Chapter 172: Fear of the Unknown

Fear of the Unknown

In the passage ahead, a gigantic monster lay crouched. Its bulk was as large as a mountain, its massive body practically dominating the entire passage, a formidable sight. Its body was covered in hard scales, each the size of a shield, gleaming with a faint blue light that shone eerily in the darkness, like the cold fire of hell. Its eyes were like flaming balls of fire, blazing with boundless rage and fury. Wherever its searing gaze passed, the air seemed to ignite and distort. The hot air from its mouth made the entire passage unbearably scorching, a wave of heat that seemed to burn through the very souls of Lin Yu and Suna.

"What...what kind of monster is this?" Suna screamed in terror, her voice piercing and piercing, echoing through the narrow passage, filled with despair and terror. Her eyes widened, nearly popping out of their sockets. Her body trembled uncontrollably, like leaves in the autumn wind. She instinctively covered her mouth with her hands, as if that would stop the terror from spilling out.

Lin Yu feigned composure. Even though his heart was pounding wildly, he knew he had to protect Suna. He took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice steady. "Don't be afraid. We'll retreat slowly." However, a slight tremor in his voice betrayed his inner fear. His legs felt heavy as if they were filled with lead, but he still struggled to move backward.

However, the monster seemed to sense their presence and slowly raised its head. The movement was slow and heavy, like the movement of a mountain. As it moved, its scales rubbed against each other, making a terrifying "crunching" sound. It opened its bloody mouth and let out a deafening roar. The sound was like thunder in their ears, shaking the stones in the passage and raising a cloud of dust.

"Lin Yu, what should we do?" Su Na clutched at the edge of Lin Yu's clothes, her voice filled with despair. Her nails dug deep into Lin Yu's clothes, as if they were the only lifeline she could grasp in this terrifying world. Tears welled up in her eyes, her eyes filled with fear of an unknown fate.

Lin Yu's mind raced, various thoughts flashing through his mind. "Maybe we can find a place to hide," he said, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. But at this moment, this was the only solution they could think of. His eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, searching for any place to hide.

At that moment, the monster moved its massive body, inching closer. With each step, the ground shook, as if there were a small earthquake. Its footsteps echoed through the passage, like a countdown to death.

Lin Yu dragged Suna deeper into the passage, searching for a place to hide. Their footsteps were particularly rapid in the passage, intertwined with the monster's footsteps, forming a terrifying symphony.

"There!" Suna shouted, pointing to a narrow gap. The gap was hidden in the darkness and would have been almost impossible to find if it weren't for Suna's sharp eyes.

The two of them quickly slipped into the gap, not daring to breathe. Their bodies pressed tightly together, trying to make themselves as small as possible to avoid being discovered by the monster.

The monster came near their hiding place, stopped, and kept sniffing. The hot breath it exhaled blew on them through the cracks, and the scorching breath made them feel like their skin was about to be burned.

"Don't find us, don't find us." Lin Yu prayed silently in his heart. His heartbeat seemed so clear in the silence, as if announcing their location to the monster.

Suna closed her eyes tightly, tears falling from the corners of her eyes. Her lips trembled as she muttered something silently, perhaps praying to the gods for protection.

The monster lingered nearby for a while, and every second felt like a century to Lin Yu and Suna. Their bodies became stiff and their muscles ached from tension, but they didn't dare to move at all.

Finally, the monster seemed to lose interest and slowly left. But they still didn't dare to come out easily, for fear that the monster was only away temporarily and might come back at any time.

"Lin Yu, is it gone?" Suna asked tremblingly.

"I'm not sure either, let's wait a little longer." Lin Yu replied in a low voice.

They waited in the gap for a long time until they heard no more movement, then they cautiously poked their heads out.

"It seems like he's really gone." Lin Yu said, with a hint of relief in his voice at having survived the disaster.

But they know that the road ahead is still full of unknowns and dangers...
