New signs, unknown journey
Filled with longing for the unknown, Lin Yu and Suna bid farewell to the ancient town, which had been revitalized under their care, and resolutely embarked on a new journey. The winding path weaved through the lush mountain forest like a sleeping dragon. Within the forest, the trees were lush and leafy, and sunlight filtered through the gaps between the leaves, creating patches of light and shadow, like a dreamy puzzle. Birds sang cheerfully in the branches, their clear songs echoing one after another, as if offering beautiful blessings for their adventurous journey. Yet, a vague sense of unease welled up in Lin Yu's heart, a lingering unease that followed him like a ghost. Although everything around him seemed so peaceful and tranquil, an inexplicable worry lingered in his heart, lingering.
"Suna, I have a feeling something's about to happen, and I'm uneasy." Lin Yu frowned slightly, his deep eyes fixed on the winding road ahead, and his tone was filled with an indescribable heaviness. His intuition had always been sharp, and his past adventures had made him not take this inexplicable uneasiness lightly.
Su Na patted Lin Yu's shoulder gently, trying to dispel the gloom in his heart, and comforted him: "Maybe it's the thrilling adventures you experienced in the ancient town before that made your nerves tense. We have just successfully resolved the crisis in the ancient town. How could we run into trouble again so soon? Don't worry too much." Su Na's voice was gentle and firm, and her eyes were full of trust and encouragement, hoping that Lin Yu could put aside his worries.
Despite Suna's reassurance, Lin Yu's uneasiness didn't dissipate; instead, it intensified. They continued along the path and soon arrived at a quiet and peaceful village. Surrounded by green hills, the village was a scene of tranquility and pastoral beauty, with smoke rising from the scattered houses. Upon seeing the two outsiders, Lin Yu and Suna, the villagers enthusiastically surrounded them and greeted them. However, Lin Yu keenly sensed that beneath the villagers' outward hospitality, there seemed to be a subtle hint of worry in their eyes, as if something heavy was weighing on their hearts.
After Lin Yu and Suna exchanged pleasantries with the villagers, Lin Yu found an opportunity to strike up a conversation with a white-haired elder. The elder had a kind face, but his eyes betrayed a deep sense of fatigue and worry. When Lin Yu inquired, the elder sighed helplessly and slowly recounted some strange phenomena that had recently occurred in the village. It turned out that every full-moon night, an eerie wailing sound would be heard from the forest behind the village. The sound was mournful and mournful, like the desperate wail of someone in endless pain. At first, the villagers thought it was just the cry of a wild animal in the forest and paid it no attention. But as time went on, those who went to investigate found nothing, yet the eerie wailing continued, punctually, every full-moon night. Over time, everyone grew afraid of the forest and no longer dared approach it.
"If you have any way, please help us. This strange noise has made everyone panic and unable to sleep well at night. A good day has been disrupted." The old man said worriedly, his eyes full of helplessness and expectation, as if Lin Yu and Suna were their last hope.
Lin Yu and Su Na exchanged a glance, seeing the same determination in each other's eyes. Lin Yu said solemnly, "Don't worry, old man. We'll go and take a look. Perhaps we can find the cause and restore the village to its former peace." Lin Yu's voice was firm and powerful, giving people an inexplicable sense of security.
At night, the bright moon hung high in the pitch-black sky, like a giant silver lamp, casting a cool, soft glow, shrouding the entire world in a silvery white. Lin Yu and Suna took advantage of the moonlight and journeyed to the forest behind the village. The forest, illuminated by the moonlight, seemed exceptionally quiet and mysterious, as if hiding countless unknown secrets. The occasional chirping of insects, remarkably clear in the stillness of the night, added to the mysterious and eerie atmosphere. They cautiously advanced deeper into the forest, following a narrow, winding path. Moonlight filtered through the interlaced leaves, casting patches of shimmering light and shadow on the ground, resembling an abstract painting. These shadows swayed in the breeze, seeming to have life, bringing a chill to the heart.
Suddenly, a sharp, cold wind blew, slicing across Lin Yu and Suna's cheeks like an icy blade, sending shivers down their spines. Then, a chilling, eerie cry echoed faintly through the silent forest. Its voice, mournful and desolate, resembled a desperate cry from the depths of Hell, piercing their eardrums and causing their hearts to suddenly tighten. Lin Yu quickly tightened his grip on the sword, its blade gleaming with a cold light, as if responding to its master's warning. Suna also immediately summoned poisonous insects, which flew out from her sleeves, circling and dancing in the air, making a buzzing sound, as if bracing themselves for the impending, unknown danger.
"This sound doesn't sound like that of an ordinary wild beast. It sounds more like someone being tortured, and there is a deep resentment in this sound." Lin Yu lowered his voice and said solemnly, his eyes vigilantly searching for the source of the sound in the darkness, not missing any slight movement.
Suna nodded slightly, agreeing with Lin Yu's assessment. She concentrated, directing the insect to hover in the air, trying to detect any abnormalities around her. However, aside from the dense trees and the pervasive, gloomy fog, everything seemed peaceful, yet something inexplicably strange lingered. The cries were intermittent, elusive, ghostly, as if deliberately playing hide-and-seek with them, keeping everyone on edge.
They cautiously advanced, following the general direction of the sound. Each step was taken with extreme caution, fearing to alert the unknown danger lurking in the darkness. Suddenly, Suna's insects seemed to have discovered something and, like soldiers receiving urgent orders, quickly took off in one direction. Lin Yu and Suna exchanged a glance and followed without hesitation. In an open meadow, they spotted an object emitting a faint glow. The light, like a faint blue will-o'-the-wisp, flickered in the darkness, giving off a mysterious and eerie feeling.
