749 Bureau Zhangjiajie Giant Salamander Incident (Part 1)
In the brightly lit yet chilly conference room of Bureau 749, the atmosphere was as heavy as the dark clouds before a storm, weighing heavily on everyone's mind. A large electronic screen on the wall flickered with a cold light, displaying the mission's key information: the mysterious giant salamander that had appeared in Zhangjiajie.
Lin Yu stood there, his gaze fixed on the screen, his brows furrowed in a deep frown. This mission was far more bizarre than anything he had ever experienced. A giant salamander with a lifespan of 900 years and the ability to transform into a humanoid form not only challenged his common sense about biology but also gave him a premonition that this mission would be fraught with unknown dangers.
The director's face was serious, his eyes filled with deep worry. His gaze swept over Lin Yu and Ouyang Zhenghao one by one, as if to deeply imprint the heavy responsibility on their minds. "This mission is extremely special. This 900-year-old giant salamander has long surpassed our understanding of the limits of life and possesses the uncanny ability to transform into a human form. You must be extremely cautious and conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth."
Lin Yu nodded slightly, his eyes showing firmness and determination: "Please rest assured, Director, Ouyang Zhenghao and I will not fail in our mission. However, since this giant salamander can transform into a human form, it must be hiding very cleverly. We have to think carefully and make a comprehensive plan." He knew in his heart that the opponent he faced this time was no trivial matter, and every decision was related to the success or failure of the mission.
Ouyang Zhenghao crossed his arms across his chest, and the heroism and majesty of the leader of the Dongbei Wu family came over him: "Hmph, no matter how powerful it is, it will have to show its true form under my fists and feet." Although his tone was heroic, he knew in his heart that this was by no means an easy task, but the perseverance in his bones made him fearless.
The two soon embarked on their journey to Zhangjiajie. As the train sped along, the scenery outside the window flashed by like a slideshow, but Lin Yu and Ouyang Zhenghao had no time to admire it. Lin Yu stared at the blurry scene outside the window, his mind filled with speculation about the giant salamander. He thought to himself, "This giant salamander can live for 900 years and even transform. Perhaps it hides some mysterious and powerful force. Once we arrive, we must conduct a thorough investigation of the area where the giant salamander may be found. We must not miss any clues."
Ouyang Zhenghao was rubbing his fist, eager to try: "No matter what kind of mysterious power it is, when I see it, I will give it a set of fierce Northeastern boxing to expose its true form." He seemed relaxed on the surface, but in fact he was constantly thinking about how to deal with it, knowing that he should not underestimate this mysterious opponent.
Upon arriving in Zhangjiajie, a thick fog, like a mysterious veil, enveloped this ancient and enigmatic land. Lin Yu and Ouyang Zhenghao immediately headed to the local authorities, hoping to gather more clues. They were greeted by an elderly expert with graying hair and a wise gaze. His office was filled with various animal and plant specimens and research materials, and the air was filled with the aroma of time-honored books.
The old expert said worriedly, "There have indeed been some unusual phenomena in this area recently. Many villagers claim to have seen a mysterious figure, often appearing in the mountains and streams. Whenever this figure appears, the surrounding atmosphere becomes gloomy and depressing. Moreover, every time he leaves, the nearby aquatic animals inexplicably decrease. Everyone suspects this is related to the legendary giant salamander."
Lin Yu and Ouyang Zhenghao exchanged a glance, and Lin Yu hurriedly asked, "Do you have any more specific clues, such as what this person looks like, or his exact pattern of whereabouts? Any details could be crucial to our investigation."
The old expert shook his head helplessly, a hint of helplessness and worry in his eyes. "All we see is a blurry figure. We only know it's a tall man, walking with a slight stumble, yet with an indescribable, eerie lightness. There's no regular pattern to its appearances either, sometimes appearing in broad daylight, other times in the pitch-black darkness."
After bidding farewell to the expert, Lin Yu and Ouyang Zhenghao decided to immediately conduct an on-site investigation of the forest and stream where the giant salamander might inhabit. The moment they entered the forest, a damp, rotting leafy scent hit them. The surroundings were eerily quiet, broken only by the occasional chirp of an unknown bird. Tall trees blocked out the sun, leaving only dappled light filtering through the layers of branches and leaves, as if countless eyes were watching them.
Lin Yu vigilantly observed everything around him. Every swaying leaf and every broken branch might hold a hidden message. He whispered to Ouyang Zhenghao, "This place feels eerie and strange. The giant salamander might be hiding in a corner, watching us. We must be careful and stay alert."
Ouyang Zhenghao followed Lin Yu closely, his eyes as sharp as an eagle scanning the surroundings: "Hmph, I want to see who this mysterious giant salamander is. If I meet it, I will let it know how powerful my Northeast Wu family is." Although he spoke tough, his palms were slightly sweating. After all, the fear of the unknown still made his heart stir.
Shortly after they entered the forest, they suddenly heard the sound of rushing water not far away, a sound that seemed particularly abrupt in the quiet forest. Their hearts tensed, and after exchanging a glance, they cautiously approached the source of the sound. Their footsteps were as light as ghosts, fearing to alert the mysterious being lurking in the shadows.
Pushing aside the dense, dew-soaked grass, they spotted a tall figure by the stream, its back to them. The figure stood over two meters tall, clad in a tattered black robe that fluttered gently in the wind, seemingly ready to rip. From behind, they could vaguely see his broad shoulders, slightly hunched, yet radiating an inexplicable sense of strength.
