Call of the Death Vault
Lin Yu had just returned to Bureau 749, and before he could even catch his breath, he was swept into a new, mysterious vortex. His superior, with heavy steps and a look like the gloom before a storm, walked straight into Lin Yu's office and placed a heavy file on his desk with a thud.
"Lin Yu, this is an urgent situation. A series of horrific disappearances has occurred in a remote town in a neighboring province." The leader's brows furrowed, his eyes filled with worry. "All the missing persons have been last seen in a cellar beneath an abandoned old house outside the town. The locals call it the 'Death Cellar,' and the bureau has reason to suspect supernatural influences. After careful consideration, we've decided that you are the perfect person to investigate this matter."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yu's heart trembled. He quickly flipped through the files, scanning the information within with a sharp gaze. What came into view were photos of the missing persons, their faces distorted, their expressions of fear frozen in time. Their wide eyes and open mouths seemed to tell of the extreme horror they witnessed before their lives were gone. The files contained detailed information about the missing persons. The time span of their disappearances ranged from a few months to several years. The missing persons varied in age and gender, with no apparent pattern. However, the location of their disappearance was remarkably consistent—around the death cellar. There were also testimonies from local residents who described hearing eerie noises when passing near the cellar at night, like painful groans or desperate cries, a chilling experience.
"Yes! I guarantee to complete the mission." Lin Yu's tone was firm, his eyes showing his usual courage and determination. He took on this difficult mission without any hesitation.
Soon, Lin Yu carefully selected several experienced and capable team members, and the group hurriedly embarked on a journey to the remote town. Along the way, the wheels rolled, and the scenery outside the window flashed by like a slide show, but Lin Yu had no time to appreciate it. He stared at the file in his hands, his mind a tangled mess, a crisscross of thoughts. "What exactly is this death vault? Why does it have such a powerful magic that so many people have mysteriously disappeared? What unspeakable secrets are hidden behind it?" He whispered to himself, his brows furrowed in a deep frown.
Finally, they arrived at this eerie town. As soon as they entered, an oppressive, eerie atmosphere overwhelmed them like a tide. The streets were deserted, as if drained of life, with almost no sign of pedestrians. The few passersby who occasionally passed by were hurried, their steps frantic, their eyes revealing a deep fear, as if something terrifying was chasing them.
Lin Yu and his companions went straight to the town government to inquire about the situation from the mayor. Upon seeing them, the mayor seemed to have seen a savior, but the worry on his face did not lessen in the slightest. He anxiously said, "Comrade Lin, you're finally here. This death cellar is truly eerie! All sorts of strange noises have been heard from it. Sometimes it sounds like someone weeping miserably, the voices so plaintive they give you goosebumps; other times it sounds like someone screaming in despair, as if suffering endless torture. As soon as you get close to that cellar, you feel like countless pairs of eyes are staring at you in the darkness. You feel uneasy and your skin crawls."
Lin Yu listened attentively to the mayor's account with a solemn expression, his mind growing increasingly certain that this matter was anything but ordinary. "Mayor, rest assured, we will do our utmost to get to the bottom of this matter. Could you please tell us in detail about the location and general conditions of the cellar?" Lin Yu's voice was steady and powerful, giving people an inexplicable sense of reassurance.
The mayor nodded quickly and described the cellar's location and surroundings in detail. It turned out that the abandoned house was once the residence of a wealthy businessman. However, for unknown reasons, the businessman's entire family suddenly died overnight, in extremely horrific circumstances. The house has been abandoned and neglected for many years. As time passed, the terrifying legends about the old house and the cellar became more and more eerie in the town. Some said that eerie lights could be seen flickering in the house at night, and some said that eerie laughter could be heard coming from the cellar. These legends made the locals avoid the house, and the old house gradually became a taboo in the town.
Under the guidance of the mayor, Lin Yu and his team arrived at the abandoned old house. The gate was dilapidated and rickety, as if a gust of wind could blow it down. The paint on the door had long since peeled off, revealing the rotten wooden boards, like cracked lips, silently telling of the vicissitudes of time. The yard was overgrown with weeds, more than a meter tall, swaying wildly in the wind like countless dancing ghost hands. The walls were covered with moss, a dark green, exuding a sickening odor of decay.
Lin Yu took a deep breath and stepped into the courtyard first. His team members followed closely behind him, clutching various advanced detection equipment tightly in their hands, their eyes scanning the surroundings vigilantly, not missing any slight movement. Their footsteps were light, but they were particularly loud in the silent courtyard, and every step felt like stepping on their own heartbeats.
They searched the old house carefully, leaving no corner unturned. Finally, in a side room of the old house, they found the entrance to the cellar. The entrance was partially blocked by a huge stone slab, which was engraved with strange symbols. Those symbols were twisted and winding, like some ancient and mysterious text, or like twisted strange insects, exuding a mysterious and gloomy atmosphere. Lin Yu squatted down, leaned in to observe the symbols carefully, and an inexplicable sense of familiarity surged in his heart. "These symbols seem to be related to some supernatural events encountered before. Is there some commonality between them? Or is this the key clue to unlocking the secret of the death cellar?" Lin Yu pondered to himself, frowning even tighter.
