Pursuit in the fog, mysterious help
Lin Yu and Suna fled for their lives along the narrow, winding path deep in the forest. The fog around them seemed like layer after layer of thick, airtight white curtains, tightly enveloping them and making it difficult to breathe. The footsteps of their pursuers behind them were like dense drumbeats, approaching incessantly. The chaotic yet oppressive sound reverberated relentlessly in the eerily silent forest, as if every step trod heavily on their fragile nerves.
"Running like this isn't a solution. They'll catch up soon," Lin Yu said with difficulty, gasping for breath. The long run had left his lungs on fire, his heart pounding in his chest, as if it would burst through the air in the next second. His legs felt heavy as if they were filled with lead, and every step required immense effort. But his will to survive and his obsession with the gem forced him to endure the fatigue, not daring to rest for even a moment.
Suna was equally exhausted, nearly collapsing. Sweat streamed down her forehead like a stream, soaking her clothes. "But what can we do? This forest is shrouded in mist. There's no place to hide," she replied anxiously, a hint of undisguised despair in her voice. In this vast fog, it seemed as if every corner lurked an unknown danger, and they were like two lost lambs, vulnerable to being devoured by their pursuers at any moment.
At this critical moment, Lin Yu's gaze was suddenly drawn to a dense, almost insanely dense thorn bush ahead. The bush grew wildly, its spikes gleaming coldly in the dim light, like countless pairs of vigilant eyes, a formidable sight. "Perhaps we can hide in that thorn bush. They might think we're running further," Lin Yu pointed with a trembling finger, his voice filled with a desperate determination.
Suna hesitated, looking at the thorn bush with an instinctive fear. The sharp thorns seemed to have already conjured up a painful image of being pricked in her mind, but the desperate situation left her with no choice but to grit her teeth and nod in agreement. The two approached the thorn bush cautiously, each step filled with trepidation. They tried to keep their footsteps light, but the subtle sound of fallen leaves piercing the silence was particularly jarring, like a signal to their pursuers.
The moment they entered the thornbush, the thorns mercilessly scratched their skin, a sharp stinging sensation instantly hitting them, and bloody marks quickly appeared on their arms and cheeks. But at this moment, they could only endure the excruciating pain, not daring to make a sound, even breathing became cautious. The thornbush was filled with a damp and decaying smell, like the mouth of an all-consuming demon. They were like two helpless prey, forced to take shelter in this dangerous shelter.
The tracker's voice was getting closer and closer, and every word was like a heavy hammer, hitting Lin Yu and Suna's hearts hard. They could clearly hear the various sounds made by the tracker as they searched nearby, the sound of footsteps moving back and forth, the sound of branches being broken, and their whispered conversations.
"Where will they go? Are they really going to continue running deep into the forest?" A rough and hoarse voice sounded, with a hint of doubt and anxiety in it.
"Hmph, they definitely can't get far. This forest is full of dangers, and they can't escape even if they have wings. Keep looking!" Another sharp and ruthless voice responded, the tone full of confidence and unquestionable.
Lin Yu and Suna hid in the thorn bushes, not daring to breathe. The sound of their heartbeats was particularly loud in the silence, as if it would give them away. They hugged each other tightly, their hands tightly gripping their weapons, their joints white with the effort, ready to deal with any possible fatal danger. The footsteps of the pursuers were getting closer and closer, and each step felt like a step on their hearts, tightening their nerves to the limit.
At this suffocating moment, a poisonous insect suddenly flew out from Suna's sleeve. Suna was startled and subconsciously reached out to grab the insect, but it was too late. The insect circled in mid-air, making a faint buzzing sound that was particularly abrupt in the silent environment.
"What's that sound?" The tracker seemed to have heard the sound of the insect and immediately became alert, striding towards the thorn bush.
Lin Yu and Suna's hearts instantly rose to their throats, threatening to burst out at any second. They hugged each other tightly, their bodies trembling with fear and tension. They gripped their weapons even tighter, their gaze fixed on the approaching figure outside the thorn bush. The pursuer's footsteps drew closer, each step like a hammer hammering at their souls. The shadow of death seemed to loom over them.
Just as the trackers were about to reach the thorn bush, a gust of wind swept in without warning, like a tsunami. The wind howled like the roar of countless evil spirits, shaking the surrounding trees wildly and rustling their branches, as if the entire forest were struggling in agony. The trackers were caught off guard by the sudden gust of wind, instinctively shielding their eyes with their hands and struggling to keep their balance in the strong wind.
After the storm passed, the trackers were surprised to find a mysterious figure in a black robe appearing before them. He stood tall and imposing, like an unshakable mountain. His face was completely hidden by the shadow of his hood, making it impossible to see his features. However, a powerful and mysterious aura emanated from him, as if from another mysterious world, exuding an endless depth and majesty that filled them with awe.
