He is so weird
He was so frank that she was speechless. After a long pause, she said loudly, "This is wrong. You have to change!"
The other party showed difficulty: "I have changed a lot..."
Zuo Xiao thought it was ridiculous and sneered, "Let me hear what you changed?"
"I have changed all the points you mentioned just now." Zhuang Yu'an said sincerely:
"I bought you clothes, and deep down I really wanted you to wear them for me to see, but considering you might not like my taste, I decided not to force it..."
"Video calls every morning and evening aren't enough for me. I wish we could always be connected remotely, but I think that's a bit much. I was afraid you'd feel uncomfortable, so I didn't mention it..."
"As for the camera, I wanted to install one in the bedroom, but I decided not to do so considering your privacy..."
"Finally, it's the assistant. I don't want her to follow you around all the time. If you don't want her, then forget it..."
"You're crazy!" Zuo Xiao glared angrily. "You don't change, you just adjusted your plan from super abnormal to abnormal! Do you want to piss me off to death?"
"But a lot of married colleagues I know do the same thing," he said innocently. "Buying things for each other, video chatting when they're not together, installing cameras at home... Isn't that normal?"
Zuo Xiao couldn't help but slam the table, frowning and angrily saying: "So you don't think there is anything wrong with your behavior! Fine, then I won't waste my words with you, goodbye!" After that, he reached out to the screen and ruthlessly cut off the video call.
No matter how many times Zhuang Yu'an called her, she remained unmoved. Finally, she found her phone too noisy and simply turned it off.
After a while, Zhuang Jinghao walked into the study, holding up his phone and said awkwardly: "The call is coming to me..."
Zuo Xiao turned his face away and said, "No."
Zhuang Jinghao hesitated for a moment and said, "My brother said he wants to apologize to you. He knows he was wrong..."
"What's wrong?" Zuo Xiao said coldly.
Zhuang Jinghao put the phone to his ear and said, "Brother, sister-in-law wants to know if you know where you went wrong."
The more she listened, the redder her face became, and she muttered, "I can't say it...you can tell him yourself later." Then she hung up the phone in a hurry.
Zuo Xiao frowned and asked, "What did he say?"
Zhuang Jinghao's face flushed, her eyes flickering. After some mental fortitude, she said, "He said his mistake was... loving you too much, missing you too much... Every day, all he thinks about is you. He wants to know what you're doing, whether you're eating and sleeping well..." The more she spoke, the more cheesy it became. She shook her head and rubbed the goose bumps on her arms.
Zuo Xiao was also disgusted by this, and said with a red face, "Don't try that!"
"That's right!" Zhuang Jinghao pouted and complained, "Brother is getting more and more weird, just like he's been possessed by something in a TV show! I feel like he's so shameless now that even a cannonball can't penetrate him. He actually treats me as a part of your play. How outrageous!"
So the two of them complained about his weird behavior together, and the more they talked, the more they felt that he was completely different from before.
In the past, he was like a pine tree, a bamboo, a mountain, and the ancient Greek god of war...
And now he...
"Like a Husky!" said Zhuang Jinghao.
"It's like a dog-skin plaster!" said Zuo Xiao.
The two fell silent at the same time.
After a while, Zhuang Jinghao said with a sullen face, "It's over. My brother's image has completely collapsed. He's not as charming as before..."
Zuo Xiao nodded in agreement and posed a soul-searching question: "Has he changed, or has he always been like this?"
Zhuang Jing thought about it and said, "Anyway, I haven't seen my brother like this in the past 27 years... If he has always been like this, then he must have hidden it too deeply for too long, right?"
Zuo Xiao thought it made sense and nodded, "That means he has changed."
"Ah..." They both sighed at the same time.
No one expected that the man they'd been complaining about would show up at dinner the next day without warning. He was dragging a suitcase, looking dusty and exhausted, and both of them were stunned.
"Brother!" Zhuang Jinghao threw down his chopsticks and rushed over, "Why did you come back so suddenly?!"
Zhuang Yu'an opened his arms to accept her hug and patted her on the back: "Surprised?"
