Chapter 314: The Fog of the Broken Road

The fog of the dead-end road

In the dimly lit office of Bureau 749, the walls were covered with documents and photos of various mysterious incidents, each image seemingly telling a strange and untold story. Lin Yu, an investigator renowned for his intelligence and courage within Bureau 749, was bent over his desk, sorting through the files of a case. His brow furrowed slightly, his eyes focused, oblivious to his surroundings.

Suddenly, the office door creaked open, sending a gust of cold wind howling in, carrying a hint of the chill from the corridor. Lin Yu instinctively looked up, only to see his superior trudging in with heavy steps. His expression was as solemn as steel, a document clutched tightly in his hand. Lin Yu's heart trembled; from his superior's expression, he sensed another difficult task was approaching.

"Lin Yu," the leader's voice was low and serious, echoing in the silent office, "This is a case that occurred on a dead-end road in Huangquan Village, Qujing, Yunnan. The circumstances are extremely strange. After careful consideration, the bureau decided to let you investigate." As he spoke, the leader placed the document heavily on Lin Yu's desk.

Lin Yu nodded slightly, his eyes quickly falling on the document. He slowly opened the document, and the contents inside made his eyes sharp instantly. The document recorded in detail a series of bizarre deaths that occurred on the Dead End Highway, each of which was horrifying. Those words seemed to have magic, bringing Lin Yu into a world full of fear and mystery. There were also strange phenomena described by villagers and drivers, such as strange crying and bizarre beheading scenes. These descriptions caused ripples in Lin Yu's heart. He knew very well that this was another challenging task, and perhaps it would uncover some unknown secrets. "Yes! I guarantee to complete the task." Lin Yu answered firmly, with an unquestionable determination in his voice.

Lin Yu quickly packed his bag, filled with the bureau's various high-tech detection equipment. The equipment gleamed with metallic luster, as if waiting to be used. He set off for Huangquan Village in Qujing, Yunnan. Along the way, Lin Yu watched the scenery speed by out the car window, his mind constantly pondering the upcoming case. He knew that a huge mystery awaited him, and he would have to use his wisdom and courage to solve it.

When he arrived at Huangquan Village, an oppressive atmosphere overwhelmed him, as if an invisible haze had enveloped the entire village. The village was small, and the well-proportioned houses looked somewhat shabby, their walls covered with the marks of time. The villagers' faces were filled with a hint of worry and fear, their eyes revealing a reverence for the unknown. Lin Yu entered the village and immediately attracted the villagers' attention. They whispered to each other and regarded the outsider with wary eyes.

Lin Yu found several villagers who had experienced the headless corpse incident on the bus. His presence made the villagers' already tense expressions even more solemn. An old man trembled as he walked up to Lin Yu. His face was covered with wrinkles, and each line seemed to tell the vicissitudes of life. "Comrade Lin," the old man's voice was hoarse and trembling, "this road is really evil. Over the years, countless people have lost their lives here. The village invited Taoist priests to perform rituals, but it only brought temporary peace. There must be something unclean at work behind this." As the old man spoke, he pointed in the direction of the winding mountain road in the distance, his eyes filled with fear.

Lin Yu carefully recorded the old man's words, his eyes revealing concentration and determination. "Don't be afraid, old man. I will definitely find out everything. Can you describe the situation in more detail?" Lin Yu said softly, trying to calm the old man down.

The old man took a deep breath and said slowly: "That day, everyone on the bus was drowsy. Suddenly, we heard a scream. Everyone turned around and saw that the passenger's head was gone, and blood was gushing out of his neck like a fountain. That scene was really terrible." The old man's body trembled involuntarily as he recalled the horrific scene.

Lin Yu nodded and went back to the bus driver. When the driver saw Lin Yu, a complex look flashed across his eyes, a mixture of fear and anticipation. "Master, can you tell me more about the legends of the Dead End Highway? And you said you hear strange cries every time you pass by. Can you elaborate?" Lin Yu asked.

The driver frowned, looked around, and said in a low voice: "Comrade Lin, it's not that I'm superstitious, this road is really weird. In the past, this was a road for horse caravans. The slopes are steep and the turns are sharp. Many people died here. Later, the government built a highway, but accidents still happened frequently. Every time I drive by, especially at night, I can always hear that crying, as if someone is crying out for injustice, which makes people feel creepy." The driver's voice trembled slightly, as if the weird crying was echoing in his ears at this moment.

Lin Yu pondered, could there really be a supernatural force at work? Or were there other, unknown reasons? There must be some truth hidden behind these legends and strange phenomena, and he had to find it.

To gather more clues, Lin Yu decided to personally walk the winding mountain road. He carefully surveyed the route, taking each step with caution. The trees along the road were lush and verdant, yet exuded an eerie atmosphere. Occasionally, a few crows flew overhead, their croaking cries adding a touch of mystery to this eerie land.

Soon, Lin Yu spotted the metal sign perched on the cliffside. Though the blood had dried, it still exuded an eerie air. The sign swayed gently in the breeze, creaking and creaking, as if telling a tragic story. He used specialized equipment to examine the sign, emitting a faint light, but the results showed nothing unusual. Lin Yu wondered, could it be just an ordinary sign? And how could he explain the bizarre beheadings?
