Chapter 367: Symbol Puzzle Solved, Hidden Reappearance

Symbol puzzle, Shadow Returns

As Lin Yu and his teammates heard the approaching sound, like demonic footsteps, their nerves tensed like a taut bowstring, ready to snap at any moment. Lin Yu stared intently at the bizarre symbols on the wall, his heart aching. His mind, like a high-speed, overloaded machine, frantically pondered the meaning behind them. He knew full well that these symbols held the key to solving the mystery of the shadows, and perhaps even saving everyone from the brink of death. Yet, the mysterious answer remained elusive, like a fog.

"Everyone, maintain a defensive formation and pay attention to your surroundings," Lin Yu said, trying to keep his voice as low as possible, but it still trembled slightly. He never dared to take his eyes off the symbols, as if the slightest distraction would cause the clue he had finally grasped to slip away. The team members quickly gathered together, back to back, forming a tight defensive circle, vigilantly watching the direction of the sound from deep in the tunnel. In the darkness, the sound seemed to carry with it some unknown and terrifying fear, striking their already fragile nerves again and again. Each sound was like a hammer, hammering their hearts even faster.

Lin Yu tried hard to recall similar symbols he had encountered in previous adventures. Those experiences kept flashing through his mind like blurry old photos. He remembered that those symbols were often closely related to ancient and mysterious rituals, or some kind of forbidden power. But this time the symbols had unique changes, making it difficult for him to grasp. He frowned, beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, and he was as anxious as an ant on a hot pot. He thought to himself: "These symbols must have a specific arrangement logic, like a key hidden in the fog. As long as I find the pattern, maybe I can uncover the secret of the shadow and find a way to defeat it, but what exactly is this damn pattern?"

Suddenly, a flash of lightning struck Lin Yu's mind. He realized that the arrangement of these symbols bore a striking resemblance to a subtle shift in the astrological patterns. He had once seen a similar astrological pattern in an ancient text. It was an extremely rare and mysterious phenomenon, said to be inextricably linked to supernatural forces. Following this line of thought, he re-arranged the symbols according to their corresponding positions in the astrological chart. His heartbeat quickened as his thoughts deepened, as if he were on the verge of discovering the truth. Meanwhile, the strange sound grew closer, as if a long-dormant beast were slowly approaching them. Countless eyes seemed to be watching them from the darkness, making him feel uneasy and covered in goosebumps.

"I think I've found a pattern to the symbols," Lin Yu said excitedly, but a hint of nervousness remained in his voice. He quickly explained to the team members that the symbols might represent a spell to dispel the dark forces, but they needed to be activated in a specific order. A spark of hope ignited in the team members' eyes, but it was quickly overshadowed by fear, as the shadow could attack again at any moment.

Just as Lin Yu was about to activate the symbol, a black shadow, like a flash of black lightning, swathed in endless malice, burst forth from the abyss of darkness once again. Its form was even more blurred than before, as if condensed from pure darkness, yet it exuded an even more powerful and sinister aura. That aura, like a tangible black mist, permeated the entire tunnel, making it difficult to breathe. The shadow let out a sharp roar, echoing through the tunnel like countless sharp blades, piercing everyone's eardrums and threatening to shake their very souls from their bodies.

"Prepare for battle!" Lin Yu shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice small amidst the roar, yet filled with resolve. The team members immediately gripped their weapons, their knuckles white with the effort, ready for battle. Each look revealed a complex mixture of fear and determination, knowing full well that this would be a fight to the death.

The shadow launched the first attack, extending its blade-like claws and slashing at one of the team members with such speed that the attacker barely had time to react. The team member's eyes widened in terror, and he instinctively used his weapon to block. With a clang, the claws collided with the weapon, sending up a shower of sparks. The shadow's immense force numbed the team member's arm, cracking his knuckles and nearly causing him to drop his weapon.

Lin Yu seized the opportunity, roared, and swung his sword at the shadow. The shadow seemed to sense the attack from behind, and like a ghost, it dodged Lin Yu's fierce blow with ease. Then, it spun around and kicked Lin Yu with a powerful kick. Lin Yu was unable to dodge and was hit in the chest. He flew back several meters like a kite with a broken string, falling heavily to the ground, raising a cloud of dust. He felt a sharp pain in his chest, as if his ribs were about to break. A salty taste welled up in his mouth, and blood trickled down from the corner of his mouth.

Seeing this, the team members were extremely anxious and surrounded the shadow, trying to buy time for Lin Yu. Their weapons, filled with anger and fear, rained down on the shadow. However, the shadow was like an illusory ghost, moving freely among the team members' attacks. The weapons hit the shadow, but it was like hitting a cloud of smoke, only stirring up a black ripple, unable to cause any substantial damage. The shadow shuttled freely among the team members, constantly fighting back, and several more team members were injured. The groans of pain echoed in the tunnel.

Lin Yu struggled to his feet. He watched his teammates battling the shadows, his heart aching with anxiety, filled with self-blame and worry. He knew that if this continued, the team members' lives would be in danger, and he had to activate the symbol as soon as possible. He endured the sharp pain in his chest, feeling a piercing pain with every breath, but he could no longer care. He looked at the symbol on the wall again, his eyes filled with determination. Following the pattern he had just discovered, he touched the symbol with his hand, muttering to himself.
