Chapter 284: Exploring the Temple, the Mysterious Disc

Temple exploration, mysterious disc

Lin Yu and Suna clung to each other, staring warily at the temple gate, not daring to breathe, as if the slightest movement would bring about an unknown terror. Their ears, like sensitive radar, diligently picked up even the slightest sound outside the temple. Time seemed to freeze, and every second passed in an inordinately long time. After a long time, apart from the occasional rustling of spiders as they retreated, there was no other unusual sound outside the temple. Lin Yu finally breathed a sigh of relief, but his taut nerves remained tense. He knew that in this strange place, danger could strike again at any time.

"This temple seems to be able to keep out those spiders, but I wonder if there are any other dangers." Lin Yu whispered, his voice extremely low, as if he was afraid to disturb the mysterious power hidden in the temple. His eyes swept around the temple, not missing any corner. Every inch of shadow seemed to hide an unknown danger.

Suna nodded vigorously in agreement, her gaze involuntarily falling on the statue in the center. Its blurred face seemed shrouded in a mysterious veil of time, making it impossible to glimpse its true appearance. The disc held in the statue's hands exuded an indescribable strangeness, which made her curious and vaguely uneasy. "This statue and disc look very strange. What was originally supposed to be on the disc?" Suna murmured softly, her voice as gentle as a breeze, as if she were asking Lin Yu, or perhaps she was talking to herself, trying to find a clue from her mumbling.

Lin Yu slowly approached the statue, his footsteps were extremely light, and every step seemed to be testing the bottom line of the temple. He moved closer to the statue and looked at the disc carefully, trying to find some clues from it. The surface of the disc was as smooth as a mirror, and it shimmered faintly in the dim light, as if telling an ancient story. There were some complex lines engraved on it, and the lines were winding and twisting like a maze, dazzling the eyes. Lin Yu stretched out his hand and gently touched the lines with his fingers, feeling their ups and downs, trying to find something different from the others. Suddenly, his fingers felt that the touch of one of the lines was different from the others. This line seemed to be slightly raised, as if deliberately attracting his attention.

"Suna, look here, these lines seem to have a mystery." Lin Yu said, with a glimmer of excitement in his eyes, as if he saw a ray of light in the darkness.

Suna hurried over, her eyes filled with anticipation and curiosity. Together, they studied the raised lines, their gaze fixed on them as if trying to see through them. Following the lines, they discovered that they seemed to point to a small hole on the edge of the disc. The hole was extremely small, and difficult to spot without careful observation. Lin Yu pondered for a moment, knowing that every judgment at this moment was crucial, and the slightest mistake could trigger danger. He pulled out a slender tool from his bosom, which gleamed coldly in the dim light. Carefully, he inserted the tool into the small hole, his hand trembling slightly as he gently turned it.

The disc creaked with a subtle sound, resonant in the silent temple, like the turning of a key unlocking a mysterious world. Immediately afterwards, the disc's previously tightly connected lines began to slowly shift, as if imbued with life. The lines intertwined and reorganized, and gradually, a new pattern emerged before their eyes. This pattern resembled a phoenix spreading its wings, its form so lifelike that it seemed poised to burst through the disc and soar into the sky. A depression formed over the phoenix's eye, seemingly intended to be embedded within. Its shape and size seemed tailor-made for a specific object.

"This phoenix pattern and the depression must have a deeper meaning. Perhaps what we're looking for could be placed here," Lin Yu said, his brow furrowed slightly. His mind raced, trying to recall any objects they had encountered before, hoping to find something that matched. He knew this might be the key to finding the next gem.

Suna was also lost in thought, her eyes revealing concentration and contemplation. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, as if a flash of inspiration had struck her. "Lin Yu, could the gem we obtained earlier be related to this depression?" she asked, her voice tinged with excitement and anticipation.

Lin Yu's heart moved, and his eyes instantly became bright. He quickly took out the gem he had obtained before. The gem flickered with a soft light in his hand, as if responding to their guess. He placed the gem on the depression of the phoenix's eyes. As soon as the gem touched the depression, it emitted a soft light, and the light spread out like water waves. The light gradually became stronger, illuminating the entire temple. The originally dim temple instantly became as bright as day. At the same time, the statue's arm began to slowly rise. The movement was slow and heavy, as if carrying a thousand years of time. As the statue's arm rose, a secret compartment under the statue's base was revealed. The secret compartment was hidden very cleverly, and it would not have been discovered if the statue's arm had not been raised.

"Looks like we found the right place," Lin Yu said excitedly, a hint of relief in his voice. He squatted down and carefully opened the secret compartment. Inside was a stone slab engraved with runes. The runes on the slab shimmered with a mysterious light, and the runes seemed to have life, dancing and flickering on the stone. The runes were twisted and complex, as if written in an ancient language beyond human comprehension, telling ancient and mysterious secrets.

The moment Lin Yu picked up the slate, the temple suddenly began to shake violently, as if struck by an earthquake. The patterns on the walls seemed to come alive, and strange creatures and mysterious symbols danced across the walls, emitting an eerie glow. The patterns of strange creatures seemed to break free from the walls and pounce on them, while the mysterious symbols swirled in the air, emitting a chilling aura. "Oh no! We might have triggered some kind of trap," Lin Yu shouted, his voice faint in the shaking temple. He quickly put the slate away, held Suna's hand tightly, his eyes filled with anxiety and vigilance, and began to search for a safe place to hide.
