Chapter 165: Hope in the Darkness

Hope in the Darkness

The moment the attic fell into darkness, it seemed as if the whole world was swallowed by endless darkness. Lin Yu and Su Na's hearts also sank to the bottom of the valley. Fear was like an icy tide, quickly drowning every inch of their thoughts.

"Lin Yu, what should I do? I can't see anything!" Su Na's voice, tinged with tears, sounded especially mournful in the pitch-black space. Her body trembled violently, and she clutched Lin Yu's arm tightly, as if it were her only lifeline in the terrifying darkness. Her heartbeat was like a rapid drumbeat, each beat filled with deep fear and despair. Horrifying images kept appearing in her mind, as if countless pairs of evil eyes were watching them from the darkness, ready to pounce and tear them to pieces.

Lin Yu held Suna's hand tightly, trying to give her some warmth and courage. His heart was racing, but he tried to remain calm, not letting fear take over. "Don't be afraid, Suna. Even if we can't see, we can't give up." His voice was firm, but his heart was trembling. He knew that in this extreme darkness, even the slightest panic could lead to irreversible consequences.

At that moment, Lin Yu felt a faint draft coming from a certain direction. It brushed his cheek, bringing a glimmer of hope. "Suna, I think there might be an exit here. Follow me," Lin Yu said, his voice low and urgent, pulling Suna closer. He moved forward cautiously, each step filled with tentativeness and caution.

In the darkness, the sound of their footsteps was particularly clear, echoing in the silent space, as if it was the only proof of their struggle against the darkness. Every step they took was like stepping on the edge of an unknown abyss, full of uncertainty and danger.

"Lin Yu, I'm so scared something might pop up." Suna's voice trembled, her breathing was rapid and disordered. She opened her eyes desperately in the darkness, but could see nothing. The feeling of helplessness almost made her collapse.

"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you," Lin Yu soothed. His own heartbeat was practically pounding. But he knew he had to be Suna's rock at this moment. He groped his way forward in the darkness, his hands constantly searching ahead, fearful of running into anything terrifying.

Suddenly, they heard a slight rustling sound, as if something was moving slowly in the darkness with an eerie rhythm.

"Lin Yu..." Su Na's voice changed, her body stiffened instantly, and her breathing seemed to stop.

"Hush, don't make a sound." Lin Yu stopped, holding his breath, his muscles tensed. His ears pricked up, listening carefully for the sound's direction, his heart pounding wildly in his chest. His mind raced, thinking about how to respond if danger truly approached.

Time seemed to freeze at this moment, and every second seemed to stretch infinitely longer. The rustling sound seemed to be approaching, yet also lingering, leaving one with an elusive feeling. Lin Yu could feel Suna's hand, sweaty, in his, and her body trembling with extreme fear.

After a while, the sound seemed to fade away. Lin Yu breathed a sigh of relief, but still didn't dare to let his guard down. "Let's keep going. Be careful." He pulled Suna and took another step.

They continued to grope forward in the darkness, each step filled with hardship and fear. Suddenly, Lin Yu's hand touched a cold wall. The touch of the wall instantly ignited a glimmer of hope in his heart.

"Could this be the exit?" Lin Yu felt a glimmer of hope, his voice filled with uncontrollable excitement. He fumbled along the wall anxiously, running his fingers across it, feeling every tiny bump and texture, searching for a possible switch or gap.

At this moment, the black stone in his hand suddenly emitted a faint light. Although the light was weak, it seemed so dazzling and warm in the endless darkness. Lin Yu and Suna were both stunned by this sudden light, their eyes fixed on the black stone, as if it was the only salvation in this dark world.

"This stone..." Suna said in surprise.

Lin Yu stared at the light emanating from the black stone, his heart filled with doubts and anticipation. "Perhaps it can help us find a way out," he said, his eyes following the light as he explored the darkness.

Under the light of the black stone, they found some strange symbols and patterns carved on the wall. Those symbols were like ancient codes, hiding unknown secrets.

"What does this mean?" Suna asked.

Lin Yu frowned and studied the symbols carefully. "I don't know, but maybe they are related to our way out."

At this moment, the light of the black stone began to flicker, as if warning them of something.

"Not good, this light may not last long." Lin Yu's face became more solemn.

They accelerated their exploration of the wall, hoping to find clues to the exit before the light of the black stone disappeared...