"Hmm!" Zhuang Jing's face flushed with excitement. Suddenly she thought of something and turned around to look.
Zuo Xiao glanced at her husband, without even lifting her butt, and said indifferently, "You're back." Then she continued to pick up food and eat.
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Zhuang Jinghao hurriedly arranged for her brother to sit down, poured him tea, and prepared the dishes. Seeing him wash his hands and walk all the way to the dining table, his eyes fixed on his wife, Zhuang Jinghao couldn't help but worry for him: Is she still angry?
"Why didn't you tell me in advance that you were coming back? We'll go to the airport to pick you up!" Zhuang Jinghao's forehead was sweating, and he tried hard to liven up the atmosphere.
"If I tell you in advance, it won't be a surprise." Zhuang Yu'an put down the bowl he had just picked up and said with a smile, "I have prepared gifts for you. Come get them after dinner."
Hearing about the gifts, Zhuang Jinghao immediately became excited: "Are there any handicrafts made by Aboriginal people? I've seen them online; their sculptures and pottery are so interesting!"
Zhuang Yu'an blinked and smiled, "Keep it a secret." After that, his eyes drifted to his wife again, observing her carefully, but saw that she had no expression on her face, eating silently, treating him as air.
Aside from someone who remained silent, the meal was quite lively. Zhuang Jinghao chattered non-stop with questions, and Zhuang Yu'an answered them all, occasionally stealing glances at his wife but not daring to initiate a conversation.
After dinner, Zhuang Jinghao finally arrived at the gift-handing moment she had been waiting for. Seeing that Zuo Xiao showed no sign of moving closer, she smiled and took her arm, pulling the reluctant Zuo Xiao to sit on the sofa.
The huge suitcase was placed next to the carpet. Zhuang Yu'an squatted down, unzipped it, and took out maple syrup, ice wine chocolate, and then several handicrafts from the suitcase. He introduced them one by one.
First up are two dreamcatchers made by the Ojibwa natives. They consist of a hand-woven circular net and leather ropes, feathers, and colorful beads. Legend has it that they can filter out nightmares and capture good dreams.
"This is great!" Zhuang Jinghao picked up one and shook it. "I'm going to hang it over my bed so I can have sweet dreams every day!"
Then there were two wooden Indian totem poles, one topped with a thunderbird with outstretched wings, the other with a crow. "Ugly-cute, ugly-cute, hahaha!" she commented.
Next came two plump little Wyandot girls with thick black braids, one in a yellow skirt and yellow headband, the other in a brown skirt and brown headband.
Zhuang Jinghao couldn't let it go at first sight, and kept praising: "This is so cute! I like it so much! Xiaoxiao, baby, which one do you want?" Zuo Xiao said lightly: "All are fine." So she took the one with the yellow skirt without hesitation.
The last one is a wooden carved bird with a round head and a small beak, standing on a log with its tail cocked.
"Huh?" Zhuang Jinghao picked up the bird and placed it in his palm. "Is this the only one?"
The brother smiled slightly and said, "Yes." He looked up at the person next to her and said, "This is for my wife."
Well... Zhuang Jinghao felt relieved in just two seconds, and asked with a smile, "So what's the explanation for this?"
Zhuang Yu'an looked at his wife meaningfully and said, "This is a little bird that landed for the little bear... It was carved on the spot by an old man with a white beard on the street. The time and place are written under the wooden stake."
"Really?" Zhuang Jinghao turned the bird upside down to examine it with great interest, then asked, "Where's the bear? I only see the wooden stake."
Zhuang Yu'an cleared his throat and said, "The little bear made a mistake and was punished by being turned into a wooden stake."
"Pfft..." Zhuang Jinghao couldn't help laughing, thinking that her brother's way of apologizing was really unique. Turning around, she saw her sister-in-law pursed her lips, halfway to laughing.
She stuffed the bird into her sister-in-law's hand, then picked up her own gift and said with a giggle, "I'm going back to my room first!"
After she left, there were only two people left in the huge living room.
Zuo Xiao threw the bird onto the coffee table, then sat with his arms folded, his face turned to the side. Zhuang Yu'an cautiously sat over and called softly, "Wife..."
