Chapter 223: A New Journey: Exploring the Secrets of Miao Border Gusu

Lin Yu quickly drew his sword, its blade gleaming with a cold light, dazzling in the dim light. He swung the sword, its blade slicing through the air in arcs, attempting to block the approach of the insects. "These might be poisonous insects. Be careful not to get bitten!" Lin Yu shouted, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. The sweat glistened in the sunlight, a reflection of his nervousness. He knew full well that if bitten by one of these insects, the consequences would be disastrous.

Suna quickly cast a spell. A beam of light shot out from her hand, like a meteor in the night sky, instantly forming a barrier that temporarily blocked the Gu worms' attack. The barrier emanated a soft glow, standing out against the dark forest. But the Gu worms were too numerous, charging at the barrier like a tide, making a sizzling sound as if they were corroding it. Each impact caused the barrier to tremble slightly, as if it would shatter at any moment.

"This isn't going to work. We need to find their weakness!" Suna said anxiously, her eyes fixed on the insects, filled with anxiety and concentration, searching for a flaw. Her heartbeat was so rapid it felt like it was about to burst out of her throat, and her brain was racing, thinking of a countermeasure.

Lin Yu fended off the poisonous insects while observing their movements. His eyes were as sharp as a hunting hawk, not missing a single detail. Suddenly, he noticed that the poisonous insects seemed to be wary of the scent of a particular herb. Not far away, a clump of purple herbs swayed gently in the breeze, exuding a unique fragrance. "Suna, look at that purple herb over there! Try using its scent to repel the poisonous insects!" Lin Yu shouted, his voice tinged with surprise and anticipation.

Su Na immediately understood Lin Yu's intention. She quickly cast a spell, spreading the herbal scent. The unique aroma quickly filled the air, like an invisible net, attacking the insects. As expected, the insects seemed to have encountered their natural enemy. Their frantic movements froze, and they retreated, soon disappearing into the soil. The soil gradually returned to calm, as if everything that had just happened was just a nightmare.

The two men breathed a sigh of relief, their tense nerves finally relaxing slightly. They exchanged a smile, a smile that expressed both relief at having survived the ordeal and a mutual trust and understanding. They continued their journey deeper into the mountains, their steps still cautious but more determined.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, they finally discovered a simple wooden house in a secluded valley. Around the house were a variety of exotic flowers and plants, each with its own unique shape. Some had petals resembling butterfly wings, while others had leaves gleaming with a metallic sheen. The air was filled with a unique fragrance, a blend of floral and herbal notes that was both refreshing and slightly unsettling.

"This should be the witch's residence." Lin Yu said softly, his voice very low, as if he was afraid to disturb this mysterious tranquility. The two of them slowly approached the wooden house, each step seeming to step on their own heartbeats.

Suddenly, a voice rang out from the cabin: "Why have you come? This isn't a place for just anyone." The voice was hoarse and mysterious, as if it came from another world, carrying a chilling majesty. The voice echoed through the valley, like a whisper, or an ancient curse.

Lin Yu and Suna exchanged a glance and, mustering their courage, said, "We've come here to explore the secrets of Gu magic. We hope the seniors can give us some guidance." Their voices were resolute, but they couldn't help but feel a little uneasy. After all, they were about to face a mysterious Gu woman, and no one knew how she would react.

The door of the wooden house slowly opened with a creaking sound, like the sigh of time. An old woman, with a withered face but sharp eyes, stepped out. Her skin was as wrinkled as dry bark, but her eyes were as sharp as a hawk's, as if she could see through their minds. She looked them up and down, her gaze like a scalpel, cutting back and forth. After a long pause, she slowly spoke, "The secrets of witchcraft are not so easy to uncover... But since you're here, I'll see if you have the ability..." With that, she waved her hand, and the flowers and plants surrounding the wooden house began to shake violently, as if controlled by an invisible force. The branches and leaves rubbed against each other, making a rustling sound, as if telling an ancient spell. It seemed as if something was about to burst from within, and a new challenge was about to begin...

Lin Yu and Suna immediately became alert, gripping their weapons tightly, their eyes filled with vigilance. They knew the real exploration had just begun, and the truth about Miao Gu magic might lie beyond these numerous challenges... They took a deep breath, prepared to face the unknown dangers, their hearts filled with a desire for the truth and a fearlessness of the challenge.
