The Truth Emerges
Lin Yu and Su Na were still in shock in the office building. They were gasping for breath, their hearts still beating violently from the terrifying experience, as if trying to break free from the restraints in their chests. Sweat soaked their clothes, and their hair was messy from tension and fear.
"Lin Yu, what should we do next?" Su Na's voice was weak, like a candle in the wind, ready to go out at any moment. Her eyes were filled with helplessness and fear. Her hands clutched the corners of her clothes tightly, her knuckles turning white from the strain. Her body was still shaking, as if she had just walked out of an ice cellar.
Lin Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. His chest heaved violently as he tried to calm his fear. "Let's sort out our thoughts first. That mysterious shadow, the teacher's diary, and all the clues we've found must be connected." His voice trembled, but his eyes revealed a firmness. He knew they couldn't retreat now; they had to find the truth.
They reread the teacher's diary, the yellowed pages feeling as if they weighed a thousand pounds. Every word was like a key, trying to unlock the secrets hidden within.
"Look at this paragraph. The female teacher mentioned that she heard strange noises in the school basement." Suna pointed to a line of words in the diary. Her voice trembled violently, and her fingers trembled slightly. Her eyes were fixed on the line of words, as if she could see some clues from them.
Lin Yu's eyes lit up, as if he saw a ray of light in the darkness. "Maybe the basement is the key." There was a hint of hope in his voice, but more of a fear of the unknown.
The two decided to go to the basement to find out. The entrance to the basement was behind the school's warehouse. It was a dark and damp corner with moss growing on the walls and water stains on the ground. A pungent smell filled the air, making people feel nauseous.
As soon as they entered the basement, they heard a faint cry, which seemed to come from far away, yet seemed to be right next to their ears.
"Who is crying?" Su Na's voice trembled, her eyes looked around in horror, and her body leaned towards Lin Yu involuntarily. Her heartbeat accelerated instantly, as if it was about to jump out of her throat.
Lin Yu clenched the flashlight tightly in his hand, the light faint in the darkness. "Don't be afraid, it might be the wind or some other natural sound." Although he said this, he knew in his heart that this crying was not ordinary. His forehead was covered with sweat, and his palms were also wet.
But they all knew in their hearts that this crying was not ordinary. It seemed to carry endless sorrow and pain, making people shudder.
As they went deeper into the basement, the cries grew clearer, and the temperature around them seemed to drop. A chill rose from the soles of their feet, gradually spreading throughout their bodies. Every step felt like stepping into an ice cellar.
Suddenly, a figure flashed past their eyes.
"Ah!" Suna screamed, her voice echoing in the basement with endless fear. Her legs went weak and she almost collapsed to the ground.
Lin Yu quickly shone his flashlight over there. The light quickly swept through the darkness, but he saw nothing. Only darkness, endless darkness.
"Calm down, Suna. We can't let fear defeat us." Lin Yu comforted Suna. In fact, his own heartbeat was almost out of control. His voice was trembling, but he knew that they had to remain calm at this time. "Maybe it's just our illusion."
Su Na held onto Lin Yu's arm tightly, as if it was her only lifeline in the darkness. "Lin Yu, I'm really scared. Let's go back." Her voice was filled with tears, and her eyes were full of tears.
Lin Yu gritted his teeth and said, "No, we have come this far and cannot give up halfway. We must find the truth." His eyes were firm. Although his heart was filled with fear, he knew that they could not retreat.
Just then, they discovered a hidden room. The door was half-open, and a faint light shone from inside.
"What is this?" Suna asked tremblingly.
Lin Yu took a deep breath and said, "I don't know, but let's go and see."
They approached the door cautiously, from which the crying and the cold air seemed to emanate.
Lin Yu slowly pushed open the door, and a stale smell hit him. The room was very simply furnished, with only a worn-out table and a chair. On the table were some documents and photos.
Lin Yu picked up a photo, which showed a female teacher and a strange man.
"Who is this?" Suna asked.
Lin Yu frowned, "I don't know, but this may be an important clue."
Just then, they heard footsteps, which were getting closer and closer, as if they were going to swallow them up.
"Oh no, someone is coming!" Lin Yu pulled Su Na to hide under the table.
The footsteps stopped at the door, followed by a low voice.
"They must be here, find them!"
Lin Yu and Su Na's hearts instantly rose to their throats. They covered their mouths tightly, not daring to make a sound.
Footsteps gradually entered the room and they could feel the person hovering around them.
"Come out, I know you are here!"
Lin Yu and Suna's bodies kept shaking, and fear had already enveloped them tightly...
