749: The Mystery of Ailao Mountain (Part 2)
The statue trembled violently, its rocks falling like raindrops, stirring up a cloud of choking dust. The air around them seemed to be stirred fiercely by an invisible giant, becoming hot and oppressive. Every breath felt like swallowing scalding lead, excruciatingly uncomfortable. Lin Yu's heart rang with alarm, and he shouted, "No! Everyone, retreat!" However, at that moment, the temple door slammed shut automatically. The sound echoed throughout the small temple like a death knell, and a bone-chilling force instantly trapped everyone inside.
A wave of fear surged through Old Chen, but years of experience quickly calmed him. His hand reached into his pocket like lightning, pulling out several talismans. The talismans flickered faintly in his trembling hands, as if sensing the tense and terrifying atmosphere. He rapidly formed hand seals while chanting, his voice low but resolute: "Righteous energy of heaven and earth, obey my command!" The talismans instantly ignited in mid-air, transforming into golden flames that swooped down towards the statue like a ferocious serpent. However, just as the flames were about to touch the statue, an invisible force, like an indestructible wall, deflected them. The flames twisted and dissipated in the air, leaving only wisps of smoke, as if signaling the failure of the attack. "There's something strange about this statue. Ordinary talismans won't work against it!" Old Chen cried, beads of sweat forming on his forehead and trickling down his cheeks. Anxiety and doubt filled his heart. What kind of sinister force was supporting this statue?
Xiao Zhao gripped his weapon tightly, his knuckles turning white from the strain. His legs trembled slightly, his eyes filled with nervous determination. "What then? Are we trapped here?" Xiao Zhao's heart was filled with fear. He stared at the enclosed walls, feeling as if he were in a vast cage, and the statue was like a jailer controlling life and death.
Professor Li observed the statue's transformations, his mind racing with countermeasures. His eyes were fixed on the shimmering runes on the statue. They seemed alive, leaping and shifting as the statue trembled. He discovered that the flickering runes seemed to follow a complex pattern, like an ancient, mysterious code. "Lin Yu, the changes in the runes on this statue may be the key. I'll try to decipher them and see if I can find a way to crack it," Professor Li exclaimed, quickly pulling out various tools from his backpack: a magnifying glass, a small computer, and a notebook for recording runes. His hands trembled slightly, but his eyes were determined and focused. He knew that everyone's lives might depend on his ability to decipher the secret of the runes.
Lin Yu, along with Lao Chen and Xiao Zhao, watched the statue warily, ready to respond to any attack. The statue's arm slowly rose, its massive arm like a small mountain. The magical weapon in its hand glowed with an eerie light, like a sharp blade, slicing cold streaks through the dim temple. "Everyone, be careful! It's about to attack!" As Lin Yu finished speaking, several black beams of light shot out from the statue's magical weapon, shooting towards the crowd like sharp arrows. The rays of light sliced through the air with a sharp whistling sound, like the call of death.
Lin Yu and the others quickly dispersed, each seeking cover. Lin Yu dodged to the side and hid behind a stone pillar. A black beam of light grazed the stone pillar, instantly corroding it into several large holes, and stone powder drifted away like smoke. Xiao Zhao ran towards the corner of the temple, his heartbeat rapidly accelerating, feeling like it was about to jump out of his throat. While dodging the light, Lao Chen tried to use the talisman to attack the statue again, but the talisman was like a mantis trying to stop a chariot in the face of such a powerful force, and it was useless.
"This attack is too powerful. We can't just sit there and wait for death!" Old Chen shouted, his voice tinged with despair, but also with unyielding determination. He knew that if they didn't find a solution quickly, they would all perish here.
Xiao Zhao was extremely anxious and looked at Professor Li: "Professor Li, how are things going over there?" Xiao Zhao's eyes were full of anticipation. He hoped that Professor Li could find a solution as soon as possible and lead everyone out of danger.
Professor Li's forehead was covered in sweat, blurring his vision and forcing him to frequently wipe it away. He stared at the rune, muttering to himself, "Almost there! I've almost found the pattern. This rune seems to be an ancient seal, now triggered. We need to break it in a specific order. But this order..." Professor Li's voice was filled with anxiety. He knew that time was running out and every second depended on life and death.
At that moment, the statue attacked again, this time emitting more and more intense rays, like a vast black net, enveloping the crowd. The air within the temple seemed to be sucked dry by this dark force, making it difficult to breathe. Lin Yu and the others dodged throughout the temple, facing danger on every side. While dodging, Lin Yu accidentally bumped into the altar, sending the eerily glowing stones tumbling to the ground.
Suddenly, Professor Li's eyes lit up: "These stones! Their light is related to the flashing pattern of the runes. Lin Yu, quickly arrange the stones in the order in which the runes flash!" There was a hint of excitement and eagerness in Professor Li's voice, as if he saw a ray of light in the darkness.
Lin Yu reacted quickly, disregarding the danger, he dove through the cracks in the light. Black light brushed past him, bringing a chill. He had a single thought: to successfully place the stones and save everyone. He picked up the stones and placed them in front of the statue in the order Professor Li had specified. With each stone he placed, he felt a step closer to death, but also a step closer to hope.
