749 Bureau: Exploring the Mystery of the Mental Hospital
After Lin Yu and his team resolved the underground device crisis, they expected a brief period of peace. However, the work of Bureau 749 is always fraught with uncertainty and challenges. Soon after, the bureau received a bizarre report from a certain city: residents of a mental hospital there were hearing terrifying howling noises between midnight and 4 a.m. Local elders recalled that the site of the hospital was once a Japanese bacteriological laboratory, where many brutal experiments were conducted. Lin Yu, realizing the seriousness of the situation and the possibility of paranormal activity, once again led Lao Chen, Professor Li, and Xiao Zhao to the city.
Upon arriving in the city, they immediately headed for the mental hospital. During the day, the asylum looked much like any other hospital. The white building looked slightly dated in the sunlight, and several lush trees surrounded it, casting patches of shadows. Yet, as they approached, they could still sense a faint, eerie aura, as if countless eyes were watching them from the shadows.
Lin Yu looked at the building in front of him and couldn't help feeling a chill in his heart: "There's an indescribable weirdness about this place. The wailing sounds at night must be something special." Old Chen nodded, his expression serious: "Besides, this old site was the Japanese bacteria laboratory. Countless innocent lives were lost here back then. Maybe these wailing sounds are coming from those wronged souls." Professor Li pushed his glasses and added: "In any case, we have to investigate the history of this hospital first to see if we can find any clues." Xiao Zhao gripped the equipment in his hand, eager to try: "No matter what it is, we'll know what's going on when night comes."
They walked into the hospital and explained their purpose to the director. The director was a gray-haired old man with a hint of worry in his eyes: "This matter has troubled us for a long time. Both patients and medical staff are in a panic. I have tried many methods, but to no avail." Lin Yu asked: "Director, can you tell us about the specific history of this hospital? Especially the situation related to the old site." The director sighed and said slowly: "This hospital was rebuilt on the basis of the original bacteria laboratory. It is said that the Japanese conducted various bacteria and human experiments here, and the methods were extremely cruel. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, this place was abandoned for a period of time, and was later converted into a mental hospital. But since its construction, some strange things have often been reported, especially at night, all kinds of weird noises will be heard."
To better understand the situation, Lin Yu and his team decided to explore the hospital. They walked through a long corridor where some of the white paint had peeled off, revealing the mottled surface beneath. From the wards, the murmurs and cries of pain from patients echoed, seemingly echoing the night's wails. In the basement, they discovered some remnants of laboratory equipment. Although much of it was damaged, the bloodshed and brutality of the past were still evident.
Professor Li carefully observed the equipment and said, "These devices are probably left over from the bacterial experiments back then. They seem to still be emitting some strange energy fluctuations. Perhaps these energies are related to the wailing sounds at night." Old Chen found some blurry Japanese documents in the corner and struggled to decipher them. "These documents appear to record some experimental data, but it's been so long that much of the content is no longer clear. However, from the information we have, it seems that the experiments back then involved some kind of sinister ritual, perhaps intended to create a terrifying biological weapon."
As night fell, the atmosphere in the hospital grew increasingly eerie. Lin Yu and the others had prepared early, guarding key locations throughout the hospital. When the clock struck twelve, a chilling wind howled through the hospital, and the entire hospital seemed enveloped in a layer of icy mist. Then, horrifying howls echoed from all directions, their shrill, desperate cries chilling the very bones of the body.
Lin Yu's heart tightened, and he whispered to the team members, "Everyone, pay attention, they're coming!" Xiao Zhao quickly turned on the detection instrument in his hand, and the pointer on the instrument jumped wildly: "Captain, the energy fluctuations nearby are extremely strong, as if a powerful force is gathering." Lao Chen took out a few talismans, ready to respond to possible dangers at any time: "Listening to this sound, it feels like countless wronged souls are crying." Professor Li said while observing the surrounding environment: "This wailing sound seems to come from underground. Perhaps something is sealed down there."
Following the sound, everyone cautiously walked towards the basement. A pungent odor filled the air, like a toxin left over from past experiments. At the far end of the basement, they discovered a large circular pattern, engraved with strange runes. The runes flickered with a faint red light, as if telling of the sins of the past.
Lin Yu looked at the pattern and had an ominous premonition. "This pattern looks like some kind of barrier. Could it be something the devil set up back then to seal something?" Professor Li squatted down and studied the runes carefully. "These runes do look like a sealing barrier, but strangely, the seal seems to be gradually losing its effectiveness, which is why the wailing sound is heard. Perhaps it's because too much time has passed, or perhaps something happened recently that triggered the barrier."
At that moment, the barrier suddenly emitted a strong red light, and within it, distorted figures appeared faintly. These figures struggled in agony, emitting miserable cries. Xiao Zhao shouted, "Captain, what are these things?" Lin Yu clenched his weapon. "Whatever they are, we cannot retreat. It seems these figures are the wronged souls sealed within the barrier. We must find a way to appease them and re-strengthen the barrier."
