Chapter 393: The Strange Situation at Ailao Mountain (Part 1)

Suddenly, a miserable cry reached his ears. The sound was sharp and sad, as if the wronged soul that had been imprisoned for a thousand years was crying out endless pain. Lin Yu woke up instantly, his heart beating violently in his chest. He sat up vigilantly, his ears trying to catch the source of the sound. The crying continued, and it was particularly clear in the silent night, as if it was just outside the tent. Lin Yu gently woke up Lao Chen next to him, his voice so low that it was almost inaudible: "Lao Chen, listen, there is crying." There was a hint of nervousness in Lin Yu's voice. He knew that this crying was not ordinary and might be the first step for them to step into the mysterious incident of Ailao Mountain.

Old Chen woke up instantly. He instinctively grasped the weapon in his hand, looked outside the tent vigilantly, and said in a low voice: "This crying sound is wrong. Could it be the weird crying sound that the villagers talked about? It sounds creepy." A chill surged in Old Chen's heart. Years of experience made him full of vigilance against such weird sounds.

The two men walked out of the tent cautiously and found that Professor Li and Xiao Zhao were also awakened by the crying. They were standing outside the tent looking around, with fear and confusion on their faces.

"Where is this crying coming from?" Xiao Zhao asked nervously, his voice trembling slightly, making it particularly piercing in the quiet night. His eyes searched for the source of the crying in the darkness, his heart pounding as it felt like it was about to burst out of his throat.

Professor Li frowned, pricked up his ears and listened carefully, trying to identify the direction of the sound: "It sounds like it comes from the mountain. Let's go up and take a look, but we must be extremely careful. This crying sound may be a signal of some kind of danger." Although Professor Li was also filled with fear, his strong curiosity and persistence in seeking the truth made him decide to take the risk and explore.

The four of them cautiously made their way up the mountain, following the direction of the weeping. The path was narrow and rugged, and all around them was pitch black. Only the occasional moonlight filtered through the leaves, casting patches of light and shadow on the ground, like ghostly figures swaying in the darkness. The weeping grew clearer and clearer, each sound like a sharp knife, slicing at their nerves and causing their hearts to beat faster.

On a clear, open field, they spotted a figure. The figure had its back to them, clad in a tattered white robe that rustled in the wind. Its hair, flowing like a black waterfall, covered its face. From this figure came the sobbing, a voice filled with pain and despair that stirred pity, yet the situation at hand also filled one with immense fear.

Lin Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, then shouted, "Who are you? Why are you crying here?" Lin Yu's voice echoed in the silent forest, but was instantly drowned out by the crying. He stared at the figure, his hand unconsciously clenched his weapon, and his heart was filled with vigilance.

The figure slowly turned, revealing a face as pale as paper, devoid of any color. Its eyes were hollow, like two deep black holes, devoid of any life. Its lips were purplish blue, trembling slightly, and its voice rasped, "Leave here... Leave... Or you will all die..." The voice seemed to come from the Netherworld, carrying an endless chill that froze everyone's blood.

Lao Chen gripped his weapon tightly and tried to make his voice sound calmer: "Are you a human or a ghost? What is your relationship with those missing people?" Lao Chen stared at the figure, his heart full of doubts and fear. He knew very well that the "thing" in front of him was definitely not a good person.

The woman did not answer, but continued to repeat: "Leave... leave..." Her voice became lower and lower, as if it was about to disappear.

Suddenly, a gust of wind swept through, its sound as piercing as the howling of ghosts and wolves. The wind whipped up dust and fallen leaves from the ground, forming a vast vortex. The woman's figure gradually faded in the wind, like an illusory bubble, leaving only her miserable cries echoing in the air. Everyone looked at each other, filled with confusion and fear. The scene just now was as real as a nightmare, yet so bizarre that they were momentarily at a loss.

After pondering for a moment, Lin Yu said, "This woman must be related to the strange events in the mountains. We can't retreat. Continue to go up the mountain and get to the bottom of it. Even if there are dangerous places ahead, we must uncover the truth behind it." Lin Yu's eyes were firm. As the captain, he knew that he had a heavy responsibility and could not give up the investigation because of a little fear.

However, they don't know that as they go deeper into the Ailao Mountains, more strange and terrifying things are waiting for them. Every step forward seems to be approaching a huge abyss full of terror and unknown. They can only bite the bullet and move forward to uncover the truth behind the layers of fog...

They continued to move up the mountain, and the fog around them became thicker and thicker, like a thick white curtain that enveloped the entire world. The fog was filled with a damp and decaying smell that made people want to vomit. The vision became extremely blurred, and they could only see a few meters ahead. Some strange lights and shadows appeared faintly in the fog, sometimes flickering, sometimes disappearing, as if ghosts were wandering in the darkness, or as if some mysterious power was warning them. Xiao Zhao approached Lin Yu nervously and said in a trembling voice: "Captain, these lights and shadows look so strange, are they some kind of trap? I always feel that something bad is going to happen." Xiao Zhao's eyes were full of fear, and he held on to the corner of Lin Yu's clothes tightly, as if this would give him a sense of security.

Lin Yu also felt a tinge of unease. He could sense the atmosphere around him growing increasingly oppressive, as if a pair of eyes were watching them through the mist. But he forced himself to remain calm and said, "Everyone, stay alert. Don't rush in. Professor Li, what are your thoughts on these lights and shadows?" Lin Yu knew that in such a situation, remaining calm and rational was paramount; he couldn't lose his composure.
