Chapter 96 Going to work is good, going to work is good

Chapter 96 Going to work is good, going to work is good

The next day.

When the holiday ended, Yan Shuang changed into a suit, a white silk shirt with a bodycon suit skirt underneath.

Makeup concealed fatigue, and lipstick brightened her complexion.

She looked at the impeccable Secretary Yan in the mirror, took a deep breath, and went downstairs.

Stepping into the living room, a faint, lingering smell of alcohol filled the air.

Du Yunchuan was seen leaning alone on the sofa, fast asleep, looking exhausted from a hangover.

Yan Shuang, not wanting to disturb them, quietly walked towards the entrance.

However, the slight noise when changing shoes still startled him.

Du Yunchuan sprang up from the sofa almost reflexively, his eyes still a little blurry, but he already asked eagerly, "Little Shuang, my sister?"

He staggered over quickly. "Are you going out? You just...you just rested for a day, and you still look unwell. Why don't you stay home and rest some more?"

Yan Shuang stopped in her tracks. "President Du, I'm going to work."

"Go to...work?"

Du Yunchuan paused for a moment, then carefully examined her impeccable business attire and the work bag she was carrying before his tense shoulders relaxed slightly.

"Yes, I'm going to work," Yan Shuang repeated with a smile. "Don't worry, go back to sleep."

Du Yunchuan sized her up for several seconds before awkwardly stepping aside to make way.

"Oh, good day at work, good day at work... Let's talk things out calmly, please don't get angry again..."

Yan Shuang nodded slightly, walked around him, and reached out to open the door.

The company was empty and quiet, with only the faint sound of the cleaning lady wiping the floor.

Yan Shuang arrived at her post half an hour early and brewed coffee, placing it in the usual spot on the upper right corner of his desk.

Then they immediately fled the scene.

He turned around, his hand not even touching the office doorknob.

But the door was pushed open from the outside.

Shangqiu Zhu stood at the door, tilting her head slightly as she listened to Lin Sheng report on the morning's schedule.

Their eyes met unexpectedly in mid-air.

Yan Shuang's lips tightened unconsciously.

Shang Qiuzhu stopped in his tracks, looking at her who clearly shouldn't be in his office at this time. A faint surprise flashed in his deep eyes. His gaze quickly swept over her empty hands and finally settled on the coffee cup that was steaming on his desk.

Lin Sheng also stopped reporting, keenly sensing the subtle atmosphere, and immediately kept his eyes down and mind at ease, wisely remaining silent.

Yan Shuang raised her head and met Shang Qiuzhu's deep gaze. She almost forced herself to do it, relying entirely on her professional instincts.

He managed to squeeze out a title as smoothly as possible from between his teeth: "General Manager Shang."

Shangqiu Zhu's gaze swept across her face, and he hummed in response.

As if granted a pardon, she squeezed through the gap between him and the door frame, quickly disappearing into the doorway.

Yan Shuang's inner monologue was a madcap: Office romances are a killer!!!

While others enjoy sweet dates, shopping, and movies, she lives a life fraught with danger, constantly on the verge of social death.

The boss doesn't act like a boss, the lover doesn't act like a lover, and even greeting each other feels like torture.

They were afraid that even a glance at each other would reveal that they had cried pathetically the night before.

And after an argument, you still have to serve him tea and water right under his nose.

I just can't stand working this job for even a day.

But the next second she resignedly turned on her computer.

Yan Shuang forced herself to focus on the screen and reply to the emails that had piled up for two weeks.

The busyness of work temporarily numbed my senses until a project budget figure needed final confirmation.

The only person who can be finalized is currently in the conference room.

Normally, she would simply get up, take the documents, walk to his office, and ask him in person.

But today...

Yan Shuang glanced at the tall, cold figure sitting behind the glass wall of the conference room, then immediately looked away.

The thought of walking up to him and speaking to him in a calm, professional tone made her breath catch in her throat.

She opened her company email and typed in an extremely businesslike title: [Please confirm the final budget amount for Project J].

The main text lists the necessary data and questions.

Check and send.

She stared at the "sent successfully" notification, and just as she breathed a sigh of relief, she saw the screen of Shangqiu Zhu's phone on the table in the conference room light up.

He was listening to the report when he glanced down at it.

With just one glance, his normally composed brows furrowed almost imperceptibly, and then his gaze pierced through the glass partition, looking directly at her at her workstation.

Yan Shuang's heart skipped a beat, and she immediately lowered her head like an ostrich, grabbing a document haphazardly to cover her face.

Almost immediately, a new email notification popped up in the lower right corner of her computer.

Sender: Shangqiu Zhu.

Title: Re: [Please confirm the final budget amount for Project J]

She reluctantly clicked on it.

The email body is completely blank.

There was only one conspicuous question mark: "?".

...

Yan Shuang stared at the lonely question mark, almost unable to catch her breath.

He did it on purpose!

Such a simple and direct question, the budget amount is confirmed, it's written clearly in black and white in the email, how could he not understand it with his efficiency of reading documents at a glance?

It's clearly a deliberate attempt to make things difficult.

She bit her lip, and that awkward feeling welled up inside her.

I pounded my fingers on the keyboard and resent an email. I didn't change the subject, but I added a more detailed explanation to the body of the email and highlighted the controversial number in bold red.

Follow at the end:

Please specify the exact amount, Mr. Shang.

Please specify the exact amount, Mr. Shang.

Please specify the exact amount, Mr. Shang.

send.

I'll say it three times because it's important.

She raised her eyes and looked at the conference room with a hint of provocation.

Shangqiu Zhu glanced down at his phone again.

Almost immediately, Yan Shuang's computer beeped with a new email notification.

She clicked on it.

This time, the email still didn't contain the specific number she wanted.

Only one line of small print:

"Doesn't your hand hurt? You hit so hard."

"!!!"

Yan Shuang's cheeks flushed uncontrollably, the blush spreading all the way to her ears.

Inside the conference room, Shang Qiuzhu had already refocused on the meeting. His profile remained stern, but a faint smile seemed to linger at the corner of his mouth.

As the meeting concluded, the heavy conference room door opened, and the executives filed out, whispering about the follow-up matters.

Shangqiu Zhu walked in the center of the crowd, listening attentively to the report from a director beside him.

His gaze swept across the room and caught the secretary, who was slightly pursing her lips and glancing furtively in his direction.

He paused almost imperceptibly while listening to the report.

The executive who was giving the report paused for a moment, thinking he had said something wrong.

But Shangqiu Zhu slightly raised his hand, stopping him from speaking. Under the somewhat surprised gazes of several executives, he raised his chin very naturally in her direction.

His voice wasn't loud, but it clearly pierced through the brief silence: "Give it to me."

Yan Shuang quickly stood up, precisely pulled out the budget confirmation form that required his signature from a stack of documents on the table, and handed it to him with both hands.

"Mr. Shang, the final budget amount for Project J needs your final confirmation and approval."

Shangqiu Zhu looked down at her, his gaze lingering on her earlobes, which were redder than usual.

Yan Shuang held her breath, her eyelashes trembling slightly.

Shangqiu Zhu glanced at the number quickly, and without hesitation, signed his name where it was required.

Then I handed the document back to her; the whole process took no more than ten seconds.

Yan Shuang: "...Thank you, President Shang."

Shangqiu Zhu has turned back to the executive and continued the conversation.
