Chapter 323
Dangerous traps and a deep exploration of the fog
As soon as Lin Yu heard the horrified cry, his heart felt as if it were being gripped by an icy hand, nearly stopping. His body reacted instantly, and without a second thought, he swerved like lightning towards the nearest team member, pushing them away with all his strength. The sharp ice spikes whizzed past the edge of the team member's clothing, then with a sharp "puff" (swoosh), pierced deeply into the nearby snow. Their sharpness made everything in the world as fragile as tofu before them. Lin Yu's heartbeat accelerated rapidly, and an intense sense of crisis washed over him. "Everyone, be careful! Keep your distance! Pay attention to the ground and your surroundings!" he shouted, his voice trembling slightly in the biting cold, but more than that, it was filled with unwavering determination. His mind was a tangle of thoughts, wondering how many more deadly traps lay ahead. Every step felt like a life-or-death struggle.
Like startled birds, the team members quickly dispersed, their nerves on edge. They moved cautiously, each step a test for an unknown trap. Their eyes fixed on the ground, as if they could see through the snow. "This mechanism is triggered in a completely random pattern. How are we supposed to get through?" one team member whispered, his voice barely concealed, a mixture of nervousness and deep helplessness. His eyes were filled with confusion, and as he gazed at the perilous snowy landscape, a wave of despair welled up within him. Lin Yu's brows knitted together, forming a deep "川" character, his gaze darting around like a hawk, trying to discern the mechanism's pattern in the chaotic situation. His mind raced, searching for past experiences and potential clues. Suddenly, he noticed a subtle connection between the locations where the ice spikes had popped and subtle patterns in the snow. These patterns, now and then, seemed like random traces left by nature, yet also like the deliberate work of some mysterious force.
"Look everyone, these lines could be trigger marks for the traps. Try to avoid them!" Lin Yu shouted, pointing to the faint lines on the snow. His voice echoed through the snowy valley, bringing a glimmer of hope to the team members. They looked in the direction he pointed, nodded, and a glimmer of fighting spirit rekindled in their eyes. Just then, a sharp, cold wind blew by, a shrill whistling sound, as if the giant snow-capped mountain monster was issuing an angry warning. Strange sounds seemed to be mixed in the wind, like someone crying softly, a voice mournful and desolate, as if filled with endless pain; or like someone sneering, a laugh so cold it chilled their spines. The sound echoed through the silent snowy valley, as if countless pairs of eyes were watching them from the darkness, giving them a chill.
A strong sense of foreboding washed over Lin Yu. He instinctively tightened his grip on his weapon, his knuckles turning white from the strain. He surveyed his surroundings warily, watching every subtle movement. "Everyone, be alert! This place is feeling increasingly uneasy," Lin Yu declared, slowly inching forward, each step akin to his own heartbeat. He never dared to take his eyes off the ground or his surroundings, fearing he would miss any sign of danger. Suddenly, the snow not far ahead began to tremble. At first, it was a gentle tremor, like the earth breathing gently, but then the tremors grew stronger, as if a powerful force surged beneath the ground. "Oh no! Another trap!" Lin Yu shouted. Before he could finish his words, another row of ice spikes erupted from the ground, piercing the sky like sharp blades. The ice spikes gleamed coldly in the sunlight, like the Grim Reaper's scythe. Quick-witted and quick-handed, Lin Yu shouted, "Leap!" The team members, upon command, leaped into the air, their bodies arcing through the air. The ice spikes flew past the soles of their feet, and if they were a second slower, they would be pierced.
However, before they could even land, several ice arrows suddenly shot out from the nearby mountainside, hurtling towards the team members like lightning. The ice arrows were so fast that they reached them in the blink of an eye. "Get out of the way!" Lin Yu shouted, twisting his body in mid-air. Drawing on years of combat experience and agility, he narrowly avoided an ice arrow. The ice arrow grazed his arm, leaving a faint mark of blood. The team members also used all their skills, performing thrilling mid-air maneuvers to dodge the ice arrows. While dodging the ice arrow, one team member accidentally hit a protruding ice block, lost his balance, and fell to the ground. Lin Yu's heart tightened, as if he had been hit by a sledgehammer. He rushed over and helped him up. "Are you okay?" Lin Yu asked anxiously, his eyes filled with concern. "I'm fine, Captain. Keep going," the team member said through gritted teeth. Despite the pain on his face, his eyes revealed a resolute determination.
After a difficult evasion, they finally escaped this round of attacks from the traps for the time being. But everyone knew that this was only the beginning, and greater dangers awaited them ahead. They continued to move forward cautiously, each step filled with fear and uneasiness. The eerie atmosphere around them grew stronger, as if an invisible mist had enveloped them tightly. The strange voice became clearer and clearer, as if whispering in their ears, making their nerves nearly collapse. "Captain, I feel like something is following us," a team member said nervously, his voice trembling slightly with fear. His eyes revealed deep fear, and he kept looking back, as if something terrible was following closely behind him. Lin Yu also felt that vague sense of being watched, as if a pair of eyes were watching their every move in the darkness. But he knew that he must not panic at this moment. As the captain, he had to calm everyone's emotions and give the team members confidence. "Don't scare yourself, stay calm and pay attention." Lin Yu said. Although he was a little uneasy in his heart, his voice was still firm and powerful, trying to convey a sense of calmness to the team members.
