Chapter 95 I Can't Do Anything With You
The night was as dark as ink, and the huge television screen in the living room was flashing with light and shadow, while gunshots and background sound effects filled the first-floor space.
Du Yunchuan was sprawled on the sofa, gripping the game controller, engrossed in the game.
Shang Qiuzhu pushed open the door and walked in. After dealing with the series of questions from the old foxes at the board of directors, he had a weariness between his brows and his tie was loosened.
His gaze swept across the living room, but he didn't see the figure, and his brows furrowed unconsciously.
"And her?"
Du Yunchuan put down the controller, picked up the beer next to him, took a sip, and then slowly replied, "They're sleeping upstairs. They've been sleeping for almost a day."
Shangqiu Zhu stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Du Yunchuan.
Du Yunchuan was startled by his gaze and immediately sat up straighter, speaking faster: "Hey, don't look at me like that! It's nothing, really nothing. I ate dinner tonight, and I ate quite a lot, I saw it with my own eyes. I'm not sick, I'm not feeling unwell, I'm just sleepy, really sleepy! I went back to sleep after eating, I guess I was too busy recently, and now that I've relaxed, I'm catching up on sleep."
Shangqiu Zhu's expression softened slightly. She recalled that there seemed to have been a similar incident before, when she had slept soundly for an entire day.
He didn't ask any more questions and walked straight towards the stairs.
As he stepped onto the stairs, his steps didn't falter, and his voice, though not loud, carried clearly downstairs: "Keep an eye on her for me during this time."
Upon hearing this, Du Yunchuan immediately began to wail dramatically, throwing down the game controller: "Here we go again, Shangqiu Zhu! I'm your childhood friend, not your slave! Ever since you got Xiao Shuangshuang, what kind of work have you made me do every day? Either I have to keep an eye on Yan You to prevent her from causing trouble, or I have to watch over Yan Shuang to prevent her from running away. I'm the young master of the Du family, what will become of my reputation if word gets out?"
Shangqiu Zhu had already reached the corner of the stairs. Upon hearing this, she paused slightly, her tone flat and emotionless: "Did you contribute to the preliminary work and key resources for those important projects of your company?"
Du Yunchuan choked instantly, like a rooster whose neck had been grabbed, all his complaints stuck in his throat.
The smooth progress of his projects was inseparable from the silent support of Shangqiu Zhu's vast resources and influence.
".....have to!"
Du Yunchuan rubbed his nose sullenly, picked up the game controller again, and muttered under his breath, "Fine, you win. I'll watch, okay? I must have owed you something in my past life."
Shangqiu Zhu ignored him and went straight up to the second floor, heading towards the master bedroom.
He stood outside the master bedroom door, his hand resting on the cold doorknob. He paused for a moment before gently pressing down.
The door opened silently inward.
The room was enveloped in deep darkness, with heavy curtains blocking out most of the outside light. Only a thin layer of moonlight gauze curtains could not completely filter out the moonlight pouring down from the window, preventing the room from being completely pitch black.
In the quiet darkness, wisps of silver light trickled gently across the air, eventually flowing onto the large bed in the center of the room.
Shangqiu Zhu stood at the door, not taking another step forward.
He watched her quietly as she slept peacefully in the moonlight, her long hair slightly disheveled and spread across the pillow, obscuring half of her face.
All the heated debates and backstabbing that I experienced at the board meetings during the day, and the pent-up frustration in my heart.
The moment I saw her, I softened without a sound.
Time itself seemed to slow down.
Yan Shuang turned over in bed, and the down comforter she was wrapped in slipped down a bit, revealing her slender legs.
Shangqiu Zhu walked in quietly and tucked the blanket back in where it had slipped off.
By the light of the moon, he could clearly see a rather glaring red mark on the outside of her fair calf, with even the edges tinged with a bluish-purple.
The bruises stood out starkly against her skin, like a silent accusation against him.
Shangqiu Zhu frowned, retrieved the family medicine kit, and applied ointment to the bruises on her legs.
Perhaps it was the focused gaze that lingered on her for so long.
As if sensing something in her sleep, Yan Shuang subconsciously curled up slightly towards the source of heat.
In countless nights they had slept in each other's arms, she would unconsciously roll into his embrace to find the most comfortable and warm spot.
Shangqiu Zhu immediately reached out and pulled that soft, fragrant body into his arms, letting her face rest against his chest.
He looked down at the peaceful, unguarded sleeping face of the person in his arms.
At this point, they became well-behaved.
He was so sharp-tongued last night, it gave him a headache.
He sighed very softly, not knowing what to do with her.
As if dreaming of some extremely unpleasant scene, the person in my arms mumbled something in a sleepy, nasal voice:
"Shangqiu Zhu, get out of here..."
"..."
All the softness just moments before froze instantly.
She even frowned slightly, her tone filled with grievance and resistance.
Even in her dreams, she rejected him in this way?
Downstairs, Du Yunchuan had just finished a game and was stretching when he looked up and saw Shang Qiuzhu walking down the stairs with a gloomy expression. The oppressive atmosphere emanating from him was even heavier than when he went up.
"Tsk," Du Yunchuan raised an eyebrow and put down the game controller. "Kicked out?"
His tone carried a hint of schadenfreude.
Shangqiu Zhu ignored him and went straight to the bar, opening the cabinet to take out the wine.
Du Yunchuan accompanied Shang Qiuzhu, drinking the pungent liquor intermittently, feeling like he had the worst luck imaginable.
What kind of life did he live before? He lived a life of luxury, with fancy cars, beautiful women, fine wine, parties, and extravagant spending.
But what about now?
In the dead of night, instead of sleeping with my soft, fragrant model girlfriend, I have to stay in this cold living room, facing a Yama whose face is darker than the bottom of a pot and who exudes coldness.
This isn't some celebratory drink to cheer you up; it's a drink to drown your sorrows with your heartbroken buddy!
Pure suffering!
He glanced at Shangqiu Zhu, who remained silent beside him.
“Old Shang…” Du Yunchuan couldn’t help but say, “My girlfriend just texted me asking if I’m dead…”
Shangqiu Zhu didn't even lift his eyelids.
Du Yunchuan was utterly desperate. Resigned, he picked up the bottle, filled it again, and gulped it down.
