Chapter 8 Riding on a Tiger

On the low hill to the west, a group of forty or fifty people looked around like frightened birds, and only dared to move forward when they saw that there was no movement around.

This group of people are the men of Qiao Yu's tribe.

Usually they act in groups of three or four, but the presence of a tiger on the mountain made everyone nervous. After discussing for a whole day yesterday, they decided to act together first, and then go hunting separately after making sure that the tiger is no longer on the mountain.

The tiger was not originally on these hills. It must have fought with other animals and fled to these hills. And the ones fighting it must have been wolves.

There were tigers and wolves nearby, and even though there were forty or fifty people acting together, everyone was still very nervous.

Today they did not dare to go to the eastern mountain where they encountered the tiger yesterday, but instead came to the western mountain where the hill was lower and there were fewer prey.

“Ouch…”

The leaves fell with a rustling sound.

Everyone's expression suddenly changed: "Tiger!"

"What's going on? Wasn't the tiger in the east mountain yesterday? Why is it here in the west?" asked another person.

"What's so strange about this? This tiger isn't from the mountains where we used to hunt, otherwise we would have been in danger long ago. If it can run over there, it can certainly run over here."

Hearing this, everyone's faces looked very ugly.

Today, they had gone out in a large group, but after walking for half a day, they had only hunted a few rabbits and pheasants. If they couldn't hunt any more big ones, they wouldn't have enough food to eat today, let alone store food.

"Awoo..." Another tiger roar came from the same direction as before.

"Everyone, don't panic," Blue Wolf shouted. "Our trip today wasn't in vain. The tiger was injured the day before yesterday, so it must have returned to its den to recuperate. It won't stray far. That mountain where it roared just now must be the tiger's den. It must have gone to the eastern hilltop the day before yesterday in pursuit of prey."

"Now that we've figured out where its lair is, there's no need to worry. We haven't encountered any tigers in the eastern hills for years, so it doesn't usually go there. From now on, you can hunt in the eastern hills without worrying about encountering tigers."

"As for the wolves, they probably aren't from these hills. They went back to their own hills after the fight. Otherwise, we would have seen some traces of them."

After hearing what he said, everyone's expressions became relaxed.

Seeing this, Qinglang was delighted and continued, "But for safety's sake, it's better not to spread out too much. I think we should just split into three teams. What do you think?"

Shan was injured, and the tribe must elect a new leader. His father, Huo, had tried to persuade him yesterday, but he couldn't convince those stubborn old men. Hei had only brute strength, but was a complete fool. And a leader was supposed to lead everyone on hunting trips and command them.

Today is his chance to show himself.

If the majority of the young and strong men in the tribe support him to be the leader, then the matter will be settled.

"Yes, I think what Qinglang said makes sense," said Shanshi, who was on good terms with Qinglang. "Splitting into three teams is also a safe approach. After a while, when things are calm, we can go hunting with the same team size as before."

This approach is indeed the best solution at the moment, and the vast majority of people nodded: "Okay."

"I think it's good."

Only a few people who had a very good personal relationship with Shan and looked down on Huo and Qinglang's behavior looked at each other without saying a word.

The mountain was crippled, and the tribe must elect a new leader. Beneath the mountain was Black, and beneath Black was Blue Wolf.

Although the strong are respected, Hei is obviously not the best candidate for the leader. So the position of the tribal leader will fall to Qinglang.

Although they strongly disapproved, they were not strong enough and had no better candidates to defeat Qinglang, so their opposition was useless.

Seeing that everyone agreed with him, Qinglang's smile grew even brighter. "Then I suggest we head to the eastern mountains. It's still a long day before dark, so instead of wasting time here, why not go to the eastern mountains and hunt in three teams?"

No one has any objection.

So the group came down from the mountain and prepared to cross another mountain and go up the mountain to the east.

But before they reached the foot of the mountain, everyone's faces changed, and someone screamed out in surprise: "Tiger!"

The people walking behind quickly stretched their necks to look ahead and saw a tiger's head sticking out from the bushes.

Everyone was terrified and was about to turn around and run when they saw a man appear along with the tiger's body. The man was riding on the tiger, looking very leisurely.

Everyone was stunned.

Could this tiger be domesticated by humans?

Just as this thought came to mind, someone whispered, "Yu?"

Everyone looked closely and saw that the person riding on the tiger's back was none other than Shan's daughter Yu.

Qiao Yu originally planned to bring the tiger to the vicinity of the tribe, wait for Qinglang and his men to come back from hunting, and then kill it in front of them, so that Qinglang would not complain later and say that the tiger was injured by them and died, and it was not her who killed it at all.

As the saying goes, there can't be two tigers on one mountain. Tigers are very territorial animals. With this tiger around, there's probably no other tiger within a hundred miles. Even if she wanted to prove her ability to kill tigers, she might not be able to find another one.

It's very troublesome.

So she planned to kill him in public.

But I didn't expect that I would meet this group of men from the tribe just after walking down two mountains.

She smiled brightly and waved to everyone, "Hi, what a coincidence to meet you all here."

Everyone was panicking and still wondering whether to run away: "..."

Shanyan, who was standing in the front and couldn't escape, asked timidly: "Yu, this, this is..." He didn't dare to point at the tiger, but just raised his chin slightly, his teeth chattering as he spoke, and he couldn't finish his words.

Qiao Yu's smile became brighter.

She patted the tiger on her body and said, "My father was bitten by this tiger the day before yesterday. To avenge him, I went to find him and pulled him out of his lair."

Everyone: “…”

"How, how is this possible?" Qinglang stammered.

His words also expressed everyone's thoughts.

How is that possible?

Yu Ke, who they had watched grow up, was just an ordinary little girl in the tribe, only prettier than the others. Because of this, and the fact that she was the daughter of the chieftain, Shan, the young men in the tribe secretly wanted to marry her.

But why is she here now, riding a tiger?

The thing she is riding on is a tiger, right?
