Chapter 6 006
Don Quixote—of course, his real name is Cervantes, and his superpower is called "Don Quixote." This guy who stands in lava spouting cheesy nonsense is actually a guy who fits the UN tradition very well—that is to say, he is a wanted criminal.
As a Spaniard who loves to dream (emphasis added), Cervantes had extensive experience in military service—and even more extensive experience in efficiently seeking justice after being discharged from the army and falsely accused for various reasons. After being repeatedly discharged from the army, falsely accused, and having his hand cut off, Cervantes, who loved his country and his people, successfully developed a severe case of paranoia.
Cruel and battered by reality, Cervantes found immense courage in donning his armor, transforming into the great hero Don Quixote and wandering the land to right wrongs—his greatest passion. But when this passion gradually morphed into a mental illness… even Cervantes himself couldn't control the actions of Don Quixote.
Thus, poor Don Quixote and Cervantes were both added to the European Special Administration of Supernatural Security's statistical list for numerous acts of disturbing public order (this is inexplicable; Don Quixote's very existence is the problem), attacking local officials without cause (not strictly speaking corrupt officials), and committing heinous massacres (local thugs).
In fact, given the sheer number and scope of Don Quixote's crimes, as well as his remarkably efficient operations, he was among the most wanted individuals in the ASA (Ability Safety Administration of Europe), codenamed "Stained Silver."
Cervantes himself had no objection; every time he heard the nickname, he would just cover his face and pretend to be dead. Don Quixote, on the other hand, would always make a big fuss about being the "Silver Knight" every time he heard the nickname.
But the more important point is that Don Quixote is a fierce man who, even though he is wanted by all of Europe and has never concealed his whereabouts, can still walk the streets and do justice.
Don Quixote's exceptional mobility and formidable combat prowess relative to his individual abilities made him an extremely tough nut to crack.
A few years ago, I bumped into UN while doing some chivalrous things, and then we miraculously clicked on the same thought process. I'm currently traveling around with UN.
According to him, he found a suitable order of knights.
Cervantes... what else could Cervantes say? He could only hide in his armor and shout "666" to get by.
Right now, this formidable figure who can withstand the entire ASA's pursuit unscathed and still be alive and kicking... is struggling to trek through the lava pool.
Or to put it another way, they are pretending to be struggling through a lava pool.
This guy can walk on water using only his calves, and lava, which is several times more viscous than water, is more than enough for him to use as a point of leverage—enough to jump more than ten meters to the shore.
However, the lava that Romain Rolland had just unleashed wasn't very hot (for Don Quixote) and was also quite shallow (again, for Don Quixote). So, the dim-witted Don Quixote ignored the enemy opposite him and began to stage a scene of "a brave knight overcoming dangers by traversing mountains and rivers."
It can't be said that he ignored the enemy; he was indeed heading towards the enemy. But Don Quixote's acting... to say he didn't act at all would be unfair, but it couldn't be any better; it was only at the level of a town-level drama troupe.
The key point is the drama troupe.
His acting style is quite exaggerated, even when he's acting seriously.
Therefore, there was a reason why the three members of the Port Mafia across the harbor looked so grim...
Looking at Don Quixote, who had a determined (stiff) face and occasionally shouted to add drama to his role, even the most expressionless Ryunosuke Akutagawa showed obvious anger.
Ironically, Romain Rolland, who knew Don Quixote's wicked temper all too well, had no intention of pulling Don Quixote ashore or removing the lava—Don Quixote's acting was so bad that he not only messed up his colleagues, but even he (Cervantes) messed up himself, so it was best not to join in the fun.
However, Rashomon and the Golden Demon were useless against this monstrous brute force. With such a powerful weapon looming over them, they couldn't just leave it and go back. But attacking first would be very inappropriate, which put them in a very awkward position…
With a blank expression, he watched as Don Quixote slowly jumped up from the edge of the lava pool (the lava in front of him had dried up, so he couldn't continue acting). Among the group, the only one capable of beating Don Quixote up, Chuuya Nakahara, began to clench his fists and prepare to go for it.
Shaking off the lava from his legs, Don Quixote used the two flashes of light beneath his knight's helmet—which the three members of the Port Mafia guessed were Don Quixote's eyes or similar structures—to survey the area before raising his lance and charging directly at Chuuya Nakahara.
Without flinching, Chuuya Nakahara rushed forward and kicked Don Quixote's lance, causing Don Quixote to pause slightly. Then, Chuuya immediately flipped over and kicked Don Quixote hard in the chest, leaving him completely unguarded.
Don Quixote, who had been struck by Chuuya Nakahara's earth-shattering kick, staggered back two steps with remarkable stability, just like a theatrical performer. Then, with an exaggerated sense of surprise, he shouted, "I never expected to find such a master in such a remote place!"
Chuuya Nakahara's veins started throbbing.
"You idiot! If you're going to be my opponent, then you'd better have some self-awareness!" Chuuya Nakahara was so angry at Don Quixote's irreverent attitude that his hat almost fell off. "Since you can see I'm the real formidable opponent, then you'd better take this seriously!"
This time, Don Quixote was truly shocked. "What! You're the strongest knight in this area!"
Chuuya Nakahara paused for a moment, then roared back with an even more ferocious expression.
"Did you just pick any opponent? I thought you had a good eye for talent!"
After Chuuya Nakahara finished speaking, Don Quixote's expression turned serious, and he pointed at Koyo Ozaki, who was holding a sword and ready for battle—"When there are many enemies, a knight should not fight a lady first."
Chuuya Nakahara's complexion improved slightly.
Then Don Quixote pointed back at Ryunosuke Akutagawa, who had his hands in his pockets, and said, "A knight should not fight the sick when facing numerous enemies!"
Akutagawa Ryunosuke, pale-faced: ...
Chuuya Nakahara: ...Suddenly, I don't know what expression to make.
Ryunosuke Akutagawa remained expressionless as Rashomon indeed pierced the ground almost instantly, emerging from the ground surrounding Don Quixote.
Don Quixote exclaimed in horror, "What kind of sorcery is this!"
Despite his loud shouts, Don Quixote swiftly swung his lance, nearly creating a sonic boom, and instantly shattered all the Rashomon gates that had appeared around him.
The Port Mafia members looked even uglier, and Romain Rolland sighed in exasperation.
—With Don Quixote's fighting prowess, how much use could he be if he had a normal brain?
Putting everything else aside, Don Quixote, whose fighting prowess was off the charts but whose brain was completely muddled, saw that the group around him wasn't cooperating with his performance, and once again charged forward with a loud "Wah-yah!"
Having witnessed firsthand how strong this mentally unstable guy was during their previous exchange, the group was speechless as they charged forward—using methods including, but not limited to, having Ryunosuke Akutagawa throw Don Quixote high into the air and then have Chuuya Nakahara kick him away.
Unfortunately, the thick-skinned Don Quixote was completely unfazed by the attack. After being kicked away, he got up and continued charging forward, yelling and screaming – his return was accompanied by an almost sonic boom. However, he immediately slowed down upon getting close, then raised his lance and began to "fake fight" with the others.
Just as the three members of the Port Mafia were fighting fiercely, a chilling sensation suddenly covered their eyes.
Romain Rolland, who had been watching this area, seemed to sense something and looked towards the grassy area that had been messed up by "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Don Quixote".
In the shadows, a tall, slender figure wearing rather plain black-rimmed glasses, with no visible facial features, nodded to Romain Rolland.
Only then did Romain Rolland, who had been feeling helpless, finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Cervantes' partner... has finally arrived.
