New Shadows
Days passed like a tranquil lake, and Lin Yu and Suna found long-lost peace and happiness in their ordinary yet warm life. Sunlight streamed through the window into their little house, and every morning was filled with hope and warmth.
However, on a seemingly ordinary evening, as Lin Yu walked home from get off work, that familiar yet eerie feeling crept back. The streets were bustling with people hurrying along and cars streaming by. The setting sun painted the city a golden and warm glow, but Lin Yu felt no trace of this beauty.
He felt a constant urge to watch him from a dark corner, a feeling of being watched growing stronger with every step. "Is it just my imagination?" Lin Yu muttered to himself, unconsciously slowing his pace, trying to catch a glimpse of something strange. His heartbeat began to accelerate, almost as if he could hear its rapid beat echoing in his ears. Fine beads of sweat formed on his forehead, and even a gentle breeze couldn't dispel the chill within him.
Lin Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, then quickened his pace. His footsteps were remarkably clear on the empty street, each step a tad heavy on his frayed nerves. He kept looking back, but could only see hurried passersby, no suspicious figures. Yet, the feeling of being followed remained constant, like an invisible ghost following him closely.
When he got home, Lin Yu looked pale and nervous. Seeing him like this, Su Na had a bad feeling in her heart.
"Honey, what's wrong with you?" Suna asked with concern, her eyes full of worry.
Lin Yu sat heavily on the sofa, rubbing his face with his hands, "Suna, I always feel like someone is following me." His voice trembled, revealing his inner fear.
"Could it be the remnants of those people?" Suna said worriedly, her voice unconsciously rising and her eyes wide open.
"That shouldn't be the case. Wasn't that base destroyed?" Lin Yu frowned, trying to calm himself, but his eyes were still filled with anxiety. He looked out the window. Night had fallen, and darkness enveloped the entire city, deepening his fear.
But for the next few days, Lin Yu continued to feel like he was being followed. Every time he walked down the street, he felt like a shadow was following him, but he couldn't quite place its presence. He even received some strange phone calls at home. There was no sound on the other end, only heavy breathing and a heart-wrenching silence.
Every time the phone rang, it was like a thunderclap exploding in their hearts. Lin Yu picked up the phone, only to hear the eerie silence, as if an invisible threat was waiting on the other end of the phone.
"What on earth is going on?" Lin Yu's heart was filled with confusion and anxiety. He paced back and forth in the room, scratching his hair with both hands, trying to sort out this chaotic situation.
Suna also became nervous and lived in fear every day. She dared not go out alone and always stayed close to Lin Yu. At night, she was often awakened by nightmares, and cold sweats soaked her pajamas.
One day, Lin Yu returned home from get off work as usual. When he opened his mailbox, an anonymous letter with no return address lay quietly there. His hands trembled as he picked up the letter, and a strong sense of unease surged in his heart.
Back in the house, Lin Yu opened the envelope and took out the letter. When he saw the contents of the letter, his face turned pale instantly.
"Do you think it's over? This is just the beginning." Those words seemed to be written in blood, revealing endless threats and malice.
Lin Yu's hands fell weakly, and the letter fell to the ground. Su Na picked up the letter and saw the words on it, and her body couldn't help but tremble.
"What...what does this mean? Could it be that they really haven't been completely wiped out?" Suna's voice was tearful, and her eyes were full of fear and despair.
Lin Yu hugged Suna tightly, trying to comfort her, but his heart was filled with fear and confusion. "I don't know, but we can't just sit there and wait for death."
The room fell into a deathly silence, with only the sounds of their heavy breathing and restless heartbeats. The wind outside the window howled, rustling against the windows, as if an unknown threat was approaching.
At night, Lin Yu lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. The contents of the letter and the feeling of being followed kept resurfacing in his mind. Moonlight streamed through the window onto the ground, casting eerie shadows that seemed to conceal countless dangers.
Su Na was also tossing and turning beside him. She held Lin Yu's hand tightly, as if it was her only support in the darkness. "Lin Yu, I'm so scared." Her voice seemed so weak and helpless in the darkness.
Lin Yu patted her hand gently and said, "Don't be afraid, dear, we will definitely find a way to deal with it." But he was actually unsure in his heart, not knowing what kind of danger he was about to face.
In the days that followed, Lin Yu and Suna lived in fear and anxiety. They were always alert to everything around them. Every strange figure and every sudden sound could make their nerves tense instantly.
One day, on his way to work, Lin Yu suddenly saw a familiar face flashing through the crowd. It was someone he had seen before at the base. Although it was just a quick glance, he was sure he was not mistaken.
Lin Yu's heartbeat quickened, and he quietly followed him, trying to figure out the man's purpose. But the man seemed to have noticed his pursuit and quickly disappeared into an alley.
Lin Yu stood at the entrance of the alley, looking at the empty alley, his heart filled with doubt and fear. "Are they really going to make a comeback?" he muttered to himself.
When he got home, Lin Yu told Suna about this. Suna's face turned even paler. "What should we do? Who should we ask for help?"
Lin Yu pondered for a moment, "Maybe we should contact the police again."
So they called the police and told them everything that had happened recently. The police said they would re-investigate, but until the results came out, they could only be cautious on their own.
As they waited for news from the police, Lin Yu and Suna's lives seemed to be trapped in an endless nightmare. Every night, they spent in fear, not knowing what news the next day would bring, or when the threat lurking in the darkness would truly strike...
