The Mysterious Test
The deep whistling sound echoed through the cave like a demon's roar, making Lin Yu, Suna, and the principal's hearts leap into their throats. The whistling sound weaved through the narrow cave, hitting the stone walls and bouncing back, forming wave after wave of terrifying sound waves.
Su Na grabbed Lin Yu's arm tightly and asked in a trembling voice, "What's that sound?" Her face was pale, her eyes were wide open, and she was filled with extreme fear. Her fingers dug deep into Lin Yu's sleeve, as if it was her only lifeline in this terrifying moment.
Lin Yu tried to calm himself. Even though his heartbeat was pounding like a drum, he feigned composure and soothed, "Don't be afraid. It might just be the wind." However, his voice trembled, betraying his inner unease. He quickly scanned the cave, trying to find the source of the sound, but he could see nothing but darkness and the flickering candlelight.
The principal surveyed his surroundings warily, his brow furrowed, his eyes filled with caution. He whispered, "Everyone, be careful! There's something strange about this place. We might be in danger." His voice was low and serious, as if reminding everyone to prepare for the worst.
At this moment, the old man slowly put down the jade and carving knife in his hands and stood up. His movements were slow and steady, as if carrying an invisible majesty. His face was deeply wrinkled by time, each wrinkle like a story, each story full of vicissitudes. His eyes were calm and profound, as if he could see through their inner fears, but also with a subtle hint of pity.
"Why have you come here?" The old man's voice was deep and powerful, as if it came from ancient times. His eyes stared straight at them, making them feel an invisible pressure.
Lin Yu stepped forward and said respectfully: "Old man, we have heard the legends of you and other old men, and have come here specially to find out the truth. We are full of curiosity about your experience and this mysterious land, and hope to get some inspiration from you." His voice was sincere and firm. Although his heart was full of fear, his eyes revealed a desire for knowledge and truth.
The old man sneered, "The truth? It's not easily found. Kunlun Mountain is full of dangers and unknowns. You shouldn't have come." His laughter echoed through the cave, chilling people's blood. A hint of helplessness and sadness flashed in his eyes, as if he was recalling those who had paid a heavy price for pursuing the truth.
Lin Yu said firmly: "But we are not afraid of difficulties. We only want to understand the secrets of you and this land. We believe that there is a meaning behind every legend, and every secret is worth revealing." He looked into the old man's eyes without flinching, showing his determination and courage.
The old man was silent for a moment, his eyes darting back and forth between the three of them, as if assessing their resolve and strength. Then he said, "If you really want to know, you'll need to pass my test." His voice was filled with a hint of majesty and irresistible power.
"What test?" Suna asked nervously. Her voice trembled slightly, and she was clearly worried about the unknown test.
The old man pointed to the depths of the cave and said, "There is a stone door there, and behind the door is a mysterious space. You have to stay in there for one night. If you can come out safely, I will tell you what you want to know." His fingers were long and dry, pointing to the depths of the darkness, which made people shudder.
The three of them exchanged glances, their eyes filled with hesitation and determination. Lin Yu's eyes gleamed with a sense of adventure; he knew this was a rare opportunity, one he couldn't easily pass up. Suna's eyes were filled with fear and uneasiness, but with the encouragement of Lin Yu and the principal, she nodded. The principal's eyes revealed a deep consideration; he understood this was a huge challenge, but it could also hold the key to solving the mystery.
Finally, they decided to accept the test. As they slowly approached the stone door, a chilling air rushed towards them. It felt like it came from a thousand-year-old glacier, icy and piercing, instantly penetrating their clothes and reaching their bones.
"Everyone, hold hands and don't separate," Lin Yu said. His voice trembled slightly in the cold air, but he remained firm.
They cautiously entered the stone door. Inside, it was pitch black and eerily silent. The darkness, like thick ink, enveloped them tightly, making it almost impossible to breathe. Their footsteps echoed in the silence, becoming exceptionally clear.
Lin Yu held a flashlight in his hand, its faint light flickering in the darkness, as if it would be swallowed by the darkness at any moment. Water droplets from the wall dripped onto their shoulders, making a crisp sound that seemed particularly abrupt in this silent space.
"This... this place is so scary." Suna's voice was filled with tears and her body kept shaking.
"Don't be afraid, Suna, we will definitely get through this." Lin Yu comforted.
The principal said nothing, his mind seemed focused on observing the surrounding environment.
They continued to grope their way forward, the ground beneath their feet becoming bumpy and uneven, sometimes stepping on sharp stones that stung their soles. Suddenly, a strange sound came from the front, like someone whispering.
"You... shouldn't have come..." The voice was eerie and terrifying, as if it came from hell.
"Who is it?" Lin Yu shouted loudly.
However, only their own voices echoed in the empty space.
At this moment, a gust of cold wind blew over, extinguishing the flashlight in Lin Yu's hand. The darkness instantly swallowed them completely.
"Ah!" Suna screamed.
"Calm down! Don't panic, everyone!" the principal shouted.
They groped in the darkness, trying to relight their flashlights, but it was all in vain.
Suddenly, they felt a pair of invisible hands pulling them with such force that they couldn't break free.
"Help!" Suna's voice was full of despair.
Lin Yu struggled desperately, "No matter who you are, we will not surrender!"
Just when they felt desperate, a faint light appeared in the distance...
