The Difficult Journey Home
After escaping the mysterious man's pursuit, Lin Yu and the others gasped for breath, as if they had just escaped death. Their figures seemed so small and lonely in this desolate land. Surrounding them was an endless wilderness, overgrown with weeds that rustled gently in the breeze. The weeds, higher than their knees, occasionally scratched their calves, causing a subtle sting.
"We have to find a way back quickly, otherwise we'll be in trouble if those guys catch up again," Lin Yu said worriedly. His voice was filled with anxiety and fatigue, and his eyes revealed deep worry. He looked at the vast wilderness, his heart was confused, but he knew they couldn't stay here for too long.
Suna looked exhausted, her hair tangled against her face, her clothes ripped in several places by branches. "But we're not familiar with this place. Where should we go?" her voice tinged with tears, her heart filled with helplessness and fear. She looked up at the gradually dimming light in the sky, her despair growing stronger.
Old Chen stared at the compass in his hand, his brow furrowed, the wrinkles on his forehead seeming to deepen. "The compass seems to be disturbed, it's not very accurate." His voice was low and hoarse, and he fiddled with the compass in his hand, hoping to find any sign of normality, but the results made him even more frustrated.
The hooded figure was silent for a moment, his eyes deep and solemn, as if he was contemplating something. "Let's go in this direction first and see if we can find any clues." He raised his hand and pointed in one direction, his voice tinged with uncertainty, but this was their only option at the moment.
They dragged themselves forward, the ground beneath their feet soft and damp, each step seeming to exhaust all their strength. Their shoes sank into the mud, and when they pulled themselves out, there was a heavy resistance. The wind whistled in their ears, making their clothes rustle.
The sky gradually darkened, the already gloomy sky becoming even darker, as if a huge black curtain was about to fall. A cold wind whistled past, carrying a damp breath that chilled people. The sound of the wind was like the whisper of a ghost, lingering in my ears.
"This wind is so frightening." Suna hugged her arms tightly, trying to resist the cold and fear. Her body trembled slightly, and her eyes kept looking around, as if something terrible would jump out of the darkness at any time.
Lin Yu turned his head and looked at Suna, his eyes filled with concern and comfort. "Don't be afraid, Suna, everyone, hold on a little longer." His voice was gentle, but it couldn't hide the tension and anxiety in his heart. He knew that at this time, they had to support each other to have any hope of survival.
At this moment, a turbulent river appeared in front of them. The river roared and rushed, making a huge noise. The white waves rolled like an angry beast, blocking their way.
"What should we do? The river is flowing so fast, there's no way we can get across." Old Chen looked at the river, his face filled with helplessness. His eyes were filled with despair. The river seemed like an insurmountable chasm, blocking their path to survival.
Lin Yu surveyed his surroundings, trying to find a way to cross the river. His gaze darted back and forth between the banks, his mind frantically pondering a strategy. "Let's see if there's another way to cross the river," he said, his voice tinged with urgency and hope.
They trudged along the riverbank, their steps made more difficult by the stones and mud under their feet, and the weeds and thorns kept catching on their clothes, as if trying to stop them from moving forward.
Finally, they found a fallen tree, its trunk across the river. The trunk was thick and heavy, but under the impact of the river, it seemed a little shaky.
“Maybe we can get through this tree,” the hooded figure said, a hint of hesitation and worry in his voice.
Lin Yu carefully stepped onto the tree trunk, testing its stability. His steps were light, each one filled with caution. "Everyone, wait while I go over and take a look. If it's safe, come back." His voice seemed so small amid the roar of the river.
"Be careful, Lin Yu." Suna watched nervously from the shore, her hands clenched tightly together, her knuckles white from the force. Her heart was in her throat, as if every step Lin Yu took was affecting her life.
Lin Yu moved forward slowly, and when he reached the middle of the tree, the trunk suddenly made a "creaking" sound. The sound was particularly harsh in the silent wilderness, as if it was a forewarning of death.
"Oh no! The tree is about to break!" Lin Yu exclaimed. His heartbeat instantly accelerated, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He tried to quicken his pace, but the shaking of the tree trunk almost made him lose his balance.
Old Chen shouted anxiously on the shore: "Lin Yu, come back quickly!"
Su Na covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes, "Lin Yu, be careful!"
Lin Yu struggled to maintain his balance, his mind racing as he thought about how to deal with the situation. He knew that if he retreated now, they might never find a way to cross the river again. He took a deep breath and continued to move forward cautiously.
The tree trunk swayed more and more under the impact of the river water. Lin Yu's body swayed with the trunk, like a leaf drifting in the wind.
"I must succeed, I must get through!" Lin Yu prayed silently in his heart, his eyes were firm and resolute. Although his heart was filled with fear, he had no intention of giving up.
At this moment, a strong wind blew, and the tree trunk suddenly sank down. Lin Yu's feet slipped, and his body instantly lost balance and fell into the river...
