Chapter 382: The Drowning Mystery (Part 1)

749 Bureau: Drowning Mystery (Part 1)

After surviving the numerous dangers of the mysterious cave, Lin Yu and his companions returned to the 749th Bureau base with a mixture of exhaustion and triumph. However, the intense and hectic pace of the bureau, like a perpetual machine, quickly dragged them into a new mystery. A bizarre case report from a certain city, like a boulder dropped into a calm lake, sent ripples through the 749th Bureau.

Lin Yu sat in the dimly lit conference room. On the table before him lay the heavy case file. His brow furrowed, his eyes fixed on the text, as if trying to glean the hidden truth from the densely packed characters. "A middle-aged man was found dead in his living room. It's been confirmed as the primary scene of death, and the cause of death was drowning," he muttered, his mind swirling with doubts. "How could someone drown in the living room? There's no apparent source of water. How did this happen?" Old Chen sat beside him, his arms folded, his face furrowed with a solemn expression. "There's something sinister about this. Drowning in the absence of water—what else could it be but the work of supernatural forces?" His voice was low and tinged with worry. Professor Li, sitting across from him, adjusted his thick, black-rimmed glasses, his eyes gleaming with thought. "Based on the limited information we have, conventional explanations are difficult to come by. We must go to the scene. Perhaps some overlooked clues will hold the key to solving this mystery." Xiao Zhao sat nearby, leaning forward slightly, his face filled with excitement and anticipation. "Whatever supernatural phenomenon this is, as long as we get there, we'll definitely get to the bottom of it!"

Lin Yu led his team to the crime scene at a rapid pace. It was a residential building in an ordinary neighborhood. The surroundings appeared normal, with traffic and pedestrians bustling along the streets, seemingly as peaceful as ever. However, as they entered the room where the murder occurred, a chill washed over them, as if they had entered a cold, isolated world. The living room was perfectly ordinary: the sofa, coffee table, and television were all neatly arranged, with no trace of a struggle, as if time had suddenly stood still. Yet, within this seemingly ordinary scene, an indescribable, eerie aura permeated, leaving one feeling uneasy.

Lin Yu slowly walked into the living room, his eyes scanning every corner, trying to catch a glimpse of something unusual. "Everything seems normal here, but the deceased drowned here. It's truly incredible," he muttered to himself, his voice unconsciously lowered, as if afraid to disturb something hidden in the shadows. Old Chen squatted down and began to carefully examine the floor, his fingers gently sliding across the floorboards, feeling every grain. "Strange! The floor is dry, not a single water stain, as if it's never been flooded. Could the water that caused the deceased to drown just vanish into thin air?" Old Chen asked, looking up, his eyes filled with confusion. Professor Li paced the living room, his gaze lingering on the walls and windows, carefully examining every detail. "The windows are tightly closed, showing no signs of damage, and there's no sign of water seepage in the walls. How on earth could the murderer have created a drowning environment in this enclosed space?" He muttered to himself, his brow furrowing even more.

Xiao Zhao was talking to the local police in charge of the case. "Have you conducted a detailed investigation into the identity and interpersonal relationships of the deceased? Maybe we can find some clues from it." Xiao Zhao asked. The police sighed and shook his head helplessly. "The deceased was an ordinary company employee. He was honest and decent. He had no enemies and hadn't encountered anything special recently. We investigated around, but we really can't think of who would do this to him." After hearing this, Xiao Zhao frowned slightly, and the doubts in his heart became stronger. "It seems that this case is even more confusing. There is no motive, and the method of committing the crime is so weird. What secrets are hidden behind this?"

At this moment, Lin Yu's eyes were drawn to a corner of the living room. There, a strange symbol was engraved on the floor. The lines of the symbol were twisted and complex, like some kind of ancient mysterious text, or like an evil totem. Lin Yu's heart moved. He felt that this symbol seemed familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen it. He immediately called Professor Li. The moment Professor Li saw the symbol, his face changed slightly, and a hint of surprise and solemnity flashed in his eyes. "I seem to have seen this symbol in an ancient mystical book. It is said that it is related to the evil magic of controlling the water element. Could this case really be related to supernatural powers?" Professor Li said slowly, with a hint of worry in his voice.

After hearing this, Lin Yu's heart tightened, and an ominous premonition came to his mind. "If it is really as you said, then we may be facing a murderer who is proficient in evil magic, and his purpose is still unclear. We have to speed up the investigation, find more clues, and figure out what he wants to do." So, everyone began to conduct a carpet search in the living room, leaving no corner untouched. Finally, in the gap of the sofa, Lin Yu found a strange hair. The hair was light blue in color, soft yet tough in texture, and shone with a strange luster under the light, unlike human hair. Lin Yu carefully put the hair into the evidence bag, handed it to Professor Li, and said seriously: "Professor Li, take a look at this hair. With your professional knowledge, can you tell where it comes from?"

Professor Li took the hair, pulled a delicate magnifying glass from his pocket, and began to examine it carefully. His eyes were focused and sharp, not missing a single subtle feature on the hair. As he observed more deeply, his expression grew more solemn, his brows furrowed so tightly that they were practically pressed together. "The structure of this hair is very unique, unlike the hair of any known creature on Earth. Judging from its texture, color, and microscopic structure, it is very likely from a supernatural creature. This case is far more complicated than we initially imagined, and the forces behind it may be extremely powerful and dangerous." Professor Li spoke slowly, his tone heavy.
