Chapter 119 Return to the Forest

Return to the Forest

After a period of rest and preparation, Lin Yu and Suna stood at the entrance to the forest where they had nearly lost their lives. The sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, creating dappled shadows, but it couldn't dispel the haze and fear deep in their hearts.

"Lin Yu, we must be careful this time." Suna's voice still held a hint of nervousness that was barely concealed. Her hands tightly gripped the shoulder straps of her backpack, her knuckles turning white from the strain. Her gaze darted anxiously around the forest entrance, as if some unknown terror might burst forth from the darkness at any moment.

Lin Yu nodded solemnly, his eyes firm and resolute. "Don't worry, we're fully prepared," he patted his heavy backpack, filled with all the tools and equipment he'd prepared for this adventure. Despite his words, he felt a tinge of trepidation, but his intense curiosity and determination to uncover the secrets of the humanoid tree compelled him to forge ahead.

Armed with more specialized equipment—a precise compass, powerful flashlights, and sharp knives—they re-entered the gloomy forest. The moment they entered, the familiar feeling of oppression washed over them like an invisible wall. The damp air, mingled with the scent of rotting leaves, made breathing difficult. Lin Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He gripped the compass tightly, his eyes fixed on the needle, determining his direction.

"Suna, follow me closely." Lin Yu's voice was low and serious. His steps were slow and cautious, and he carefully avoided the dead branches and traps on the ground with every step.

Su Na followed closely behind Lin Yu, her heart pounding like a drum and her breathing rapid. "Okay, slow down, I'm afraid I can't keep up." Her voice trembled, as if her throat was strangled by fear.

They walked cautiously, trying not to make any noise. The forest was unusually quiet, the only sounds being their light footsteps and rapid breathing. Suddenly, a strange wind began to blow. It was an unusual sound, a sharp whistle, like the cry of some mysterious creature. Branches swayed violently in the wind, colliding and creaking, as if warning them to stay away.

"This wind is so strange." Su Na's voice was filled with fear. Her body involuntarily moved closer to Lin Yu and grabbed the corner of his clothes. Her eyes looked around in horror, as if she could see a terrifying figure hidden in the wind.

Lin Yu stopped, listening to the wind with his ears perked up, his eyes warily observing his surroundings. "Don't be afraid, it might just be a natural phenomenon," he reassured Suna, but his own heartbeat was also rapidly accelerating. He knew that in this mysterious forest, any seemingly ordinary phenomenon could hide unknown dangers.

As they continued forward, the ground beneath their feet became softer and wetter, and they could feel the mud with every step. Suddenly, Lin Yu noticed some strange footprints on the ground, of varying sizes and irregular shapes. The footprints were deeply imprinted in the mud, with blurred edges, as if they had been pressed down by something heavy.

"What could have left this behind?" Suna's voice trembled. She squatted down, wanting to see more clearly, but didn't dare to get too close.

Lin Yu squatted down to examine it carefully, his brow furrowed. "It's hard to say, but it's definitely not human." His voice was low, and various possible animals flashed through his mind, but he felt that these footprints did not match any animal he knew.

At this moment, a low roar came from the distance. The sound seemed to come from the depths of hell, full of anger and threats. Lin Yu and Suna's bodies froze instantly, and their blood seemed to solidify at this moment.

"What...what's that sound?" Suna's voice was almost crying, and her face was as pale as paper.

Lin Yu stood up, holding the self-defense knife tightly, "I don't know, but we must be careful." He looked firmly in the direction of the sound, his heart beating like thunder.

They stood there, not daring to make any rash moves. The roar continued to echo in the forest, shaking the leaves to fall. Lin Yu felt that Su Na's hand was shaking constantly. He turned his head and gave her a firm look.

"Don't be afraid, Suna, we will be fine." His voice was not loud, but full of power.

Suna took a deep breath and nodded, "Okay, we will face it together."

They walked slowly towards the direction of the sound, each step filled with fear and uneasiness. The surrounding trees seemed to sense their nervousness, and their branches drooped as if in mourning for them.

Suddenly, a huge black shadow passed over their heads, bringing up a gust of wind.

"Ah!" Suna screamed.

Lin Yu shone the flashlight towards the sky, but could only see darkness.

"What is that?" Lin Yu's voice was also filled with fear.

They quickened their pace, with only one thought in mind: to find the human-shaped tree as soon as possible, uncover the secret of this forest, and then escape from this terrible place...
