Chapter 123: Exploring the Truth

Exploring the Truth

After a short rest, Lin Yu and Suna regained some strength. They sat on a relatively open patch of grass, the sun filtering through the leaves and bringing a touch of warmth. However, their hearts remained heavy, the horrific experience in the cave still lingering in their minds.

"Lin Yu, what should we do next?" Su Na looked at Lin Yu, her eyes showing both fear of the unknown and a determination to find out. Her face was still pale, her hair was messy and stuck to her cheeks, and her hands unconsciously clutched the corners of her clothes.

Lin Yu stood up, dusted himself off, and looked resolutely into the depths of the forest. "We can't just go back like this. We have to find out what's hidden in this forest." His voice was deep and powerful, as if he was encouraging himself and Suna.

They walked along the edge of the forest, taking each step carefully. The grass beneath their feet was soft and fluffy, and from time to time, some unknown small insects would scurry past. Lin Yu walked in front, holding a thick branch in his hand, and from time to time he would push aside the grass in front of him to check for any danger.

Suddenly, Lin Yu noticed some strange marks on the ground. They were deeply imprinted in the soil, irregular in shape, and resembled the footprints of some large animal. "Could this be related to what we encountered earlier?" Suna asked nervously, her voice trembling slightly, and her steps became more hurried as she approached Lin Yu.

Lin Yu squatted down and carefully observed the footprints, frowning. "It's very likely, but we can't be intimidated by fear." His fingers gently touched the edge of the footprints, feeling the wetness of the soil and the depth of the footprints, secretly speculating in his heart what kind of animal might have left them.

Continuing forward, they came upon a massive, dead tree. Its trunk was so thick it required several people to hug it. Its bark was cracked and dry, as if it had weathered countless years. Strange symbols were carved into the trunk, some resembling twisted lines, others like ancient patterns, leaving the reader baffled.

"What do these symbols mean?" Suna looked closer in confusion, her eyes fixed on the symbols, trying to find some clues from them.

Just then, a gust of wind rustled the leaves. It was as if countless ghosts were whispering, telling ancient secrets. Suna shuddered. "Lin Yu, I feel like there's something evil about this wind."

Lin Yu pondered and said, "I don't know, but I feel that these symbols must have important meanings. Maybe they are some kind of guidance, or a warning." His eyes moved back and forth between the symbols and the surrounding environment, his heart full of doubts.

Suddenly, from afar, a melodious flute sounded. The sound was ethereal and eerie, echoing through the forest like a call from another world. The voice, sometimes high-pitched, sometimes low, was eerie.

"What's going on?" Suna's voice was full of panic. Her eyes were wide open and she looked around for the source of the flute sound.

Lin Yu's eyes became more determined, "Let's go and take a look." He took a deep breath, clenched the branch in his hand, and walked towards the direction of the flute sound with firm steps.

Suna hesitated for a moment, but eventually followed Lin Yu. They followed the sound of the flute, the path becoming increasingly rugged and overgrown with weeds. The surrounding trees grew taller and denser, almost completely blocking out the sunlight. A light mist filled the forest, making everything seem hazy and mysterious.

"Lin Yu, I'm a little scared." Su Na followed Lin Yu closely, her voice trembling obviously.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Lin Yu comforted her, but his own heartbeat was also accelerating. He could feel the atmosphere around him becoming increasingly strange, as if countless pairs of eyes were watching them in the darkness.

As they continued forward, the sound of the flute grew clearer. With each step, they felt as if they were sinking deeper into a mystery. Suddenly, a clearing appeared in front of them. A mysterious figure in a black robe stood there, playing the flute.

The mysterious figure was looming in the mist, his robe fluttering in the wind, as if blending in with the surrounding environment. Lin Yu and Su Na stopped, not daring to approach easily.

"Who is this?" Suna asked in a low voice, her voice almost inaudible.

Lin Yu did not answer, but just stared at the mysterious man closely, his heart full of vigilance.

The mysterious man's flute suddenly stopped playing. He slowly turned around, revealing a face shrouded in shadow. "You're finally here." His voice was low and hoarse, as if it came from deep underground.

Lin Yu and Su Na's bodies froze instantly, fear spreading through their bodies like an electric current...
