Facing Fear
Lin Yu and Suna clung to each other, as if each was the other's only solid support in this dark, unknown cabin. The eerie, ethereal voice, like wisps of cold silk, still resonated through every inch of the cabin, as if an invisible, icy hand were mercilessly tugging at their hearts, causing them to beat uncontrollably faster. The dim light was like a thin veil, yet it exuded an indescribable eeriness. The poisonous insects in the surrounding bottles and jars seemed to be awakened by some sinister force, emitting even more eerie sounds, as if they were whispering ancient and terrifying spells, adding a layer of terror to the already oppressive atmosphere.
Lin Yu took a deep breath, his chest puffing out from the effort. He tried to let that breath infuse him with courage, striving to calm himself. He knew that in this perilous situation, fear was like a dark fog that obscured his vision, clouding his mind. Only by staying awake could he possibly find a glimmer of hope. "Suna, don't be afraid. No matter what happens, we must have faith that we can overcome it," he whispered softly, trying to convey strength to Suna. But in reality, he was also feeling a surge of unease, like the undercurrent surging beneath the surface of the sea before a storm. He didn't know what terrifying form the fear he was about to face would take.
Suna nodded slightly. Her hands were a little cold, as if they had just been pulled from an ice cellar, but she still held Lin Yu's hand tightly, as if she wanted to convey her fear through her grip. It was as if Lin Yu's hand was her only support in this endless darkness, and if she let go, she would fall into an irretrievable hell. "I'm not afraid, as long as we are together." Her voice was small, but it revealed a resolute determination. However, her rapidly accelerating heartbeat betrayed her. Various terrifying scenes involuntarily flashed through her mind like a revolving lantern. Those scenes were like demons nurtured by darkness, gnawing at her sanity.
At that moment, the temperature inside the cabin plummeted, as if a door to an ice cellar had quietly opened. A piercing chill, like the roar of a ferocious beast, instantly penetrated their clothing, piercing their very bones, sending a shiver through them. In the darkness, blurry figures loomed, like ghosts awakened from the depths of darkness, twisted and deformed, inhuman, and uttering pitiful cries. The cries were sharp and piercing, like countless needles piercing their eardrums and numbing their scalps. Lin Yu instinctively tightened his grip on his sword, his knuckles white from the strain. He watched the figures warily, his eyes as wide as bells, not missing a single movement. His palms, already wet with sweat, slowly slipped down the hilt of his sword, but he kept telling himself not to retreat. "These should be the embodiment of our inner fears. Don't be confused by them!" He shouted loudly, and his voice echoed in this silent and terrifying wooden house. He tried to use this shout to dispel the fear that followed him in his heart like a shadow.
Suna suppressed the overwhelming fear within her, concentrated her mind, and cast a spell. A soft light emanated from her hand, like a bright lamp suddenly lit in the darkness, illuminating a small area around them. In the light, the blurry figures appeared more clearly before their eyes. Their faces were hideous and terrifying, their distorted features as if they had been wantonly manipulated by a demon, and their eyes were filled with resentment, as if they wanted to devour everything in the world. Suna suppressed her inner fear and said with a slightly trembling voice, "They look terrifying, but we can't be intimidated by appearances."
One of the figures, seemingly sensing Suna's fear, suddenly lunged at Lin Yu with incredible speed, like a streak of black lightning piercing the darkness. Lin Yu felt a flash of darkness before his eyes, and a sinister aura washed over him. He reacted quickly, swinging his sword. The blade whistled as it sliced through the figure, yet it felt as if it were striking the air, without a single impact point, as if the figure were merely a puff of smoke. The figure passed through the blade and leaped directly in front of Lin Yu, its hideous face practically touching his own. A foul, tangible stench filled his face, nearly causing him to vomit. Lin Yu's heart trembled, as if an invisible hand were clutching his heart. But he reacted quickly, kicking the figure away with a powerful kick. "These things are a bit tricky. They seem impervious to physical attacks," Lin Yu said anxiously, frowning, beads of sweat covering his forehead.
Suna pondered for a moment, her mind racing in sheer terror, trying to come up with a plan. "Perhaps we should use our mental strength to combat them. These manifestations of fear are products of our inner selves. We must overcome them psychologically." Her voice trembled slightly with fear, but her eyes held a resolute look. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and focused her whole being, attempting to use her mental strength to dispel the fear. She felt as if her consciousness had entered a dark abyss, surrounded by endless terror, overwhelming her like a tide. But she gritted her teeth, striving to find a glimmer of light amidst the darkness.
Lin Yu also tried to calm down, knowing full well that Suna's solution might be the only way out. He recalled past adventures, those moments when he'd struggled on the brink of life and death but had successfully overcome difficulties. Like stars, they twinkled in his mind. Those experiences gradually restored his courage and confidence, like a life-saving straw in the darkness. He silently told himself, "These are all illusions. I will definitely overcome them." He felt his spirit gradually coalesce, like a piece of steel forged in a fierce fire, becoming increasingly resilient.
