Chapter 281: Shadow Exploration, Castle Mystery

Shadow Quest, Castle Puzzle

Lin Yu and Suna stood guard at the cave entrance for a long, tense moment. The surroundings were as quiet as if time had stood still. Aside from the occasional rustle of the wind, no unusual movement was heard. Lin Yu frowned slightly, weighing the pros and cons. Finally, he whispered to Suna, "I'll go out and take a look. Don't make a sound here. If there's any danger, find a place to hide. Remember, protect yourself." Suna clutched Lin Yu's hand tightly, her hand trembling slightly with nervousness. Worry filled her eyes, but she nodded firmly, her voice trembling slightly as she said, "Be careful. I'll wait for you to come back."

Lin Yu carefully squeezed his way through the cracks between the rocks and stepped into the forest, shrouded in the gentle yet eerie glow of moonlight. Moonlight filtered through the intricate crevices of the branches and leaves, casting patches of shimmering light and shadow on the ground, like a painting shattered by time, each speck of light seeming to conceal an unknown secret. He tried to walk lightly, each step like testing an unknown trap. The gentle scraping of his soles against the ground made a subtle sound, which seemed infinitely amplified in the silent night. His eyes, like a pair of eagles in the darkness, were keen, diligently catching any clue that might reveal danger.

Lin Yu walked slowly in the direction where the shadow disappeared. The surrounding trees were like a group of whispering ghosts in the night wind, swaying gently and making rustling sounds, as if telling secrets that had been buried for ages. Suddenly, he noticed some strange footprints on the ground in front of him. The footprints were not large, but their shapes were extremely strange. They were neither the regular shapes of ordinary humans nor the footprints of common beasts. The edges of the footprints had some irregular curves, and the lines in the middle were even more chaotic. Lin Yu's heart suddenly tightened, and a chill slowly climbed up his spine. Could it be that this shadow was not human? What kind of mysterious and dangerous existence could it be?

He continued to follow the footprints, his heart beating violently with the rhythm of his steps. As he went deeper, he came to a relatively open area. The trees here were sparser, and the moonlight shone through without reservation, making everything around him appear exceptionally clear. However, the footprints disappeared without a trace here, as if the dark shadow had evaporated into thin air. But Lin Yu could clearly sense a strange aura, a cold and eerie aura, as if emanating from the depths of hell, which gave him goose bumps.

He glanced around warily, his nerves as tense as a string about to snap. Suddenly, a dark figure leaped from the branch above him with lightning speed, swift as a streak of black lightning streaking through the night sky. Lin Yu reacted instinctively, quickly dodging to the side, instantly drawing his sword and slashing at the shadow. The sword gleamed coldly in the moonlight, whistling away with the wind. The shadow was incredibly agile, twisting in mid-air, cleverly dodging Lin Yu's attack and landing lightly on the ground. Lin Yu looked closely and saw that it was a nimble black panther.

This black panther was completely different from the one they had encountered before. Its eyes shone with a faint blue light, like two will-o'-the-wisp flames burning in the darkness, exuding a mysterious and cold aura. Its fur seemed to be covered in a layer of light mist, which slightly surged with its breathing and movements, making it look even more mysterious and unpredictable. The black panther stood firmly on the ground, its limbs slightly bent, ready to attack at any time. It stared at Lin Yu and let out a low and dull roar from its throat. That roar seemed to be a warning from the depths of its soul, warning Lin Yu not to approach easily.

Lin Yu's mind was filled with doubts. Why did this black panther appear here? What was the connection between it and the black shadow that flashed by? Could it be that all this was inextricably linked to the secret of the gem? Just as Lin Yu fell into deep thought, trying to sort out a clue from his chaotic thoughts, the black panther suddenly turned around without warning and ran towards the depths of the forest. Its figure was like a black phantom in the moonlight, and it quickly disappeared from Lin Yu's sight. Lin Yu hesitated for a moment, and a strong curiosity and desire for the truth drove him to decide to follow and see. He followed the black panther closely, shuttling through the forest. The black panther was extremely fast, like a ghost shuttling through the darkness, but Lin Yu, relying on his daily agility, never lost it.

After running for an unknown amount of time, an ancient castle appeared in front of them. In the moonlight, the castle stood like a silent giant, quietly standing there, looking eerie and mysterious. The castle walls were covered with thick moss, as if it had been covered with a green cloak by time. The spires of the towers stood out against the night sky, like sharp swords piercing the clouds. An old and decayed atmosphere permeated the air around the castle, as if it had been forgotten by time for a long time. The black panther ran to the front of the castle and suddenly stopped. It turned its head and glanced at Lin Yu with its deep blue eyes, which seemed to contain some indescribable meaning, and then disappeared into the shadow of the castle.

Lin Yu approached the castle and found its gate ajar, a faint light glimmering through the crack. The light was dim and flickering, as if it could go out at any moment, adding a touch of mystery and eeriness to the castle. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nervousness, but his heartbeat continued to accelerate uncontrollably. He slowly reached out and pushed the heavy door. With a creak, the sound of the hinges was particularly harsh in the still night, as if to break the castle's long-standing silence. The sound echoed throughout the empty castle, as if awakening something dormant in the darkness.

Entering the castle, an air of antiquity washed over me, a scent of dust, decay, and the marks of time. On the walls hung tattered portraits, their faces blurred, as if ruthlessly erased by time. These portraits appeared particularly eerie in the dim light, their figures' silhouettes distorted by the light and shadow, as if they might step out of the paintings at any moment.
