The Mystery of Peng Jiamu's Disappearance in Lop Nur (Part 1)
In the brightly lit yet mysterious conference room of Bureau 749, Lin Yu, Old Chen, Professor Li, and Xiao Zhao, fresh from a difficult mission, wore a hint of fatigue on their faces, but their spirits were instantly lifted by the arrival of the Bureau Director. The Bureau Director's steps were steady yet hurried, his expression as solemn as the gloomy sky before a storm, the heavy file bag in his hands seeming to bear a heavy burden.
The director slammed the file bag down on the conference table, a dull thud breaking the brief silence. "This time, we're dealing with a mystery that has baffled the world for years—the disappearance of Peng Jiamu in Lop Nur," the director began slowly, his voice deep and powerful, each word bearing the weight of time and the weight of the mystery. "For years, there have been various speculations and rumors about Peng Jiamu's disappearance, including some involving the supernatural. Recently, our 749th Bureau has received some unique leads suggesting the possibility of supernatural interference in this disappearance."
Lin Yu's brow furrowed, a solemn expression flickering across his deep eyes. The name of Peng Jiamu's disappearance was a household name, its complexity and sensitivity self-evident. He knew full well that this would be an unprecedented challenge. "Director, the harsh environment of Lop Nur, coupled with the long history of this case, makes the investigation extremely difficult. But we at Bureau 749 have an obligation to do our utmost to carry it out." Lin Yu's voice was firm and powerful, resonating through the conference room like a bell, demonstrating his resolve.
Old Chen scratched his head, frowned into the shape of a "川" character, and a trace of worry appeared on his face: "This matter sounds tricky. There has been no conclusion for so many years. Now we are re-investigating it, and I don't know what we will encounter. Lop Nur is a place that is not a joke. It is deserted and full of dangers." There was a hint of helplessness in Old Chen's words, but his years of experience also made him prepared to deal with the unknown.
Professor Li pushed up the thick black-framed glasses on his nose, his eyes flashing with wisdom and thought behind the lenses: "Judging from the existing clues, we need to start with the scientific expedition data of that year, the special geographical environment of Lop Nur, and those supernatural rumors, maybe we can find a breakthrough. The key may be hidden in those seemingly disorganized clues. We have to piece them together one by one like a puzzle." Professor Li's voice was steady and calm, with the rigor and rationality unique to scholars.
Xiao Zhao was ready to try, his eyes revealing an excitement of eagerness to try: "No matter how difficult it is, we must solve this mystery and give the world an explanation. Maybe there is some shocking secret hidden behind it, it's exciting to think about it." Xiao Zhao was young and energetic, full of enthusiasm and anticipation for unknown challenges, and was not intimidated by difficulties at all.
Afterward, everyone began to carefully study the archival materials. The yellowed papers exuded an air of antiquity, as if telling of a long-forgotten history. Lin Yu, examining the documents recording the expedition's itinerary, Peng Jiamu's life, and the details surrounding his disappearance, couldn't help but wonder: "Peng Jiamu, searching for water and rare resources, resolutely ventured deep into Lop Nur. Why did he suddenly disappear? Are those rumors about the Pisces jade pendant and time travel true? What secrets lie behind this? Is it a human conspiracy, or is it the work of supernatural forces?" Countless questions swirled in his mind, a tangled mess that was difficult to untangle.
As Old Chen flipped through the materials, he muttered to himself, "Although there is a lot of information here, most of it was investigated back then, and there's no new breakthrough. It seems we have to go to Lop Nur for a field investigation this time. Maybe we can find some missed clues." A trace of worry appeared on Old Chen's face. He was well aware of the dangers of field investigations, but he also understood that this was the only way to solve the mystery.
Professor Li looked intently at the description of Lop Nur's geographical environment in the materials, muttering to himself: "Lop Nur, a place known as the 'Sea of Death', has a unique geographical structure and a mysterious magnetic field. Perhaps these special factors are inextricably linked to Peng Jiamu's disappearance." Professor Li's eyes revealed a hint of excitement, and he was eager to solve this mystery that intertwined science and the supernatural.
Xiao Zhao looked at the photo of Peng Jiamu in the file and felt a surge of admiration in his heart: "Mr. Peng Jiamu did not hesitate to take risks and go deep into danger for the sake of science. We must find out the truth about his disappearance and cannot let him disappear in such an unclear way." Xiao Zhao's eyes were firm, as if he had already seen the moment when the mystery was solved.
After some discussion, they decided to go to Lop Nur for an on-site investigation and search for clues at the crime scene. After packing their equipment, the group set off for Lop Nur.
When they arrived at Lop Nur, the sight before them horrified them. The vast expanse of desert, scorched by the scorching sun, resembled a golden ocean. Waves of sand rolled, and the scorching air distorted the light, making it feel as if one was transported to a fantasy world. A howling wind swept through, emitting a sound like the howling of ghosts and wolves. Yellow sand flew through the air like countless tiny hidden weapons, striking the face with such pain that it was almost impossible to open one's eyes.
Looking at this mysterious and dangerous desert, Lin Yu felt a strong sense of mission in his heart: "What secrets are hidden here? What exactly happened to Peng Jiamu? We must get to the bottom of it. Even if there are many difficulties ahead, I will never back down." Lin Yu's eyes looked firmly into the distance, as if he wanted to penetrate the desert and find the truth hidden deep inside.
Old Chen looked at the desolate scene around him and couldn't help but shudder: "This place looks eerie and scary. It feels like something is staring at us in the dark. Everyone be careful and don't take it lightly." Old Chen's eyes scanned the surroundings vigilantly. Years of experience gave him a keen intuition about danger.
