The Truth Becomes Clear
Lin Yu and Suna waited in the cabin for a long time, every moment stretching out endlessly. Fear and uneasiness hung like a dark cloud over them. Once they were sure the giant salamander had truly left, they cautiously pushed open the tattered door. The sunlight poured down upon them, but it brought little warmth, only relief and exhaustion from having survived.
"Lin Yu, why is this giant salamander so strange? Is it really just a mutation?" Su Na asked with lingering fear. Her voice was still trembling, her face was as pale as paper, and her eyes were filled with fear of what she had just experienced and doubts about the unknown.
Lin Yu frowned, his eyes deep and solemn. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I don't think things are that simple. There must be some deeper reasons behind this." The scene of his encounter with the giant salamander kept flashing through his mind, and his doubts grew heavier.
They decided to continue their investigation in the village, hoping to find some clues. The village was filled with an oppressive atmosphere, and the villagers' eyes were filled with vigilance and fear, as if the shadow of the giant salamander was always looming over the land.
In the village, they met a seemingly friendly old man. He sat on a stone bench at his doorstep, his gaze warped and distant, his face wrinkled like the marks of time. After hearing their story, he sighed deeply, a sigh that seemed to carry an immense weight and helplessness.
"This is all retribution." The old man's voice was low and hoarse, as if coming from the distant past.
Lin Yu and Su Na looked at each other, and saw the same surprise and anxiety in each other's eyes. They hurriedly asked: "Old man, what do you mean by this?"
The old man slowly raised his head, gazing at the distant mountains, as if catching a glimpse of the past. "In the past, our village overexploited the mountain's resources to make money, felling trees, mining for minerals, and discharging sewage, destroying the giant salamander's habitat. Back then, focused solely on immediate profits, no one cared about the land or the creatures that inhabited it. Then, this strange giant salamander appeared and began attacking the village's livestock and people. Perhaps this is nature's punishment for us," the old man's voice was filled with regret and self-blame.
"So that's how it is." Lin Yu nodded thoughtfully, and the doubts in his heart were slightly answered, but he knew that things might not be that simple.
"Also, I heard that someone discovered a mysterious laboratory in the mountains. I wonder if it has anything to do with this giant salamander." The old man said in a low voice, with a hint of fear in his eyes, as if mentioning that laboratory would bring some kind of ominousness.
Lin Yu and Suna decided to find the mysterious laboratory and uncover the truth. Following the old man's instructions, they headed into the mountains. The path was rugged and difficult, with rocks and thorns constantly hindering their progress. The surrounding trees grew denser, and sunlight could only filter through the gaps in the leaves. A chilling, eerie atmosphere permeated the air.
"Lin Yu, I'm a little scared." Su Na followed Lin Yu closely, her voice trembling obviously, and her hands unconsciously grabbed the corner of Lin Yu's clothes.
Lin Yu stopped, turned around, and gently held Su Na's hand, "Don't be afraid, we will find the answer soon." Although his voice was firm, his heart was full of tension and anxiety.
They continued to move forward, the mountain road became steeper and steeper, and every step required great effort. Suddenly, a cool breeze blew, and the leaves rustled, as if countless pairs of eyes were secretly watching them.
"The sound of the wind... is creepy." Suna's voice almost sounded like she was crying.
Lin Yu pretended to be calm and said, "Don't overthink it, it's just rumors."
Just then, they heard a strange sound, like the sound of a machine running, which was particularly abrupt in the silent forest.
"What's that sound?" Suna's voice was full of horror.
Lin Yu's heartbeat suddenly accelerated, "I don't know, but let's be careful and approach slowly."
They walked in the direction of the sound, which became clearer and clearer, as if a huge secret was about to be revealed. The atmosphere around them became increasingly eerie, and the branches swayed in the wind like a monster with bared fangs and claws.
"Lin Yu, I'm really scared." Su Na's voice was tearful.
Lin Yu held Su Na's hand tightly and said, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Finally, they saw a cave hidden in the woods, and the sound came from inside...
