Chapter 378: Exploring the Mystery of the Wild Man in Shennongjia

749 Bureau: Exploring the Wild Man of Shennongjia

After Lin Yu and his team successfully resolved the mental hospital's barrier incident, they barely had time to rest before a new mystery unfolded at Bureau 749. Recent reports of sightings of wild men in the Shennongjia region had stirred ripples within the bureau, like a pebble dropped into a calm lake. Local residents swore by sightings of tall, hairy creatures stalking the mountains and forests. Some even produced grainy footage, but the hazy, yet inscrutable outlines of the creatures evoked a compelling narrative. These reports alerted Bureau 749, and the director, acutely aware of the possibility of paranormal connections, immediately ordered Lin Yu and his team to Shennongjia for an in-depth investigation.

Lin Yu, Lao Chen, Professor Li, and Xiao Zhao quickly packed their gear and set off for Shennongjia. As they entered this mysterious forest, it felt like stepping into a world forgotten by time, a pristine and profound atmosphere instantly enveloping them. Tall trees blocked out the sun, and the sun, like a playful elf, could only filter through the layers of branches, casting scattered specks of light on the ground, painting a dappled landscape and making the forest interior appear particularly dim. A damp mist filled the air, gently enveloping everything like a veil, mingling with the rich fragrance of plants and trees. Yet, within this freshness, a subtle, inexplicable aura of mystery permeated, hinting that this forest concealed a hidden secret.

Lin Yu looked at the deep forest and thought to himself: "Shennongjia has always been full of mystery, with countless legends and mysteries intertwined here. I wonder what kind of surprises and dangers are hidden in this wild man incident. This may be an opportunity for us to uncover another supernatural mystery, but the process must be difficult." Lao Chen also looked around, his expression serious as if covered by a layer of frost. He frowned slightly and said: "The environment here is as complicated as a maze, with rugged terrain and dense vegetation. If the wild men are really hiding in it, trying to find their traces is like looking for a needle in a haystack, and you may encounter other unknown dangers. But since we are here, we must explore it anyway. The truth is out." Professor Li observed the surrounding vegetation with great interest, musing, "From an ecological perspective, Shennongjia has the right conditions for the survival of large, mysterious creatures. The vast forests provide abundant food resources, and the complex terrain creates an ideal hiding place for them. But until now, there's been no definitive evidence proving the existence of wild men. This time, we must use our expertise and perseverance to get to the bottom of it." Xiao Zhao excitedly gripped his custom-made camera, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. He couldn't wait to say, "Maybe this time we can uncover the mystery of the wild men and make a major discovery! That would be a world sensation! It's exciting just to think about it."

They first came to the area where local villagers claimed to have seen wild men many times. There were some strange scratches on the trees here. The scratches were deep and long, as if they were cut by some huge and sharp object, not like those caused by ordinary animals. Lao Chen squatted down and carefully examined the marks on the ground like an experienced hunter, his eyes focused as if locking onto prey. He said slowly: "These footprints are also very strange. They are much larger than human footprints, and the shape and support points of the footprints show that the way this creature walks is different from that of humans and known primates. Judging from the depth and stride of the footprints, it is huge and agile." Professor Li took out a magnifying glass and carefully observed the remaining hair on the trees like a rigorous scholar. His eyes were full of professionalism and concentration. After a moment, he said: "These hairs are coarse and long. Judging from the texture and color, they don't look like the hair of ordinary animals. Perhaps this is one of the key clues to solving the mystery of the wild men."

As they deepened into the forest, the sky gradually darkened, as if a black curtain were slowly descending, shrouding the landscape. Strange noises began to echo from the forest: the ghostly cries of night owls, piercing the stillness and chilling the air; the deep growls of unknown animals, like warnings from the depths of darkness. Lin Yu warned everyone, "Everyone, be vigilant! At night, in this unfamiliar forest, anything can happen. Darkness is a hotbed of mystery and danger. We must not let our guard down." Suddenly, the sound of branches snapping came from not far away. The "crack" was particularly piercing in the stillness, a signal that the stillness would be broken. Everyone tensed, their nerves tense, and they quickly took defensive positions. Xiao Zhao whispered, his voice trembling with nervousness, "Could it be a wild man?" Lin Yu motioned for silence. His eyes, sharp as a cheetah's, he slowly approached the source of the sound, taking every step cautiously, fearing to alert the unknown being lurking in the darkness.

In an open area, they saw a tall figure flash by the edge of the woods in the moonlight. Although it was only a brief moment, everyone could clearly see that the figure was covered in hair, had a sturdy body, and moved as nimbly as a ghost. It was definitely not an ordinary animal. Lin Yu whispered, his voice soft but firm: "Follow, but don't alert the snake. We don't know its habits and intentions yet, and rashly alarming it could be dangerous." They followed the figure carefully, like hunters stalking their prey, their steps light and cautious. Passing through a dense bush, branches occasionally scratched their skin, causing a slight sting, but they were unaware, their attention completely focused on the figure in front of them. Finally, they arrived at a hidden valley.
