Mysterious tome appears
Lin Yu and Suna continued deeper into the winding passage. The surrounding darkness was like thick ink, as if it had life, slowly wriggling and trying to devour them mercilessly. The passage became increasingly narrow, and the walls on both sides seemed to be constantly squeezing inward, giving people an intense sense of oppression. The already scarce glowing stones on the walls now dimmed even further, and the light they emitted could only barely illuminate the narrow path a few steps ahead, as if it would be completely submerged in darkness at any moment.
"I wonder what dangers await us ahead," Su Na whispered, her voice trembling slightly. Her voice echoed clearly in the near-deathly silent passage, and a hint of nervousness spread with her voice. She followed closely behind Lin Yu, her eyes wide as bells, scanning her surroundings vigilantly. Every slight movement would instantly set her nerves on edge. Her hands trembled slightly, but she remained steadfast, ready to cast her witchcraft at any moment, as if it were her only support in the darkness.
Lin Yu's nerves were equally strained. He gripped his weapon so tightly that his knuckles turned white from the strain. Sweat had already drenched his palms and trickled down the weapon's handle. "Whatever we encounter, we must proceed with caution. That tome is vital to us. We must find it." His voice was deep and resolute, his eyes burning with a fiery fire, as if declaring his resolve to the unknown darkness. At that moment, he vowed to himself that no matter what hardships and dangers lay ahead, no matter the cost, he would complete his mission, find that tome, and save the Miao region from its ravages.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the passage suddenly opened up, revealing a vast circular stone chamber. The floor was covered in strange runes, their lines twisting and intricate, like countless intertwined mystical veins. They emitted a faint, mysterious light, as if telling a story from an ancient and distant past. In the center of the chamber stood an ancient stone platform, upon which rested a softly glowing tome. The light was striking in the darkness, like a ray of hope amidst the darkness.
"That's it!" Lin Yu exclaimed excitedly, his eyes flashing with excitement, like a traveler groping in the darkness for a long time finally seeing the light of dawn. However, as he impatiently took a step forward, the runes on the ground suddenly glowed brighter, and energy barriers rose from the ground like transparent walls, tightly separating them from the stone platform. The energy barriers flickered with strange light, as if warning them that any rash action would come at a heavy price.
Suna immediately stopped and scrutinized the runes, trying to find a way to decipher the complex lines. Her brows knitted together, forming a deep "chuan" (river) shape, her eyes revealing concentration and contemplation. "These runes appear to form a complex formation. Breaking through it won't be easy," she whispered, a hint of helplessness and worry in her voice. Her mind was a tangled mess. On the one hand, she knew the importance of this tome, but on the other, she felt overwhelmed by the seemingly unsolvable formation before her.
Lin Yu was also absorbed in studying the runes. Suddenly, his eyes lit up, as if he had discovered a new world. "Suna, look at the arrangement of these runes. They're somewhat related to what we saw before on the mysterious person's magic circle and the Gu beast. Perhaps we can try to decipher them using the same method," he said excitedly, a glimmer of hope igniting in his heart.
Suna's eyes lit up, as if she had grasped a lifeline in the darkness. "You mean touching the runes in the same order as before? But there are more and more runes here, and we must be careful. A single mistake could lead to unexpected consequences." Her eyes were filled with both anticipation and worry. She knew that in this forbidden land, where dangers lurked everywhere, even the slightest mistake could lead them to irretrievable doom.
The two carefully touched the runes in the order they had deduced. Each time they touched a rune, it flickered and emitted a gentle humming sound, as if responding to their touch. As the runes were triggered one by one, the energy barrier began to tremble slightly, and the previously stable light became flickering, as if in its final struggle.
Just when they thought they were about to crack it, suddenly, a powerful electric current shot out from the rune like lightning and hit Lin Yu directly. Lin Yu felt a strong numbness all over his body, as if countless steel needles were piercing his body at the same time. He lost control of his body and almost fell heavily to the ground.
"Lin Yu! How are you?" Suna asked anxiously, her voice filled with concern and fear. She hurried forward and used all her strength to support Lin Yu, looking at him with worry in her eyes.
Lin Yu gritted his teeth, enduring the excruciating pain. "I'm fine. Maybe the order is wrong. Let's think about it more carefully." His voice trembled slightly, but he remained firm. At this moment, he was filled with self-blame, blaming himself for his negligence, but he also knew that now was not the time to be discouraged. He had to find a solution quickly. He tried to recall the details of the runes he had seen earlier, his mind racing in extreme pain.
After much thought, Lin Yu finally realized they had overlooked the direction of a rune. "Suna, the direction of this rune is different from the previous one. Let's start over," he said, hope rekindled in his eyes.
This time, they touched the runes more cautiously, following the adjusted sequence. With each rune, they held their breath, their heartbeats quickening. As the last rune was triggered, the energy barrier finally dissipated. In that instant, it felt as if time had stopped, and the tension between the two finally eased a little.
