Chapter 110 The Art of Massacre
On the battlefield where the UN and ASA clashed head-on, Verne and Balzac fought fiercely, each of Balzac's missed attacks creating a trench in the ground. Meanwhile, Verne's wind blades tore everything in their path to shreds.
Although Balzac now has a total of six limbs attacking at the same time, his mobility is far inferior to that of Verne in the air. Even though Verne doesn't have time to charge up and can't move at supersonic speed, he hasn't hit the target many times.
Balzac's few successful attacks were all blocked by the "Deep Sea Wanderer" air wall, which was harder than alloy, and none of them hit Verne.
In contrast, each of Verne's attacks could leave wounds on Balzac's body, the deepest of which even cut open half of Balzac's chest, and the shallowest of which cut Balzac's arm down to the bone of an ordinary person.
Although it seemed that Balzac was facing an absolute headwind, those terrible injuries didn't linger on him for more than a few seconds. His bones, torn apart by the storm, collided and reformed, a process that required only a negligible amount of his strength.
In contrast, although Verne appeared to be unaffected, the constantly fluctuating power readings in the resonance chamber proved that he was not actually at ease at this moment.
The air wall created to defend against Balzac's attack was far too power-consuming.
The two are currently locked in a protracted tug-of-war, neither able to gain the upper hand. So they can only continue this seemingly intense but actually tedious and boring process of mutual attrition.
In comparison, the battle between Pu Songling and Lewis was much more intense.
Lewis's summoned mantises effectively countered Pu Songling's "strange creatures." Although a mantis's forelimbs couldn't actually be as sharp as a knife, their immense strength, among insects, and barbed forelimbs still easily tore apart the paper "strange creatures."
The thick exoskeleton of the insect blocked most of the attacks from the "strange creatures." The paper general could not effectively kill the mantises and could only attack them from the joints.
Lewis stayed next to Fabre, with three mantises surrounding them in defense. However, their offensive capabilities were insufficient. The "strange creatures" possessed considerable speed and numbers, so Lewis didn't have a chance to use his abilities for the time being.
Lewis peeked out from among the somewhat intimidating giant mantises and carefully observed the situation on the field.
Fabre's four mantises were killed, but Pu Songling's "Strange Things" were reduced by about one-third compared to the beginning.
"It looks like you're in the lead, but who knows if he has any backup plans..." Lewis said, pulling back and adjusting his hat. "The number of reinforcements is limited. If there are fewer 'people' later, I'll try to break through."
Fabre nodded solemnly: "Okay."
As he spoke, Fabre tossed out a specially made eco-bottle.
The ecosphere landed and shattered, and dozens of ants, each the size of a large dog, gathered around the fragments, creating a somewhat chaotic scene.
The chaos didn't last long. Soon, as if on command, the ants charged towards the paper generals. Although smaller than the praying mantis, their powerful mandibles acted like real scissors, and Pu Songling's paper generals suffered heavy losses in a single encounter.
Pu Songling stared blankly at the scene before him (in any case, no expression could be seen), then quickly took out his phone and snapped a picture of the ants.
Fabre: ...
What is this person doing?
"Oh, so this is an army ant, right?" Since Fabre had no commentary this time, Pu Songling silently flipped through the pages and closed his phone with satisfaction. "A regular in horror movies, its bite force is top-notch... Sounds a bit tricky."
Fabre, observing the starkly different casualty rates on both sides and the ever-disappearing paper generals on Pu Songling's side, raised an eyebrow: "Terror is more than just troublesome, isn't it?"
“Hmm…that’s true.” Pu Songling thought for a moment, “Then let’s add a few more people.”
Then, Fabre and Lewis watched as the large, fat paper figure next to Pu Songling pulled out two printers from its belly, and then pulled out a battery pack.
To be honest, this was something we really didn't expect, so much so that the two of them didn't even realize what was happening at first.
Then, after the two of them realized what was happening...
"What the fk!?"
"Are you kidding me??"
Pu Songling himself stood in front of the printer using his supernatural abilities, while Fabre and Lewis could only stare helplessly as sheets of white paper were stuffed into the printer and then soldiers with supernatural abilities emerged from it.
To be fair, Pu Songling's efficiency wasn't particularly high. But this kind of last-minute troop buildup was really frustrating.
Although he was carrying nearly a dozen cans of army ants, Fabre felt a chill run down his spine when he saw the boxes of printer paper next to Pu Songling, which could almost fill a bookshelf.
He wasn't really sure if he could outlast Pu Songling in the end. After all, it seemed much easier to find things like army ants and blank paper, which were in limited quantities.
Lewis was also a little flustered, but his extensive experience in dealing with enemies prevented him from losing his composure like Fabre did.
He knew very well that summoning ability users could not summon indefinitely. Even if it wasn't about maintaining the type of summoned creature, constantly using the ability itself was consuming the ability user's stamina.
At Pu Songling's age, even if he were still vigorous, he couldn't compete with the young. Only by having the patience to fight could Fabre ultimately win.
But what they lack most right now is time.
They were facing only two opponents; the whereabouts of the rest of the UN were unknown. Their primary objective should have been to eliminate their target as quickly as possible and then go to support the others.
The UN's objective in this regard should be the opposite of theirs; the fact that only two people came to them indicates that their goal was simply to delay.
The idea behind the Joint Major Crimes Unit being divided into three groups was to create a mobile defense system that was as comprehensive as possible and supported by each other. If the UN attempted to break out from one direction but failed to achieve a decisive victory, it would quickly find itself surrounded and in a dilemma.
If they are confident that they can stall them here, it means they have other, more specific, or better goals.
Knowing all this, Lewis looked at the insects and strange creatures in front of him, whose numbers were gradually reaching a balance, and said with a heavy heart, "Use tanks."
Fabre frowned, muttered a few complaints, and then picked up a formal ecosphere from the ground.
Inside the terrarium, two rhinoceros beetles strolled leisurely.
"Ready..." Lewis turned his back to Pu Songling and assumed a starting position.
Pu Songling sensed something was wrong and sent out several paper generals to give chase.
Fabre opened the eco-box and released two rhinoceros beetles.
"start!"
