749 Bureau: The Mystery of the Mummy in the Unfinished Building (Part 2)
In the basement, the flickering lights shone like the throes of a dying person, emitting an unstable, dim glow that distorted and stretched everyone's figures against the walls. A chilling wind, like the wrath of vengeful spirits from hell, howled through every corner of the basement, carrying a chilling chill that seemed to penetrate everyone's bones. Then, from the dark corners, a faint cry rang out. The cry was low and miserable, like the endless agony of a wronged soul buried deep underground. It echoed in the silent, enclosed basement, straining everyone's nerves to the breaking point.
Xiao Zhao felt as if an invisible hand were gripping his heart. His face paled with nervousness, and his hands unconsciously clenched around his weapons, his knuckles turning white from the strain. He fought back his fear, lowering his voice and saying, "What...what's that sound? Is it really haunted? It feels so scary." His voice trembled slightly, standing out in the silent basement. Even he could hear the barely concealed fear in it.
Although a chill welled up inside Lin Yu, as captain, he knew he had to remain calm and instill confidence and strength in his teammates. He declared, "Don't frighten yourself! We're members of Bureau 749, specializing in supernatural incidents. No matter what we encounter, we must investigate thoroughly. Times like these require even greater composure. We're tasked with uncovering the truth, and we can't afford to be intimidated by such fear." As Lin Yu spoke, he quickly scanned his surroundings, trying to detect any sign of anomaly in the darkness. His gaze was firm and sharp, gleaming in the dim light. Though wary of unknown dangers, years of experience had conditioned him to remain calm in the face of danger.
Old Chen's brow furrowed tightly, a frown so tight it could pinch a fly, his eyes revealing a wary and determined look. He clutched the talisman he carried with him, a lifeline in his hand, and whispered, "This sound is not a good one. Everyone, be careful. Based on past experience, this situation is likely the work of some supernatural force. These paranormal phenomena often harbor complex causes and powerful forces. We must proceed with caution." Old Chen's voice was low and steady, and he tried not to sound nervous. He quickly recalled his past experiences dealing with similar paranormal incidents and considered possible responses.
Professor Li pushed his glasses up, his eyes gleaming with thought. Amidst the tense atmosphere, he struggled to remain calm, trying to discern some clue from the eerie atmosphere to unravel the mystery. He said, "The crying sounds like it carries some emotion, like pain, resentment, or perhaps a plea for help. Let's follow the direction of the sound, and perhaps we'll find a crucial clue. Perhaps the source of this crying is the key to solving the entire case. We can't miss any possible clues." As Professor Li spoke, he listened carefully to the direction of the crying and observed subtle changes in the surrounding environment, trying to find clues related to the crying.
They walked cautiously in the direction of the crying, each step taken with extreme caution, as if the slightest misstep would trigger the danger lurking in the darkness. The ground was covered with dust and debris, and every step raised a cloud of dust, creating blurry shadows in the dim light. The water stains on the wall, reflected in the light, looked like distorted human faces, staring coldly at them. The air around them seemed to freeze, oppressive and suffocating.
As they drew closer, the cries grew clearer. The sound seemed to carry an invisible force, tugging at everyone's nerves, causing their hearts to race. Xiao Zhao felt his own heartbeat, resounding even louder in the silence, as if it threatened to burst through his chest. He mentally encouraged himself, "Don't be afraid. With everyone here, we can definitely solve this problem." However, fear crept through him like a vine.
At the end of the basement, they found a tightly closed door. The crying sound came from behind the door. The door looked very old, covered with dust and cobwebs, as if it had been sealed for a long time. The surface of the door was bumpy, as if it had been touched by the hands of countless years, and as if it had been hit by some powerful force. Lao Chen tried to push the door, but the door did not move at all, as if it was sealed by a powerful force. He pushed hard a few times, and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, but he still could not shake the door at all. "This door seems to be locked by something, and the force is not small." Lao Chen said, with a hint of helplessness and confusion in his tone.
Professor Li leaned in to examine the door carefully and discovered some strange symbols engraved on it. These symbols had twisted lines and strange shapes, exuding a mysterious and sinister aura. An idea struck him, and he said, "These symbols look somewhat similar to those we've encountered in other supernatural cases. Perhaps there's some connection between them. Perhaps unlocking the secrets of these symbols will unlock this door and reveal the truth behind it. These symbols could be an ancient code or spell. Only by deciphering them can we move forward." As Professor Li spoke, he pulled some tools from his backpack, ready to carefully examine the symbols.
After thinking for a moment, Lin Yu said decisively: "No matter whether there is a connection or not, we must open this door and see what is hidden behind it. Professor Li, you try to crack these symbols to see if you can open the door. We will be on guard nearby in case of any emergencies. Everyone stay vigilant and be ready to deal with any danger at any time." Lin Yu looked at Professor Li firmly, and at the same time turned his head to glance at his teammates to make sure everyone was prepared to deal with danger.
