatbelt without saying a word, placed her hands on her knees, and stared stubbornly out the window.

A feeling of "what's the use of trying" welled up inside me.

Anyway, this couldn't be worse than this: he discovered the surveillance, and our work became a joke.

Let him kill or torture me, it's up to him.

She was too lazy to speculate or maneuver any further.

She didn't want to talk, nor did she have the energy to ask him where he was taking her.

The engine hummed softly, and the car glided smoothly into the night.

Shangqiu Zhu remained silent, only occasionally tapping his slender fingers lightly on the steering wheel.

The car drove past one street lamp after another, the light and shadows alternating across the faces of the two people.

It wasn't heading towards his home, nor was it the way back to the company.

Yan Shuang's doubts began to grow, but she stubbornly refused to ask.

The car finally stopped in front of a European-style villa half-hidden by ivy.

"We've arrived." His voice remained flat, revealing no emotion.

Yan Shuang got out of the car, and a wooden sign hung at the entrance in front of her: "Madeline's Sweet Dream House".

"This is...?" Yan Shuang turned to Shangqiu Zhu in confusion.

A sweet fragrance wafted on the night breeze, like coffee mixed with the aroma of wine, and the rich scent of cream.

Her stomach rumbled softly, and because she was in a bad mood, she barely touched her chopsticks at dinner.

Shangqiu Zhu seemed to have heard, and the corners of his mouth turned up very slightly, but he quickly returned to his cold and stern expression.

Before she could think further, the door of the villa suddenly opened, and a round-faced aunt wearing a floral apron poked her head out: "Oh my, you're finally here! My tiramisu has been waiting so long I've fallen asleep!"

The aunt's enthusiasm was like a warm breeze that dispelled the chill of the night.

Without a word, she grabbed Yan Shuang's wrist and pulled her into the house: "You're the girl Xiao Shang mentioned who loves tiramisu, right? Tsk tsk, so thin, you need to eat more!"

Yan Shuang was taken aback by this sudden kindness and turned around to look at Shangqiu Zhu in a daze.

He followed behind, his face still expressionless.

Upon entering the room, the sweet fragrance became even stronger.

Yan Shuang was surprised to find that the entire first floor had been converted into a huge baking workshop, with a long wooden table in the center that could seat ten people, and at that moment, the table was filled with...

"Tiramisu?" Yan Shuang's eyes widened.

At least twenty different styles of tiramisu were lined up on the table: traditional square cuts, elegant cup versions, rose-shaped ones, ones sprinkled with gold leaf, and even one shaped like a little castle.

Each one is as beautiful as a work of art, and is extremely tempting.

"Want to try some?" the auntie proudly introduced. "I heard you like it, so I specially made all my best styles. You work hard, so you need to eat something sweet to nourish yourself."

Yan Shuang looked at the dessert sprinkled with cocoa powder in front of her, then glanced at the completely unfathomable man opposite her.

The storm that he caused at home hadn't completely subsided yet, but he brought her here.

None of the questions, warnings, or even mockery she expected happened.

He... just brought her here to eat tiramisu?

She didn't quite understand.
