Chapter 144: Ray of Hope

Ray of Hope

Lin Yu and Suna continued their jeep's furious dash through the darkness, its wheels bouncing and bouncing on the bumpy road, the car swaying violently as if it would fall apart at any moment. The moonlight was obscured by dark clouds, and the surroundings were plunged into a thick darkness. Only the jeep's headlights emitted two pale beams, barely illuminating the road ahead. The lights of the SUVs behind them, like ghostly eyes, flickered in and out of the darkness. The roar of their engines was like the roar of hell, chasing them closely, without a moment's pause.

"Lin Yu, the fuel gauge is almost at the bottom! We can't hold out much longer!" Suna stared at the dashboard, her voice filled with despair. Her eyes were bloodshot from fear and exhaustion, and her voice trembled like a leaf in the wind. She shifted her gaze from the dashboard to Lin Yu's face, hoping he would offer a miraculous solution.

Lin Yu's brow furrowed, his lips pressed into a line, his gaze fixed firmly on the road ahead. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white from the strain. "Don't worry, there's definitely a way." His voice was low and firm, trying to offer some comfort to Suna, but his own heart was also filled with anxiety and uneasiness.

Just then, they saw an abandoned gas station on the side of the road. The gas station stood alone in the darkness, its dilapidated signboard crumbling, as if telling them of its former glory.

"Maybe there's still some oil there!" Lin Yu swerved the steering wheel, and the jeep made a sharp friction sound as it drove towards the gas station. The car stopped suddenly in front of the gas station, raising a cloud of dust.

As soon as the car stopped, Lin Yu quickly jumped out and rushed to the gas pump with the oil barrel. His movements were urgent and panicked, with only one thought in his mind, which was to find oil as soon as possible.

However, the gas pump didn't respond at all. Lin Yu pressed the gas button desperately, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead and dripping onto the cold ground.

"Damn it!" Lin Yu angrily smashed the gas pump, his voice particularly loud in the silent night. His eyes were filled with despair and anger, as if the gas pump was the culprit that led them into a desperate situation.

At this time, the sound of the off-road vehicle was getting closer and closer. The sound was like the bell of death, beating their hearts again and again.

"Lin Yu, what should I do?" Su Na was so anxious that she was about to cry. She got out of the car and ran to Lin Yu, holding his arm tightly with both hands, her body shaking.

Lin Yu didn't answer. His eyes quickly scanned the area around the gas station, desperately trying to think of a solution. Suddenly, his eyes fixed on a corner, spotting a basement entrance. It was half-hidden by a worn wooden board, and surrounded by cobwebs and weeds.

"Let's go down and take a look!" Lin Yu pulled Su Na up and ran towards the basement. Their footsteps were particularly clear in the silent night, as if they were the only sign of life in this dead silence.

The basement was dark and damp, filled with a foul odor. It was so pungent and strong that it was almost impossible to breathe. Water droplets continuously dripped from the walls, making a dripping sound, as if it was a countdown to death.

They walked cautiously, each step filled with fear and caution. The flashlight in Lin Yu's hand flickered in the darkness, illuminating the small space around them. The puddles on the ground reflected their figures, distorted and terrifying.

Suddenly, a deep roar was heard. The voice seemed to come from the depths of hell, carrying endless anger and threats.

"What's that sound?" Su Na was so scared that she grabbed Lin Yu's arm tightly, her voice trembling and almost inaudible. Her body was pressed tightly against Lin Yu, as if he was her only lifeline in the darkness.

Lin Yu shone his flashlight over there, only to see a huge vicious dog charging towards them. The dog's eyes flashed blood-red in the flashlight, and its sharp teeth gleamed coldly in the darkness. Its body was covered in dirt and blood, and it looked particularly ferocious and terrifying.

"Be careful!" Lin Yu protected Su Na behind him, his voice low and firm. His heartbeat accelerated rapidly, but there was no trace of retreat in his eyes.

At this critical moment, Lin Yu found an iron rod next to him. He quickly picked it up and held it tightly in his hand.

The vicious dog pounced on him, and Lin Yu dodged sideways, swinging the iron rod at the same time, hitting the vicious dog. The vicious dog nimbly dodged and attacked again. Lin Yu and the vicious dog started a fierce fight, his breathing was rapid, and every swing of the iron rod exhausted all his strength.

Suna watched in horror from the side, covering her mouth with her hands, not daring to make a sound.

After a fierce fight, Lin Yu finally found the vicious dog's weakness and hit it on the head with a stick. The vicious dog screamed, fell to the ground, struggled for a few times, and stopped moving.

"Huh..." Lin Yu panted heavily, his clothes soaked with sweat. His arms trembled slightly from the excessive force. "Let's keep looking."

They continued to grope in the basement, feeling extremely nervous.

At this moment, they found a few barrels of spare gasoline in the corner. Those gasoline barrels were covered with dust and rust, but in their eyes, they were like life-saving treasures.

"That's great!" Suna shouted excitedly, her voice filled with the joy of surviving the disaster.

They hurried back to the car with the gas and added it to the tank.

"This time, we will definitely escape." Lin Yu started the car and set out on the road to escape again.

The jeep's engine roared in the darkness, carrying their hopes as it drove off into the distance...
