Chapter 138 Negotiating Terms

"That's right," said another elder named Heiye. "Even if you don't become the leader, you still have to occupy an elder position in the tribe. We elders also have to have a say in the tribe."

Ming looked embarrassed: "Is this okay?" This was not what he said when he chased the people of the two tribes and asked for a merger.

"What's wrong with this? Didn't you say it? Their leader clearly said that he wanted more than a hundred of us to increase the number of people in his tribe. If you don't mention it now, when will you mention it?" Elder Hui said.

Hearing Elder Hui's somewhat aggressive tone, Kuangfeng and Chen looked at each other and frowned.

Elders Hui and Heiye had been favored by the old leader while he was still alive. After his death, they supported Ming and wanted to elevate him to the position of leader. Ming, in turn, showed respect for them. Even when they sometimes spoke or acted a bit too harshly, Ming tolerated it, unwilling to offend them.

After hesitating for a moment, Ming said, "Okay, I'll talk to them now."

Seeing that he was about to leave, Elder Hui grabbed his arm and ordered Kuangfeng, "Go and call Shu over."

Kuangfeng glanced at Ming and saw that he had no objection. He turned and went to the raft, found a random person from the Dragon Tribe, and asked him to call Shu over, saying that he had something to say.

The person he caught was Liang.

Liang had just heard these people shouting and blaming Shu. He didn't say much, just nodded in agreement. He turned around and shouted to Shu, "Shu, Ming sent someone to call you over. He said he has something to say."

These words were heard not only by Shu and Man, Liushui and others who were standing not far from him, but also by the people on several nearby rafts.

Because of Shan's relationship with Qiao Yu, Shu, though only a squad leader, held a different status within the tribe than other squad leaders. He didn't consider his status lower than Man and Liushui's; they simply oversaw different matters. If Liang hadn't come up with this plan, and if he had told him privately, he might have gone alone.

Liang was shouting loudly now, so that everyone could hear him. Shu felt that it would be inappropriate not to call Shang Man.

"Man, come with me and see what they want to say."

Man nodded and followed the tree.

The man next to Liang nudged him with his arm and whispered, "What were you trying to do by yelling so loudly just now? Do you have a problem with the tree?"

"How is that possible? It's just that Shu isn't as clever as Man. I'm afraid he'll fall into the trap set by the Shanyin tribe and cause our tribe to suffer. It's only reassuring that Man, who's so cunning, will deal with them."

Hearing Liang's words, the man laughed and sighed, "Hey, do you think Yu really put the saplings on the raft? If only Yu had come in time. Even if Man went to talk to them, we'd still be worried about getting hurt."

"That's right," Liang agreed, looking up towards the valley tribe. Suddenly, his eyes lit up and he patted his companion's shoulder. "Look, look, there's a black dot over there, getting closer and closer. Is it Yu?"

The man also looked over there and saw someone walking towards him. However, he was too far away to see who it was.

He quickly told Liu Shui.

Liushui was also very surprised and told Hanzi and Liang: "You go to Yingying and see if it's Yu. I'll go to Ming's place first to check the situation and tell them to wait until Yu arrives before discussing anything."

Here, Man and Shu went to the Shanyin tribe. Elder Hui looked at Man with dissatisfaction and said, "We only want to talk to Shu."

When Liang was yelling, Shu was still a little dissatisfied. But now he was extremely glad that Man came with him.

Why did the Shanyin tribe insist on talking to him? Wasn't it obvious they were taking advantage of his lack of intelligence and trying to trick him?

He is not stupid, how could he fall for this?

He said, "Man is the chief's assistant officer in our tribe, second only to Yu in status. This means that when Yu is not available, he can make decisions on behalf of the chief."

Everyone in the Shanyin tribe was very surprised, especially Ming, Kuangfeng and others.

They had been setting up stalls together for so long, dealing with the people of the valley tribe for so long, and traveling together for three or four days, but this was the first time they knew Man's identity.

The valley tribe is really well hidden.

"If you think I'm not qualified to talk, it doesn't matter. Yu will be here soon. How about we wait until she gets here?" Man asked.

"No, no, no, it's the same if I talk to you two." Elder Hui said quickly.

Although he had never dealt with Qiao Yu directly, he had long heard from Ming about the confrontation between Ming, Kuangfeng, and Qiao Yu. He instinctively felt that Yu was a powerful figure. Otherwise, how could a boy of fourteen or fifteen have such obedience? Furthermore, he had quietly annexed the Stone Tribe, and the people of the Stone Tribe were so obedient, showing no intention of using them to cause trouble.

So they had originally planned to find the most honest Shu and negotiate the terms before Qiao Yu arrived. Shu was Yu's uncle, and Yu probably wanted to protect his uncle's face. It would be difficult for Yu to deny what Shu had agreed to.

Now the situation has changed, with Man, a man of higher status than Shu, arriving. But now that it's come to this, we need to talk. It's better than talking to Yu, right?

Elder Hui winked at Ming.

Ming had no choice but to bring up the few demands they had just discussed: "We have just discussed it. If you want us to join your tribe, you have to agree to a few of our conditions."

Mitsuru didn't say anything, but glanced at the tree.

The tree asked, "What are the conditions?"

Elder Hui spoke first, "First, we must live in a separate area. Our food, lodging, and shelter must be no worse than yours. We will only obey Ming's orders. Ming and a few of us elders must become tribal elders. All tribal matters, big or small, must be decided after consultation with us."

Liushui walked to the side and heard Ming's words. His brows couldn't help but frown.

Aren’t the demands made by these people from the Shanyin tribe too excessive?

What does it mean that all matters, big or small, must be discussed with them before decisions are made? What does it mean that they only follow clear orders?

Who do they think they are?

Shu Heman's expressions also looked extremely unhappy.

Man wanted to reject it outright. He knew that Yu would never agree to such a condition. But he was not Yu after all, and he didn't know what Yu was thinking.

"We can't make the decision on this matter. We have to wait for Yu to come before we can give you an answer." He said with a cold face.

"What's wrong with you? You are a bunch of grown men, but you have to wait for a kid to make the decision. Are you men?" Elder Hui shouted angrily.

"What kind of kid? She is our leader, you should respect her." Everyone in the Dragon Tribe was extremely angry.
