Chapter 307: Exploring the Ruins and Fighting the Scorpion King

Explore the ruins and fight the Scorpion King

Armed with the second artifact and unwavering faith, Lin Yu, Suna, and Leng Xuan resolutely set out for the ancient ruins of the lower Yellow River. Along the way, their emotions surged like a turbulent tide, a mingling of excitement and nervousness. Excitement grew because, after countless trials and tribulations, they were inching closer to their grand goal of gathering all three artifacts and successfully sealing the Yellow River Giant Turtle. Victory seemed imminent. Yet, a wave of anxiety also clung to them, for they knew the ancient ruins of the lower Yellow River were a labyrinth of unknown terrors, surely harbouring even more terrifying and unpredictable dangers. Especially the enormous scorpion guarding the final artifact—just imagining its terrifying power was enough to send chills down one's spine.

When they finally reached the ancient ruins, the scene before them was like a scene from hell, their hearts sinking to the depths. A thick, leaden haze enveloped the ruins, a vast black curtain that sealed them off from the outside world, as if this were a corner forgotten by the sun, a place of death where neither time nor life dared to tread. A pungent, sickening smell of decay permeated the air, a scent like the accumulated death and despair of countless years. Every breath felt like devouring decayed memories. The tall stone gate stood ajar, like the mouth of a monstrous beast, ready to devour any uninvited trespasser. The stone gate was covered in garbled runes, like souls struggling in the river of time, flickering with a faint, eerie light, as if speaking an ancient, evil spell.

"This place feels even more eerie than the icy peaks and canyons we've been to." Suna's voice trembled unconsciously, like a leaf shivering in the cold wind. She clutched Lin Yu's arm tightly, her fingers turning white from the force, her eyes filled with fear and uneasiness. Everything here made her feel creepy, as if countless pairs of eyes were watching their every move in the darkness.

Lin Yu patted Suna's hand, trying to convey his composure to her. He comforted her, "Don't be afraid, Suna. We've come this far, overcoming all the obstacles along the way. We must not retreat at this final moment. We will succeed in finding the final artifact and completing our mission." Although he tried to maintain a calm demeanor on the surface, a chilling feeling rose within him. He knew that the challenge before them might be the most severe they had faced to date, but he also understood the responsibility he shouldered and could not let Suna and Leng Xuan despair.

Leng Xuan, like a vigilant cheetah, gripped the Shadow Moon Blade tightly. The blade gleamed with an icy gleam in the dim light, as if echoing the eerie atmosphere. His eyes scanned the surroundings warily, not missing any subtle movement or suspicious signs. He said, "Everyone, be cautious. These ruins are filled with strangeness and danger. The giant scorpion might be lurking in some dark corner, like the Grim Reaper, ready to launch a fatal attack. We cannot afford to slack off."

With apprehension, the three of them cautiously passed through the stone gate and slowly stepped into the ruins. The light inside was as dim as the abyss of midnight, with only a few faint, almost negligible rays of light struggling to filter through the cracks in the dilapidated roof, casting irregular patches of light on the ground, like pieces of shattered hope. Around them stood various ancient and bizarre stone statues, their faces long obscured by the erosion of time, leaving only hideous and distorted outlines, as if they had endured endless pain and torture in life, and their strange gestures spoke of the bloodshed and horror of the past. These stone statues seemed alive, giving the illusion of movement in the dim light, which was terrifying.

Suddenly, Leng Xuan stopped dead in his tracks, his body tensing like a drawn bow. He lowered his voice and spoke gravely, "Listen! There's movement." Everyone, as if under a spell, held their breath, pricked up their ears, and listened intently. A rustling sound emanated from the darkness ahead. It sounded like countless tiny claws crawling across the rough ground, like the Grim Reaper slowly dragging his scythe through the darkness—a chilling sensation.

"Is that the scorpion?" Suna asked nervously, her voice so low it was almost swallowed by the eerie silence. Her lips trembled slightly, and her eyes were filled with fear. At this moment, she felt as if she was in a huge trap, and the unknown danger was approaching them step by step.

Lin Yu gripped his sword tightly, his knuckles whitening from the strain. He nodded slightly, signaling everyone to prepare for battle. As the rustling sound grew closer, it seemed to beat a rhythm to their heartbeats, causing them to involuntarily accelerate. A massive scorpion slowly emerged from the darkness, like a demon awakened from the depths of hell. Its body was the size of a room, its shell as hard as steel. In the dim light, it gleamed with a cold metallic sheen, like an indestructible suit of black armor. Its two massive pincers, like two enormous guillotines, swung through the air, making sharp, piercing "crackling" sounds, as if issuing a naked rebuke. Its tail rose high, like a towering flagpole, its stinger dripping with green venom. The venom fell to the ground, instantly corroding small, smoking pits with a sizzling sound, as if the earth itself groaned in pain from the deadly venom.