She didn't react, but her ears turned red.
He saw it clearly, and his heart was filled with infinite tenderness and sweetness. It turned out that he was not the only one who was sick with longing, unable to sleep at night, and had not seen him for many days. His wife was also thinking about him. Otherwise, how could her ears turn red when she heard him call her "wife"?
He had an idea in his mind, so he bravely went over and hugged her tightly.
"What are you doing!" She struggled with a red face. He put his arms around her tighter and whispered in her ear, "Nothing, just you."
With a scream, she flew into the air and was picked up by him and carried straight to the third floor.
Two hours later.
Zuo Xiao looked at the man sleeping soundly beside her, her temper gone. She had never seen him so tired before; he probably hadn't slept on the plane back. She felt a twinge of distress, for his exhaustion from the long journey, and a tinge of pride, for having completely subdued him.
Thinking that her cell phone and gifts were still on the first floor, she got out of bed.
The living room was quiet. Her cell phone was on the sofa, the gift was on the coffee table, and next to it was his open suitcase.
The suitcase was half empty, its contents neatly stacked. The zippered compartment was bulging, its four right angles held in place by a boxy object larger than an A4 sheet of paper.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in her mind: Is there another surprise?
Humph, why not give him a sneak peek and ruin his plans for a surprise? Thinking of this, she curled her lips and squatted down to unzip the compartment.
There were actually two square objects inside. The larger one, with a pale yellow velvet cover, looked thick and heavy, like a photo album. The smaller one inside was a loose-leaf notebook with a blue cover.
In this paperless age, who would carry such a bulky photo album and notebook when traveling? She laughed at him in her heart, thinking he was old-fashioned, and casually picked up the photo album and flipped it open.
Suddenly, everything went dark.
Damn! Are these two guys dating or something?!
All he saw were her pictures, with handwritten times, places, and quotes underneath. If she hadn't taken them out of his suitcase herself, she'd have thought they were the work of his ex-ex, Zhou Zhihui! It seems these two have surprisingly similar tastes...
She flipped through the pages, discovering photos from before she and Zhuang Yu'an even met. Some of them she had no recollection of, and who knows where he'd found them. Thinking of how he'd carry them with him even on international business trips, and how many times he'd looked at them on a daily basis, she couldn't help but sneer, feeling embarrassed for him.
Forget it, I’ll just pretend I don’t know… She put down the photo album and thought compassionately.
His eyes turned to the blue-covered notebook. Just as he picked it up, he heard quick footsteps coming from the stairs.
Turning around, she saw a man in home clothes walking towards her with a smile.
"Why are you up?" He asked in a relaxed tone as he sat down beside her.
For some reason, Zuo Xiao felt that the curve of his mouth was a little stiff. Looking closely, he saw that his neck was stiff and his forehead was covered with sweat.
"I haven't gotten my gift yet." She pointed to the photo album on the coffee table and said with a sly smile, "Is this an Easter egg?"
His gaze shifted from her face to the album, lingering for half a second on the blue notebook, which she keenly noticed. He cared deeply about this notebook, she silently concluded in her heart.
The next second, the other party suddenly stepped forward, pushed her down on the sofa, and pressed down her wrists.
"This is my medicine." He breathed into her ear. "Every night when I miss you so much that I can't sleep, I rely on this to get through it."
A shock-like sensation ran from his ears to his spine, and Zuo Xiao shuddered, his entire body going limp. After a moment, he mentally scolded: "What a bastard, what a dirty talk!"
Zhuang Yu'an buried his head in kissing her, licking, sucking, entwining, biting, and rubbing, using all his skills. Although she was in a trance, she always kept a trace of her mind on his hands.
Sure enough, just as she was groaning in a daze, the notebook in her hand was snatched away. Zuo Xiao suddenly regained consciousness, grabbed his face, moved away, and shouted, "Give me back my notebook!"
Zhuang Yu'an was so shocked that he didn't care about controlling his expression. His eyes were filled with astonishment and panic. Although it was only a brief second, she captured it accurately, further confirming her speculation.
There must be something shameful in this notebook!
